Red Dead Redemption - If I hadn't played Grand theft auto since playstation then I would have enjoyed this more. Only so many times you can play these games before they just get old.

I feel like I should've liked Dead Rising 2 more than I did. When you first start killing zombies it's pretty fun, then it gets monotonous. I ended up selling it before I even bothered beating it.

Mass Effect 2.

I hated it. It was so linear, and they dumbed down the game so much from a micro management standpoint it felt even more linear.

I loved the first one so much to have the 2nd be so shatty.

I would have to say the most overrated games I have played are both the Dead Rising games, ALL of the Assassins Creed series, Halo Reach, and Black Ops. They were all huge let downs when I played them.
Also Red Dead Redemption.

Halo 1 & 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Assassin's Creed 1 (the next 2 definitely redeemed the series though) are the first ones that come to mind.

My most overrated games this generation would have to be:
1. Fallout series: Always found them bland and boring.
2. Halo 3: Really wanted alot more out of it but it really disappointed me with the whole BR situation online and the really bland story line..Unlike the poster above I actually love Halo Reach.
3. MGS 4: Really, really fruity game with way many cutscenes. I mean I had to watch eggs being fried....Really????
4. Fable 3: After being really excited for the game for a while it just ended up being a disappointment to me. I mean I enjoyed it however the features they took out and some story decisions just made me angry.
5. MW 2: I actually really hated this game. Between Quick Scoping, Rock Glitching, Care Package glitching and the many other things wrong with the game along with the developers giving up on supporting it just killed it.

More to come as I remember...lol.

Not saying it isn't cool etc as I do play online... but give me a nice SP experience and I'm happy.

Halo: Reach was also another one that was a huge disappointment. The single player was okay, but the multiplayer maps were awful IMO. I just finally sold it off a month ago.

Definately Metal Gear Solid 4. I cannot fathom for the life of me figure out what is so good about this game.

The cutscenes, that move at a snail's pace, are like half the game (and not done very well, certainly not to the level of Uncharted) and whenever you finally get to the action the controls are clunky and the AI is decidedly average.

It was also the 1st time I had played the MGS series and I was shocked at how underwhelming it was in almost every way. It's a self indulgent mess of a game. I can't imagine how bored a person must be to play this one all the way thru. People say you have to play the 1st 3 to enjoy this one. Nothing could help me enjoy this one. If I wanted to watch a movie I would pop in a Bluray not suffer thru a cheezy video game movie. If the other 3 games were anything like this then I would rather burn ants with a magnifying glass. And I must not be the only one who feels this way because there were a gazillion used copies at Gamespot a month after it came out.

But you really do have to play the other games, that made MGS 4 that good. It brings the story along and brings back some characters. If you are just jumping into it without any knowledge of the prior games, then of course you aren't gonna like the game.

I wouldnt say that online is overrated....I would say that devs need to actually focus more on single player rather than multiplayer.

Alan Wake... meh. For the record Alan Wake did win a GOTY award and it did receive a ton of critical acclaim.

To all the people saying Mass Effect 2. I though the SAME exact thing until I replayed the game as a Vanguard. My original play through was a Soldier class and it was a total snoozefest. Replaying the game and using the combat system to queue up my attacks and biotic powers was a revelation and forever changed my perception of that game.
