Sorry to hear that, but it's not the case for everyone. I've been playing since CivII, and this is my favorite so far.

Sure, I miss some "missing" things but the new mechanics more than make up for what's lacking. I couldn't go back to CivIV at this point.

I love the new combat system and a few other things but I just do not like how they implemented. I have already gone into depth about what Im not digging. Im just gonna wait until they release a patch then ill prolly get back into it.

Don't worry, my laptop with an integrated Intel Chipset GPU can run this on low settings with some select settings up to medium, you should be fine. I'd download the demo to be sure, but I wouldn't worry too much.

So Right now I think I have a pretty good idea of what kind of layout I like for Each city as far as Farms, Mines, and Trading Posts go. My Country(france) has about 3 times as much money as any other civ, I have The culture, and I have a edge in Technology. Unfortunatly I have a non existent Military but I will just buy one if I have too, Im waiting until Gunpowder units to come up to beef up my Military. I am doing the small Continents map so I have a nice size area all to myself and I dont have to worry about being invaded.

            That's not good to hear.

After stumbling across Rise of Mankind some time ago, I might just stick to Civ IV until expansion packs and the new RoM arrives for Civ V.

No you always have the upgrade in production once the building is completed.

By adding a citizen to the building you make him a specialist. Just like in Civ 4 this specialist adds great person points according to the type of building and will also add either 1 culture per turn(Artist), 1 hammer(engineer), 1 Beaker(scientist), or 1 Gold(merchant) per turn to that city.

Using specialists with certain social policies will be just like using them in 4 with certain civics to get you the boost in the specific area of victory you are trying for.

Thanks for the tip, my next game I will have to use the social policies that reduce the food for specialists. I dont really use them, the only specialists I used in IV were the great people.

So last night I decided to make my Economic Powerhouse into a Military powerhouse so I decided to invade neighboring Persia. I gotta say, the way the AI builds improvements around cities is idiotic, they dont even bother to build farms.

Maybe it depends on how they are interacting with other civs and city states, I only have 4 complete games under my belt in 5 so I can't really comment on how good or bad the AI actually is yet when it comes to empire building but...

I started a game with Greece last night to really get into and understand the City States. When I quit last night it was around turn 100 or so and I had 5 cities with the smallest being around population 7 and the only tiles I built farms on were the ones with wheat as a resource and maybe one for each city near a river if applicable.

All my food to grow my cities are coming from Maritime City States that I allied with. When they become your ally they provide +4 food in your capital and +2 in your other cities. I have allied with 3 MAritime CS's so that adds up to +12 food in the capital and +6 food in other cities...when you have that who needs farms? Spam trading posts and mines for gold and production.

I tried some other neat tactics like not adopting a social policy till I unlocked the Patronage tree and spent all my culture points there to get more benefits from the City States like having them give me 33% of their beaker income per turn. I also did some early trading that just snowballs on itself when the city states become involved to get lots of gold.

Once I can build the trading post I don't build farms, either, unless it's a food resource tile like wheat. Money and production are more valuable later in the game, IMO.

I have played 3 games so far and in every game my Economy just tanks when I hit the Modern age. I dont know if this is a problem for everyone but it just kills the game the game for me. I only make about 55 gold per turn when I was making 200+ per turn a few turns earlier.

                        Re: Civilization V

Managing the economy is definitely more tricky in this game than those previous. You can't just throw every available building in every city or you'll be broke fast, and military definitely takes more planning between the financial drain and the new resource system.

Although i have only played for a few hours I think this game is pretty awesome. Civ 4 was a very complicated game. Im absolutely loving the new interface in Civ 5. soo damn clean and beautifully designed. Major props.

What early trading did you do? I need as much help as i can get.
I became an ally of a Militiristic city-state, but they would only give me a military unit every 20 turns. not very helpful really.

I played on prince for this game so not sure how this will work on harder difficulties because you start with less happy faces due to the difficulty but here is what I did:

It appears that you always start with at least one and usually two luxury resources within a few tiles of your capital. So for this game I had two sugars so I bee-lined my tech to calender from turn 1 so I could build plantations ASAP. Since you get 9 free happy faces on prince you really don't need to have that luxury resource early to keep your civ happy. As soon as I had it hooked up I traded one away to the Romans for all the gold they had on them which was about 200 or so. I traded the other source to another civ which gave me over 500 gold with the gold I had been earning on my own too.

I then paid 500 gold to the nearest Maritime City State that had a luxury resource hooked up already. When they become your ally you then have access to their resources plus the way overpowered +4 food in your capital and +2 food in other cities. So then you can turn around and sell that resource to another civ that has the money. Rinse and repeat with other CSs that have other luxury resources that you lack. It seems as long as another civ has the money they will be willing to pay about 250-300 gold a pop or about 8-10 gold per turn for a luxury resource they lack.

If you can ally with multiple MAritime CSs that extra food allows you to forget farms and build trading posts in most tiles and be able to use as many city specialist as you can with out hurting the growth of your cities. The only problem with this is that if you don;t pay attention your cities go up in pop so fast you need to make sure you keep some of your resources for your own civ to be happy.

In this current game I am playing, my capital was a size 15 by 1000AD. I am making more than 100 gold due to all the trading posts and merchant specialists with only 3 cities. I am about to attack Japan and gain some more though
