I really hope they don't go back and "redo" a city. I don't see why they would redo San Andreas because it was so large anyway, plus with all the different businesses you could go in.

Seriously though, New Orleans is prime for a GTA location spoof.

Nothing will ever top San Andreas. That game was just insanely huge and it had everything imaginable!

The story and characters were rock solid as well.

You had LA, Vegas, San Fran, the country side, the desert, etc...

There were planes, jetpacks, parachutes, you name it.

I might be the only one who didn't like Vice City. Granted, I played them all on PC in the month prior to GTAIV's release. I loved San Andreas (and it was the first one I played), then GTA3 was still pretty great, but Vice City was a bit meh to me. Mind you, when I had an XBOX and was deathly jealous of PS2 gamers, I was certain Vice City would be the best. I'm an 80's guy.

Maybe I was burnt out by running through 3 & SA in such a short time period.

I see this thread has gotten bigger from the last time I read it and I thought we had some news regarding the next GTA.

Couldn't agree more Fresh. I mean they already "redid" one city. I guess It'd be cool to see Vice City or SA all done up in next gen graphics, but really at this point I really want to see what R* can do with a totally new city, new atmosphere etc.

Agree with both of you. I want a totally fresh new city / area and not a 'redo' of a previous one. I agree that New Orleans would be perfect and they have heaps of subject material to use.

I thought Vice City was the absolute worst and I didn't appreciate it the same way I appreciated the others. But it was still head and shoulders above any other game out there, so I quite loved it.

lol the worst in a series is still better than most games. Thats when you know its a successful series.

On the story front, I'm interested in something along the lines of normal person with dark family ties is thrust into the world he's been rejecting his whole life. Like the college grad who finally "made it" has his whole family killed, loses his job for some such reason.

Would make the whole tutorial part of the game more believable than having some experienced person like Niko who already knows how to fire a gun, jack a car, and so on.

And as a New Orleans native, a New Orleans based GTA would be sweet. We have a lot of elevated expressways which are just ripe for some grand set piece.

This is how I felt about Vice City. Great game, but worst one in the series that wasn't one of the "stories".

That's odd, most people regard Vice City as the absolute best. I've seen very few people ever call VC the worst.

                        My ranking is:

                        San Andreas
                        Vice City
                        III
                        GTA IV

I'm not sure how great New Orleans would be. French Quarter is just a collection of bars, downtown isn't that great, outside of the city is suburbs and swampland. New Orleans is a much better place to actually visit than to model a videogame after. They've covered Miami, LA/Southern California/Vegas, and New York City in their biggest games. Chicago would be different but it ultimately has the same ambiance as New York. I feel like I want a rehash like Vice City or San Andreas so they don't technically have to start from scratch and can put more effort into making a game that FEELS deep and doesn't just look deep. I feel like I want more minigames, more places to explore, more mission types, more things to do while you aren't on a mission. GTA IV after it's all said and done looked and played great but ultimately it was kinda shallow and I got bored with it faster than other GTA games. If they could combine the creativity/detail of Vice City with the expansiveness of San Andreas (LA, San Fran, and Vegas), that would be ideal.

When I googled "Grand Theft Auto 5", regarding the next location the city who's name I seen pop up the most was Hollywood. Not sure if that means anything but that's the only city I seen pop up in regards to the next GTA.

Hollywood? Barf. LA Noire is going to be using a similar location.

I would still like to see something in the San Diego area. It might be a bias thing, but it's just a great city. Not really known for crime stuff, but they can create a story out of it. Like I said, a Pride and Glory story would be cool. A multi-generational police family coupes an investigation where four cops in the precinct were killed in a drug bust, and we can play the Ed Norton type character who discovers more about internal police corruption and must stand up against it.

Most of the "sandbox" stuff has you running around undercover, that way you would still be chased by cops and crap.
