Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
My last couple of missions have been very sweaty! I have lost only 2 people but my squad has been coming back pretty banged up! Love this game but the lack of sleep is really catching up to me, lol.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Haven't lost any squad mates the last four missions. Have two Majors, one is a heavy, the other a sniper with the most kills out of all my soldiers, going at over two kills a mission.
One of this games great strengths is the addictive squad mate leveling up system. I ask trying to raise up rookies, squaddies, corporal's and sergeants to higher ranks by giving different soldiers an opportunity but also having to keep in mind their will.We are the music makers...Comment

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Are you guys just constantly buying satellites? I only have four up and running and am starting to lose areas.Comment

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Of course, leave money in your budget to keep your soldiers well-equipped at a minimum and your air defenses up to par. But everything else should be focused on getting satellites up.Comment

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Another thing that I've gotten in the habit of doing is unequipping all armor/weapons/items from my soldiers in the barracks after each mission. This saves time when accepting a new mission and can prevent you from forgetting you have an item available. Keep in mind that when a soldier recovers from injury, they are re-equipped with whatever they were wearing in battle.Comment

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Classic difficulty Iron man is like a completely different game. I'm getting my destroyed big time. In normal they give you the officer training school in classic you have to build it. The enemies have more hit points, they are better shots, and their A.I. is upgraded. Everything cost more money etc............... I lost 16 total soldiers in my normal play through for the whole game. I've lost 8 through the first two hours on classic.
I'm starting to understand why the devs said classic iron man is the truest form of the game its brutal. I also have no money to do anything lol.Comment

Definitely.
I'm ready to bump back down.....as I know I'm missing tech trees and properly building my facilities.
I've only managed to get 3 sats up and running and I'm losing countries left and right now. I just can't cover them.
I like the challenge, but I want to see everything.
Like Nem said ....going waaaaay into the night playing this game.
I hope there is a follow up and I KNOW there will be mods for the PC.
GREAT investment in gaming for me. Getting my $$ worth for sure.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Just had a bug/glitch happen. Someone may have mentioned it already. Don't recall seeing anything though.
I was working on a large scout UFO landing. I've eliminated all aliens (I think) except for one of the red mutons. A few of my soldiers fire on him to get its health down to 1 bar. In the process, the red muton does its usual intimidate and moves right next to the last guy that got damage on it. I still have one soldier yet to take a turn at this point and the game won't let him do anything. Music is playing, characters on the screen show stationary movement like normal, but all controls other than clicking LS don't work, not even the start button. I can move the movement circle around but pressing A won't cause my guy to move. Needless to say I wasn't happy and exited the game. I really hope that doesn't happen again.
I like this game but there are some things that frustrate me:
1. I really suck. I'm playing on easy and have gotten my butt kicked lots of times lately. I can't say I've done an abduction or landing mission lately without losing at least one soldier and they are all equipped with titan armor. I just think I have poor tactics. I really thought I was getting the hang of it but apparently not. Weak soldiers in the barracks hasn't helped. I should probably start over again. I'm a decent ways into the game as far as satellite coverage, research, etc., but I haven't even captured an alien yet to interrogate it. That probably wasn't smart to keep putting that off.
2. It drives me nuts to no end how enemies, and even my guys, can shoot through walls when there is no line-of-sight as to what is on the other side. I don't like that at all. I had a soldier die on a mission tonight that was at least 3 or 4 tiles away from a hallway in a UFO right next to a full-shield cover and a muton a good ways away on the other side of the map shoots me through the wall and I die. I was like, WTF? There was no way it, or any other enemy, could see me where I was positioned.
I like the game. I really do. But tonight turned me off a bit.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Buy as many satellites as you can and build your facility with a cluster of satellite uplinks or nexus in mind. Each time you build an uplink next to another one, you get a bonus satellite slot. Try and time it so that you complete your satellites as close to having the capacity for them as you can. Satellite Uplink takes 14 days to complete, a satellite takes 20. Having them up greatly reduces the alien abduction missions you have to take on, and you get extra money and scientists/engineers from them. Plus it's fun to shoot those suckers down with your aircraft.
Of course, leave money in your budget to keep your soldiers well-equipped at a minimum and your air defenses up to par. But everything else should be focused on getting satellites up.
Excellent advice. This is exactly why I started my fist play through all over. I was overwhelmed with panic and chaos without uplinks and satellites. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I threw it on Classic last night just to see what it was like. I got wiped off the map 3 times on the very first mission before finally beating it. That was only going up against 5 regular sectoids. The biggest problem I had was friendly fire from panicked soldiers. That ought to be fun.
I think I'll finish on Normal before I delve into insanity.Comment
