Re: Far Cry 3
Here are some of my initial impressions about 3-4 hours of (PC) gameplay.
The intro is outstanding. It does a very nice job of giving you the quick tutorial bits and making you feel like a vunerable dude. You are weak and scared in the jungle. Thankfully you get some assistance along the way.
Random events have to be my favorite thing about the game. At the beginning you own very few outposts and there is heavy enemy traffic. I took out a jeep of enemies and was off to the side. Shortly after a boat full of enemies was scouting what was happening. This wasn't a mission or a scripted event.
After I had captured some points I had some allies. They don't ride around with you or group up like they do in San Andreas but they fight enemies and defend points. I followed an ally in a jeep and arrived at another jeep of allies whose jeep had been damaged and needed repairs. I helped them fix it and they were on there way. Again a random event that would normally be a scripted mission.
Crafting is enjoyable although needing to craft a bigger wallet was very Zelda like. Really? I can carry 4 guns but I need a pig pelt to carry an extra $1,000? It does make you scout out the wildlife though and pay attention to your areas.
There is a weird mission structure. I was on a current mission but wandered off to do something else. I got a little too far away and failed the mission and was taken back to the checkpoint as if I had died. Thankfully this doesn't happen on every mission and I was actually happy to see there wasn't a quest tracker like an MMO or Borderlands just a game map that outlined what was available.
I will leave it at that but this game is highly recommended. It doesn't have that epic Skyrim feel of this massive world (you are on an island anyways) but there are so many things to do you will spend hours searching for a pelt and fighting over an outpost that you will be hopelessly addicted.
Enough of this. Back to it!Comment

I just tried MP and I instantly stopped. It seemed sluggish and I just couldn't feel it. I know I know I really didn't give it a chance but I will give it a go again when I get back from my sons bball practice in an hour or so

Ok tried another round of TDM and I can say without any doubt that MP sucks big time. Now that's just my opinion of that particular game type. I have no desire to even try the other game types. Again it's sluggish and graphically it's PS2ish.
On to SP

Haha, I reckon it is such a refreshing start for a video game. Could easily make for a good intro to a survival movie. The way they set up the little bit of story for the playable character is great and I love taking on the persona of someone who isn't a bull necked retired spec ops guy for a change. The motivation to step up and go take down the island is cool too. Ads visceral currency.Last edited by 18 eighty 5; 11-30-2012, 10:07 PM.We are the music makers...Comment
