Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Okay so I've opened the game, played a bit but its going back in 7 days for a sealed copy as my cutscenes skip like crazy, or characters have their back to me, or are sitting in mid air.
One thing I dislike as Im playing on HARD, is for me; Im like Thomas' English Muffin's when it comes to games. Im going through every nook & cranny.SpoilerThe part where you have to chase Robert, Im trying to search where he was while chasing, because I dont' want to miss anything. Why does 4 fails for not chasing count as deaths?
Just odd..NBA Live is the epitome of Cancel Culture..

Finished the game. One of the greatest experiences i have had in gaming. The only negatives for me are the repetitive pallets and ladders appearing for sequences to continue. I would of liked to have seen more diversity in ways you had to advance.Comment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
So I finally made myself play through to the end and
SpoilerWow.
That might have been the first game I sat through the credits for, not to read any of them, just thinking and reflecting on everything Joel, Ellie, and myself had just been through.
Just think, the 30 fireflies Joel killed, the doctor who pulled that scalpel like a ******* getting a shorty blst to the face, Marlene, humanity, all of these could have been saved by just giving Joel a moment with Ellie and letting Ellie decide for herself what she wanted. It's possible Joel wouldn't have accepted it, but he was never given the chance.
Frankly, the fireflies weren't really any better than David's group of cannibals, willing to kill Ellie without conscience all in the name of "survival". Their ultimate goal of curing the fungus was more noble, but it was all undone by actions. I'm also not sure dissecting Ellie is the best route to a solution, just a desperate one. They barely had any time to study what was going on, Joel couldn't have been out THAT long. One of the audio recordings said that they were "tired" and just wanted to get it all over with, might have been Marlene. Who the **** thinks butchering someone is OK because they are "tired"?
I guess, in the end, when the world goes to **** and no choice seems like the right one, might as well go with the selfish one.
Also, it didn't end as I suspected, I expected them to both end up dead, but wasn't exactly a happy ending either.Last edited by Burns11; 06-18-2013, 02:01 AM.Comment

SpoilerI honestly thought Joel's decision was a selfish one and he did that because his daughter had died 20 years earlier and Ellie reminded him of her a bit. She didn't get a chance to choose whether to live or die but at that moment he felt Ellie didn't either? I was confused on that because he told Marlene she had no right to choose death or life for Ellie but he turned around and chose death for Marlene and life for Ellie
Just seemed really selfish of him to do that then lie to Ellie.
Also I think the doctors studied enough to know they could make a cure, but also discovered after she was there that they couldn't extract it without killing the host. She was the only one available after all so how much more studying could they have done?

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Ok, so I sadly had to watch the 3 hour "movie" of this on youtube thanks to my Xbox not playing Playstation games and....SpoilerMan. This was a very dark story. It was almost too gruesome at times. Not God of War or Mortal Kombat gruesome, no this looked very real. Almost made me uncomfortable and I wasn't even playing.
Once again, the voice acting, cutscenes and writing were impeccable. Naughty Dog is so far out in front in that regard. I was a bit disappointed in their usage of the clickers though. Such a cool concept but I suppose they were aiming towards the "living are the ones you have to look out for" idea. The ending was pretty expected minus the brutal killings. I figured after the opening cinematic that Joel would keep Elli alive. All of the 'seasons' pointed towards the same general message. There is no such thing as good. Only the savages survive, which is definitely true. Although there wasn't a Bioshock-esque plot twist, I love how this game avoided the major clichés.
All in all, I can't speak for the greatness of the game but this story could hold its own with movie films. It boggles my mind to think what Naughty Dog does on the next gen systems. Thank goodness I'm making the switch to PS4!SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

About the endSpoilerYeah Joel's decision was a selfish one, but it seemed everyone's decisions were selfish, nobody ever wanted to simply let Ellie decide for herself.
There was some stuff about how they had done blood cultures and stuff, but no way was Joel out long enough for them to extensively study her and what the fungus was doing. I mean, if they don't at the very least exhaust all study options before killing her, if they dissect and it doesn't give them what they need they are ****ed.
That confusion is just part of their bigger problem, people being selfish and only seeing the world from their perspective. The Firefly doctors saw Ellie as a lab rat, Joel saw Ellie as a surrogate daughter, Marlene saw Ellie as a weapon against FEDRA, nobody saw Ellie as a person who should make a decision for herself.
Really, at that moment my reaction was the same as Joel's, no way were they going to vivisect Ellie like that.Comment
