    Re: Dishonored

Currently averaging a 89/100 on Metacritic out of 37 reviews. All 80+ scores except for one 70. Excited to pick this up tommorow, only minor concern I have is the short length cited by some of the reviews. Seems like some of the reviewers may be skipping some of the side stuff, though. Hoping it's at least 10 hours to complete everything 100%. It does seem like the game will offer some replaybility with the different approaches and I will play through it at least twice, so I would be satisfied with 20+ hours from multiple playthroughs.

Personally I wish they were more stealth games or games where stealth is at least viable, they are few and far between. The market seems to be oversaturated by mindless shooters and action games (not that I don't enjoy those games if they are high quality games). Always reshreshing to play a more cerebral type game, it's a nice change of pace.

I was going to skip this but it's looking like I might have to give it a shot.

Everything looks great but I'll never understand while some shooters choose to annimate deaths like they happened on the moon. A simple pistol shot shouldn't send you end over end (and five feet up in the air) like in the gametrailers review.

        Re: Dishonored

I'm fine with it being 10-15 hours long. As long as its good I'll probably play through it twice, and there's tons of others games coming out or are already out that I still need to play. I've still barely made a dent into Borderlands 2 with how bus I've been lately.

Everything else will be set aside though until I finish Dishonored.

Glad I decided to wait to pick this up. The length of the game does not justify spending $60 for me. I'm sure it will be available for $40 or lower after Thanksgiving.

By the time I finish XCOM and want to take a break and play something different I should be able to grab this on sale.
Never got Borderlands 2 as it just doesn't do much for me. So I'll be able to check out some OS impressions also before buying.

Lol yep I'm sure I did. I've had a drafted article titled "in defense of short games" for about 3 months now that I haven't finished yet.

                    Re: Dishonored

For me its not a short game thing its a single player game thing. I still have Arkham City in the shrink wrap, which I got for absurdly cheap last Black Friday. There is no need for me to rush out and spend full retail for a game which will rapidly drop in price, and for which there is no Day 1-or nothing barrier to entry.

If I don't get into a COD or certain sports titles or MMOs right away, I'll be so far behind the curve (especially with my decayed old-man skills) I'll never be able to compete well enough to even resemble fun. As long as my console powers up, I can enjoy Dishonored at any point.

Oh man, only 10-15 hours long? For real? Darn was going to get this tomorrow. All the reviews are very high.

                        Re: Dishonored

After seeing a couple more reviews, it seems like the game isn't that short if the player completes all the side stuff and plays on one of the higher difficulties. Rock, paper, shotgun review/article actually said it took them 25 hours to complete the game fully. Seeing a couple reviews say less than 10 hours made me a tad concerned, but it seems like those particular reviewers rushed through the game and didn't do any of the side stuff. Considering I am somebody who likes to complete everything and was planning on playing on one of the higher difficulties, I don't think length will a problem for me. Not to mention several of the reviews mentioned the viability of multiple playthroughs, so even just one additional playthrough increases that playtime sigficantly.

At the end of the day quality is still more important than sheer quantity. I will take a 10-20 hour experience that is top notch throughout (espcially ones that have multiple playthrough viability, which this seems to have), over a 25-30 hour experience with 10 hours worth of uninteresting filler any day. It's one thing if the devs can muster 25+ hours of interesting content, it's another thing entirely if things are added just to artifically increase the length of a game.

Like I said I love stealth games, and considering how few there are, this is definatly a day one buy for me tommorow.

If it wasn't coming out the same day as XCOM it would be a day 1 for me. I look forward to reading impressions from those that do pick it up.

I've changed my mind and will redbox this today since they have it because I will be buying AC in a few weeks and might have to pick up XCOM at some point.

See if I can beat it in 3-4 days. Then if it's as good as I hope, I will buy it later.

After reading up on the game a little more my concerns about the length have diminished a bit. From what I understand playing on a higher difficulty with indicator turned off is the way to go. Also been reading that the game is actually more enjoyable your 2nd or 3rd playthrough due to all the different ways to go about things.

Still going to wait on picking this up. I simply don't have time to play due to life and the other games I still need to finish.

But my initial disappointment is gone. So that's a good thing.
