So this pre-release thing. Does that mean that R* allowed people to download the game right now, so they could just immediately start playing at midnight or whatever on the day the game came out?

The hackers have managed to get some of the songs and find out the end of the games story. I don't think they have manged to hack it enough to play it.MLB: Chicago Cubs

It's not like he was implying that the game wasn't going to have plenty of sales.
Believe it or not, there are people who exist (really weird people) who don't really care about Sandbox games and Grand Theft Auto. Leaked information could sway some of them to purchase too.

Look, I'm not saying they need it to sell copies. I just think its more advertising to sell more copies. Hype pushes the system. There are people out there that aren't even thinking about GTA V right now.
If you want to believe the game will just sell alone without it, then why the screenshots? Why the trailers? Why the information? Why not just say: GTA V. Buy it. It's GTA, duh!"
I just personally believe R* does this every major release and then claims they need to protect their stuff, but always end up selling their units like hotcakes. I'm not suggesting the hacked leaks are responsible for selling millions of copies. I am suggesting they get the game into the minds of those that haven't pre ordered yet.
