That is an excellent point. Especially now it is coming out how corrupt some of the police were in that time.

Wasn't that released in the late '90s? If so I think enough time has sufficiently passed that that is no longer a worry.

I doubt Rockstar would leave the USA. They are best at poking fun at American stereotypes. Thats one of the reasons GTA is such a good series whether you notice it or not. I'm going to say GTA V will either be in San Andreas or a whole new city.

They're supposedly researching a ton in the Hollywood area, but this may be for another gmae, who knows. I say this is where they'll go, but I'd like to see something like Mafia II in the 50's. The 70's would please me too.

I'm hoping they redo Vice City, I loved that game to death.

how could you hate Vice City? Miami in the 80s, what can be better then that?

Exactly. The whole GTA formula revolves around the concept of the American dream, plus a satirical take on US pop culture for personality.

I personally don't care if they just refresh Vice City or San Andreas, like they did Liberty City. GTA is a successful formula as is, and I doubt Rockstar would change it much. If they want to do different things, they'll just make new franchises like RDR and Agent.

There's also the thing about a complete lack of gun violence in Europe and a significantly smaller drug trade. Burglary and bar fights wouldn't quite have the appeal of GTA's gun battles. Tokyo (a city often thrown out) would be laughably lame. "For your final mission commit the ultimate real estate scam!"

Russia could be somewhat interesting, but a lot of the stuff would be crossing the line even for GTA. Funneling weapons and money to Islamic rebels in Chechnya and various other conflicts and participating in human trafficking would make their normal hype go from "lol prudes, it's just a game" to "Really Rockstar, is this really necessary?"

I think the best bet for non-US is basically what RDR did. Have something like LA, a combined southwestern city (something like Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, and Albuquerque), and Mexico City. Then again, a lot of storylines would be very similar to RDR.

I think the only non-American location that Rockstar could pull off and have a successful game would be Ireland. Create a hyperbolic-IRA terrorized Ireland and bam, that could be entertaining.

That may just be because I'm Irish.

I think i want to see vice city also. Vice city/mia has so much diversity. You have the slums, the high-end subdivisions, blacks, whites, hispanics, hatians, and many other ethnicitys. Also vice city was a fun city to drive around in. I know it was based on mia but they did such a good job on the city that it really gave you that feelin like it was really a mia setting.

I think the could go back to vice city and do a moden day drug story line. So much drugs still come in through the port of mia.

Also I understand gta4 was suppose to be about the american dream but it just didnt seem like niko was coming for that. All he wanted was revenage and wasnt to worried about making it in the country. His cousin Roman was more about the american dream

I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't mind going back there. Vice City Stories, however, was the worst game in the series imo. That game is what slightly makes me hope they stay away from Vice City.

They could do Tokyo right? Didn't they do it for one of the Midnight club series?

GTA Tokyo would be bar none the worst GTA game. Maybe even the most boring game of all time.

You know those suburban clowns that want to be gangsters? They're more dangerous than anyone in Japan.

The per capita murder rate of Japan is 1/100th that of Detroit with most of the murders coming from crazy people and not organized crime.

In 2007, the total number of firearm deaths from organized crime in the entire country was...

                                ...

                                12

Obviously that's a nice figure for the residents but for a game based on killing people it leaves much to be desired.
