If R* makes GTA V more like Red Dead Redemption rather than GTA IV I think this could be the best game on this gen. It has so much potential (but so did LA Niore, and that left a lot on the table. But then again that wasn't a R* game, it was a Team Bondi game produced by R*)

What do you think could be brought from RDR over to V? For me the thing I loved abour RDR was the setting. The main set of missions were pretty much standard for your R* game.

I think it will be better just because they can focus more storyline content within the game and not on making the first next gen city like they had to with IV. Can't believe it's already been 3.5 years since IV. Time flies.

        Re: Grand Theft Auto V

Honestly, a big thing that I think will help change the setting is the new onset of characters. In RDR, every conversation on the way to places was engaging. In GTA IV, it was always Roman and Niko exchanging dialogue about how the titties are in the new country, and living the life of freedom, etc. Niko's negativity really got to me, as well as his heavy accent.

Also, I would really like more of a "work your way up" kind of respect and honor system like RDR has. Not only that, but also being able to buy property/estate again, much like Vice City and San Andreas.

One final thing, I think countryside needs to be added again. Not that it needs to look like Hicktown USA, but I don't think it just needs to be cityscape. Have some wide open freeway areas, etc. Take GTA IV and as much city as it had, and separate them with countryside in between (if it's possible to have that much landscape). This will help push wanting planes in the game.

These things will really help it go a long way, IMO.

Does anybody remember the length of time between the reveal of IV and it's actual release? I'm assuming this will drop on current gen consoles? Surely it's not a launch title for the next Xbox...

It was a year I believe but not intentional. I want to say they had the trailer release in April and the game was supposed to come out in October, but then it quickly got pushed back to the following April.

I agree with your point and i'm really looking forward to playing as multiple characters too but I just want to say the way they set up Niko's story in GTAIV was very deliberate. It was supposed to be a darker more gritty take on the GTA experience.

I think GTAV will be more vibrant and have a lot more energy to it considering the setting of the game.

I could handle the dark and gritty stuff as long as it was fun, but some times it was a drag to drive around as Niko.

While I appreciated the change of character, I just got bored with Niko..

I never even finished the story.. I just got bored with the game.

I did beat both expansions (TBOGT & TLAD).

It's not revolutionary.. but how they portrayed the story lines and how each boss acts different makes it refreshing to keep going with the story.

In AC, I didn't know what to expect after I beat a mission.

In all the past GTA games, I knew 100% what was going to happen before it happened.

Honestly, R* doesn't put much thought into their games.

All they do is change the cities and main characters, but that's it. The biggest addition was online multi-player a few years back and I think it's the worst use of online capabilities in any game right now.

People complain how sports games year in and year out are the same game with updated rosters.. yet GTA gets a free pass.

Meh, I always thought this series was overrated. It got so many perfect scores, but I never felt compelled to finish it.

I thought Red Dead was more interesting, but I felt that was overrated as well.

Just Cause 2 was better than both imo.

Yeah I remember now. I was really disappointed with the delay. Hopefully they hit their target date this time around.

I still love GTA IV and think it was deserving of the praise it got.

I do think they were maybe a little too heavy on the physics and realism and not as heavy as they should have been on the fun from the past games.

I also think the biggest problem was the game was maybe a little too straight forward and wasn't that strong with the extra content like customizing Niko or the cars, being able to buy property, and all those types of things that San Andreas and Saints Row were/are good at. Money in GTA IV was just about useless, but judging from the GTA V logo that could be different.

I hope they stay with the realism, but bring back the fun. You can have both. I really prefer the realism in IV over the style over all the other GTA's, but prefer the fun and wackiness of San Andreas over the serious, dark tone of IV.

I agree on the realism, but on that same token I would like to see some weapon types revived. I wouldn't mind seeing a Katana or chainsaw again, to be honest. Of course, you wouldn't earn it right out the door either.
