Usually I stand by GI reviews, but this one is a nutty review. It amazes me how these games mentioned can steal ideas from each other, score 9-9.5 range and be praised like the second coming. IG fixes what was broken with R2 in R3, yet some continue to slam the work done with R3.......especially Morgan Webb of all. That is the problem with this generation of gaming, you can't try out any new ideas without getting slammed for them. So companies are copying each other in many ways, yet when its not COD, Halo, etc. they get a free pass.

We shall see later tonight when I give this a spin. The Capelli storyline is interesting, will miss Hale for sure.

I really shouldn't even care. R3 has got a lot of high praise and hopefully it lives up to most of it unlike R2, but it's just really irritating to read certain things in reviews.

Also, there are no words for that Morgan Webb comment.

This happens a lot and it's not limited to the shooter genre either, whether it's borrowing or hasn't changed much -- Hype? Publisher pressure? The amount of swag sent was insufficient? Wasn't a publisher review event where you're pampered or set up in some sweet resort?
It annoys me as well. I played the first two levels and what stands out is the experience. The story is compelling. It has a different feel to it then a lot of shooters I have played. It really is centered around a guy who tried to walk away and as the player I felt that emotion from him. Even when the character who sucks him into the main plot is introduced, he doesn't even want to deal with that person. Over @Joystiq the developers said they "With Resistance 3, "it was a lot more personal story," in part spawned by many of the team reading Cormac McCarthy's devestating novel The Road. "Marcus, the creative director, me, Grant, our art director, we all had kids towards the beginning of production," Miller said. "I think all of us were kind of like, 'What would it be like to have a kid in a world like this?' We're certainly not telling a Pulitzer Prize-winning story here, but I think we're telling a very different and more personal story than most games and certainly most shooters." (Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/in...-resistance-3/) so far, for me, they have achieved this. I like playing grand scale shooters, but it's nice to have a more personal experience.

The thing is that I actually enjoyed R2 despite all the changes they made from RFOM.

The Morgan Webb comment was all out strange and made no sense at all.

I made it to Chapter 7 last night before turning the console off.

A few times I got aggravated with the no health generation, but the good thing is that it brings back the element of strategy. You can't go running in as Rambo and then go hide for a few seconds to get your energy to refill.

Overall I am quite impressed how R3 has turned out from the gameplay mechanics by refining RFOM and bringing back the weapon wheel. I feel like we finally have a better variety of weapons to use as opposed to the last game.

Graphically, IG did a great job with the art style used here. While graphically Killzone 3 is much sharper, I think that this game is much better so far. IG finally has this series on the right track and much better than Killzone which the last installment felt like a disjointed mess from a SP storyline aspect. Now hopefully Guerrilla Games takes a lesson here from IG and Nauty Dog for the next KZ on making you feel drawn to the characters. The story so far has been very engaging and I am interested to see where this goes. I liked the little overview of the events from R1 and R2 for those new to the series. You really feel like your a part of this apocalyptic world from the ravaged environments to that distinct look of the cutscenes.

I was a bit leery about R3, but have been proven wrong.

Yeah, the art style fits this mood perfectly.

I am also loving the Multiplayer. Classic Hardcore playlist is a breath of fresh air. No perks, just your gun and your grenades. Reminds me a lot of Uncharted 2 MP was for me. Under the radar, balanced, and fun.

That's good to hear Deft. Haven't had much time for games this summer and didn't expect much for R3 since R2 was complete crap to me but all these reviews and the classic hardcore multiplayer has me definately wanting this game now.

Do they have the classic hardcore MP set up like R1 where you can create custom games with 1 hit kills where anybody can join in and you don't need invites? I spent countless playing the busyard with 1 hit kills using only the carbine and everybody played on an even keel. Alot of the same guys would usually play the busyard so you had at least a couple of guys you knew in there you could gab with and had the freedom to go in and out of the map whenever you want it and didn't have to worry about these stupid perks making it uneven.

Yes, I remember seeing the one hit kill option for custom matches. The only thing I wish they had were weapons at spawn points instead of loadouts. But it doesn't matter too much since everything seems balanced.

Played up to chapter 8 with a friend in co-op. So much fun and not a single bit of lag. We both have good Internet, but some other games would lag from time to time in co-op, not R3. I'm digging the intimate and human story approach, it's a complete departure from the previous games and no longer has that military vibe to it. I just love how dire, hopeless, and grim R3 is from the very start. The atmosphere is really top notch. The low resolution is noticeable and some textures can be ugly, but I think the trade-off was worth it after seeing the insane amount of particle/alpha effects and the lighting and shadowing is really impressive (no baking going here). Art direction is great and the environments don't look pieced together. Music and sound design I think are huge steps up. Pacing too: going from point A to B feels organic. Gunplay and weapon feedback is better. The Atomizer weapon is pretty awesome. Overall the campaign really feels like the best of R1 and R2, but more polished than either.

The secondary fire for the Atomizer is just awesome. Played through Chapter 8 and it just keeps getting better. This might be the most connected I have ever been to a lead charater in a shooter. They did a great job transitioning from Hale to Capelli as lead characters.

The transition from a military shooter with Hale to Capelli was very well done. I thought I was going to miss being Hale, but I haven't. I am on Normal and some of the firefights just seem to be getting tougher and tougher, especially in Chapter 8. From what I was reading, there are a total of 16 Chapters.......
