    Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Lost a hell of a sniper last night.
Totally my fault as I got greedy.

Felt like I needed to mail someone some money or something afterwards......

This game owns my soul. Just about to do the alien base mission.

Any tips? Is it extra difficult? Do I have to do it right away? Don't want to throw away my current game.

      Playin on normal ironman....

I think Russell or someone else mentioned something similar to this but the difficulty might depend on how far along you are in the game as far as research, etc? In my current game, the base wasn't all that bad. Lost a heavy and my medic (thanks panicked Psycho) but it wasn't too bad. I think in my last game where I had titan armor and a lot of inexperienced soldiers, but hadn't even done the capture an alien task yet, I got the impression from earlier posts that I likely would have gotten destroyed in the base had I done it.

I have a bunch of laser weapons, carapace armor, skeleton, etc. I don't have the Titan.

Getting nervous my whole crew is gonna be smashed.

Unless you've started seeing heavy floaters and mutons, you should be okay. I only ran into regular floaters, mutons, a cyberdisk, chrysallids, and a surprise at the end, which I handled without a problem. In this current game I'm playing, I haven't even researched titan armor yet. I've finished the base, have satellites up everywhere (should say had - a UFO battleship just blasted one away), and I recently saw the heavy floater for the first time in this game. I'm not sure what triggers the appearances of the stronger versions of each enemy but I'm guessing it's research. I started seeing all kinds of tougher versions of enemies after I researched titan armor in my last game. That's kind of why I put it off so long in this current game.

Not sure...but most likely tied to your tech tree.

I'm seeing the heavy floaters regularly now.....multiple discs and mostly mutons on my missions now....as well as the red mutons which if they get a path to you...bye-bye....but if you set it up with a gauntlet ambush of overwatch(or guys with reaction shots)...you can basically pull him down the corridor and eliminate him with ease(even with his high hit points)
I don't have Titan armor yet either.

              Something surprising happened last night.
I was down to a few hundred credits.....few engineers available.
I got a request for 9 plasma rifles from Japan(who has withdrawn from the council already) which would pay me 3,500 credits.
I have 5 equipped....and since they are instantly manufactured....I figured why not?...I made 4 more after selling just about everything except elirium and alloys etc on the gray market and took the cash.
Now to build some facilities and get that alien base destroyed!

                Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I installed the demo last night and it ran at the highest resolution my monitor could go (by default!). In the video settings I didn't see any other real options to change/tweak.

The demo ran fine on my PC, so is this just a game that doesn't require as top end of a pc? More basic of a game graphics wise? (I don't mean that in a bad way) Mine's a 2+ year old desktop, it's not bad I just don't update it at all.

I'm now tempted to get this on PC if the demo ran fine on my computer and that was indicative of the performance of the actual game.

Might even try running it on my older but somewhat beefy laptop and see how it does. Can you share the save through Steam or does this game not do that? I've never used that steam sharing stuff.

I waited like 3 months for the alien base mission- there were 3 Sectapod's waiting for me. Thankfully they were spread out, and I could take them out. Had 2 Heavies with the 100% against robotics for that mission.

Its not a graphics intensive game.
I do not think it utilizes steam cloud saving.

Thanks! Since it runs pretty well I think I'll just go ahead and get it for the PC. My computer's near the TV anyways, so I can always connect it to there if needed.

Now I'd like to find a sale lol.

I could be wrong - I am not a big PC gamer, and I haven't tried loading the game on two different PC's, BUT...I have definitely seen a quick pop-up about "synching Steam cloud" either before starting the game up or after closing it out.

It's not a big deal, just interested. Never used Steam Cloud, but could be cool to play the same save on 2 separate machines.

Great. Just lost my 60 kill, 30 mission heavy and my 50 kill, 25 mission assault guy on a battleship mission.

I'm totally ****ed. Feel a little sick.
