Probably not, but it's still among my favorites because I was a kid when it came out and me and my friends at that time spent endless hours with it in the basement, fueled by soda and Ho-ho's.....that's what makes a game really memorable. And it can also make you feel old...

I think the fighting/shooting in GTA has always been clunky and not-particularly-enjoyable...you always feel like you're fighting the game rather than things coming naturally. I do remember the stealth/melee kill option in San Andreas, and there was something sorta like that in GTA4, it just didn't work that well. The cover mechanic in 4 was a step in the right direction, but again - it just feels very laborious to get into a fight/gun battle in the game. They seemed to get it right in Red Dead, though...

Really good question...and I don't have an answer. I just feel like the overall flow of the game, driving to a letter on the map, cut scene, drive to another part of the city, shoot-out or car chase, drive somewhere else, get a new set of missions, repeat....just seems very repetitive and old to me at this point. I know that others still love the formula, and it works when done well, but I just...I don't know. I guess I didn't know that GTAIII was exactly what I wanted when it first came out, but as it turns out, it was. I'm hoping Rockstar can re-invent the genre with their next game, I just don't have any idea how they would do that. In other words, I wouldn't be very helpful in a focus group...

Oddly enough, I absolutely loved Red Dead Redemption, even though it's basically the same game structure. I can't explain it; a mix of the scenery, themes, horses, etc...it just all worked perfectly for me. Heck, I even completed every last banal side activity just to 100% the game (probably the first time I ever 100%'d any game, let alone a Rockstar one). If GTA5 gives me anything close to the fun I had with Red Dead, I'll be happy.
You either have a problem with that entire game(San Andreas or just the few features I mentioned that you dislike so much). Which is it?

Yes I would love something new but, like you I have no idea really what they could add that would make the GTA formula feel to different from it's previous iterations. If they could pull it off then hats off to them but, I don't think there is to much that can be done...I mean it is a driving and shooting game, that is the core of it so there is only so much you can do. As much as I would like something new there are "certain" features I would like to have back, not a remake of San Andreas or anything like that.

Me personally, I feel they're going back to Vice City in V and not going back to SA or a "LA (Los Angeles) " west coast type city.

I loved RDR also offline better than GTA IV which is something I usually don't play a lot of period in any game after story mode beaten, I think it was something new to me but, I didn't dig the online of the game to much.

So just going off this last paragraph, you don't REALLY have a problem with the structure of the game (which I'm not even sure how they'd go about fundamentally changing it to please the people like you that want it changed -- BTW no offense meant by that, lol), you more so just weren't interested in the general story of GTA IV.

That's what I took from it because you said you liked RDR because of how that game played out, but it was still the same structure as every other GTA.

After just playing and finishing Saints Row for the first time, I really expect customization from this game....Row was the most fun ive had with a sandbox game....EVER.

        Hopefully this can follow suit....

Both good points...I realize I am contradicting myself, and by no means am I under the delusion that I'm making any kind of coherent argument here, just kind of shooting from the hip with whatever comes to mind...I guess BlueNGold is right in that I don't technically have a problem with the structure of the game per se since I loved Red Dead so much, it must just be the over-familiarity with the drivin'-n-shootin' formula of GTA. But, as SouthernBrick aptly notes, GTA is a drivin'-n-shootin' game, so what I'm expecting I have no idea.

I didn't have a problem with San Andreas - I loved the setting, music, and general look of the game, I think it was just that GTAIII-Vice City-San Andreas seemed to just come out in rapid succession (seemed like it, anyway) and by the 3rd go-around I was a bit GTA-'d out. I was definitely in GTA fatigue during IV. I guess the only real conclusion is that I'm weary of GTA in general....although that still won't stop me from getting V whenever it comes out.

Personally, outside of maybe apparel and weaponry, I'm not at all a fan of customization. I like a set character in a story, ie John Marston or Nathan Drake. I realize it sounds odd, but creating a character, especially one that looks like me, takes me OUT of the story. I don't play these games to be myself, lol, I like being entertained through a main protagonist, as if it were a movie.

Open ended gameplay that allows for some creativity? Sure, but like I'm said, I'm not a fan of creating my own character... Leave that to the devs so they can draw me into their world.

I like having a set character too, but I like it to be like how SA was where it was a set character, but you had options as to how he looked.

Maybe you didn't like IV because the side missions and extra things to do weren't as good as past GTAs.

IMO that was the weak spot of GTA IV. They did have the friend stuff, but I can agree that that felt more like a chore than anything. The 2 DLCs did a much better job of this, but I don't think even they were up to the level of Vice City or San Andreas when it came to side missions and that type of extra stuff.

Me too. I would like to have that feature strictly for online. I in no way shape or form would want to have to create a protagonist in GTA's story mode, I love their characters plus I just wouldn't want to do it for this game regardless. I would however like to be able to switch into your own customized character to just fool around offline as well but, not be able to play the story mode with a customized character. Although a option would not be bad for others but, I wouldn't blame the devs for not going that route and don't see them doing that at all.

We already have a customizable characters online they really REALLY need to add to it. Online is at the top of the list for me. I want hair cuts back, tattoos, etc. It just adds to the realism IMO and being able to express yourself threw how you look and not having the same look every time you jump in the game. If you wanna be a skinny 5'9(not sure they would add a lot of different heights, they should though) dork wielding a ak-47 or a fat bastard running down the street with a rocket launcher you should be able to.

I really hope V takes it to the next level in that aspect.

Edit: ^ BlueNGold that is my point exactly. I want that for online so F'n bad! I also agree with what you said about the side missions as well.

Another problem with characters that are too customizable is that their lines of dialog are awkward. No one can refer to them by anything but a surname or by their gender. I'd rather the San Andreas route. Give me a character with a fixed name and gender and just let me choose what clothes he wears, how his hair looks, his tats. All that.

I haven't heard anyone mention doing something in D.C. I think they could do some really cool story lines with the government.

There would definitely be some cool landmarks that are easily recognizable.

Perhaps build a story line where you are thwarting terrorists or something like that.

I doubt they ever leave the US again, and hope they don't. Rockstar likes to have the American satire, and thats what helps make their games so successful, that an the Rockstar logo on the case.
