    Oh wow I was thinking 8 hours or something. Even with one play through that's a lot of game for the money. A second time around is some serious value. Thanks.

      I am getting ready to start over because I downloaded the extra maps for single player. I definitely learned from my mistakes.

        I got sidetracked with AC III and LEGO LOTR. I still haven't finished my first playthrough of XCOM. If I remember correctly, I was waiting on doing the final mission to try and build up my squad a bit. I'll have to download the new maps and give those a try.

          New maps ? wow.....I thought currently they had a ton of maps as it is and now they have new ones ? Game just gets better and better.

            It released early December, its called slingshot. It adds a few maps to the story. It cost about 7 bucks but you have to restart for it to be included in the existing game. Some say you do not get much but since I really enjoy the game I went for it.

            XCOM's Slingshot DLC is available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC today and Firaxis has released a trailer and screenshots to let fans know what they're getting into.

              The only thing I can see myself NOT liking about this game is the fact that you have to upgrade to alien technology to stay competitive. I'm really not looking forward to using laser guns and having jet pack armor. I like the rattle of rifle fire and the standard armored up future soldier.

              Unless.......anyone think its possible to play through the game without using the laser rifles and future armor? If its possible to do this with the trade off being the game is just a bit more difficult, I'll take the trade off. I absolutely DO NOT want to use laser rifles.

                If you don't use plasma weapons, you won't survive the second half of the game. Their armor is way too thick for bullets. It would be like throwing rocks at a tank.

                Plasma > Laser > Bullets

                  Is the elite soldier pack DLC worth it or is it just cosmetic?

                  EDIT: Also, should I play through the game first and then get slingshot or just get it from the beginning?

                    if you are going to get Slingshot do it from the start... I am pretty sure Elite is cosmetics only.

                      Yeah Elite is cosmetics only, but I like it because it makes much easier to tell your guys apart when you assign them different colors when you are on the battlefield.

                          A few Mods I seen HERE

                          Main one I'm going to try out...

                          "Warspace Extension Mod"

                          Already being described as the first “must-have” XCOM mod, the Warspace Extension introduces a slew of tweaks and rebalances aross the board, from weapon damage, to map enhancements, to character and item changes. “I wanted the player’s decisions to become more meaningful, rather than being punished randomly by the game all the time,” writes modder Black Alpha.” Check out this list of changes:

                          Weapons rebalanced:
                          •Conventional guns are average.
                          •Lasers do less damage but are more accurate. Higher chance to damage the environment and do criticals.
                          •Plasma weapons do more damage but are less accurate. Highest chance to damage the environment and do criticals.
                          •Plasma weapons take a few more shots to damage the environment compared to vanilla settings (in which they destroyed almost everything with a single hit).
                          •Arc Thrower now goes in the pistol slot (it has full animation and graphics, so I guess this is how it was originally made).
                          •Pistols have slightly less accuracy compared to rifles.
                          •Pistols need to be reloaded, just like every other weapon.
                          •Shotguns do more damage but have a bit less accuracy compared to rifles. Shotguns should be more useful now.
                          •Sniper rifles have slightly more accuracy compared to the other weapons.
                          •The sniper rifle’s close range accuracy penalty has been removed (it still needs two moves to be able to fire, I think that’s harsh enough).

                          Strategical map rebalanced:
                          •The missions the player ignores won’t decrease the panic level of entire continents anymore, but only of specific countries.
                          •Panic penalties will mostly apply to single countries, but the panic penalties are bigger.
                          •When it’s time to decide whether to leave the council, continents with a satellite have a small chance to stay, countries with a sat have a bigger chance.
                          •Satellites are more likely to decrease panic levels inside the country once a month.
                          •Countries with no satellite in their continent will leave at the end of the month when their panic level reaches level 4.
                          •Normal satellites have a very tiny chance not to be destroyed by UFOs when undefended.
                          •Stealth satellites have a much bigger chance not to be destroyed by UFOs when undefended.
                          •European countries give slightly more money to give the player an incentive to put your satellites there.
                          •Increased chance for UFOs showing up.
                          •UFOs doing missions can be intercepted sometimes.

                          Characters rebalanced:
                          •Human rookies start off with a bit less accuracy.
                          •Human soldiers gain more Will with each level to decrease the chances of panic.
                          •Human soldiers who panic won’t try to kill your own soldiers anymore (the guy who thought this was a great idea deserves to be shot).
                          •Soldiers who take damage during missions will be recovering for a MUCH longer time, especially if they are “gravely injured”, so don’t get hit!
                          •Tanks take a few more days to be repaired when heavily damaged.
                          •Carapace, Titan and Archangel armors provide two item slots instead of just one.

                          General Tweaks:
                          •Civilians killed during Terror Missions will turn into zombies on Normal and Classic (it already was so on Impossible).
                          •On Normal and Classic difficulty levels, the AI should now use more than 5 NPCs (it already was so on Impossible)
                          •Normal, Classic and Impossible difficulty levels should be the same now, apart from hard-coded differences, like more enemies and unlocking the full AI.
                          •Basically, if you want full AI, play on Classic or Impossible.
                          •Keep in mind, this mod was made for the Classic difficulty level, but I guess Impossible should work too. AI is shackled on Normal, so don’t play that!
                          •Second Wave is enabled.

                          The Warspace Extension mod is designed to be played on Classic Difficulty, with full AI — but the creator gives a warning against save scumming. “This mod is more ‘fair’ than vanilla,” writes Black Alpha, “and is best played by letting the bad decisions simply happen, don’t reload. You can recover from bad decisions.”

                            Gotten back into this bigtime the last couple days. I played through quite a bit of the game back in October, but hadn't picked it up since for some reason.

                            I started a Normal Ironman playthrough, and had been rolling along through a few missions. That is until the first escort mission. One of the thin men jumped down and ran behind cover. Well, I decided to move my other guys into cover to keep the civilian safe, but I had my support guy flank the thin man. Popped off a shot right beside him, but it only hit for 2 damage, and my turn was over. One critical hit later from the thin man, and my support guy was down for the count. I wound up completing the rest of the mission without so much as a scratch, but that was a stupid mistake that could have been avoided.

                            Forgot how much I love this game.

                              I can't believe I sat on this game for a week and a half after I bought it just because I couldn't stop trying to fix NCAA 13. Will someone please slap me in the face...I deserve it. This game is beautiful. I love it so much. I've always been a fan of turn based strategy games but since I'm not a PC gamer I rarely get a chance to play a good one. So happy this is out on consoles. Definitely my GOTY for 2012. My favorite class is a Sniper on high ground with Squadsight, Damn Good Ground, Opportunist and Double Tap.

                              I also have a question. I'm playing my first game on normal and have already lost a few countries from the XCOM counsil before I got the knack of stacking my engineering projects on top of each other and getting my Sat Uplinks up and going. Is there a way to play through this game without losing a single nation from the counsil?

                              LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

                                Nearly impossible to not lose one country through out the game. Terror attacks are no joke and that normally when you lose a nation. But yeah, now you know why I stopped on NCAA 13. XCom has me hooked. going to buy the Slingshot DLC later on tonight.
