Assaulting the enemy base early in the game was a bad idea. I was doing well until one of my guys ventured a bit too far and alerted some aliens. That cost me my entire squad.

    My weapons seemed so useless.

Yeah, it's easy to get in over your head if you haven't done enough research.

          Question for everyone.

I'm starting to get a few areas threatening to leave due to panic. I've been putting up satellites, but I don't have the ships that can reach everywhere.

Do I have to research something so I can put more ships around?

I'm thinking of restarting so I can get my base set up a little better, is the strategy to build more interceptors and satellites? Just don't want to set myself up to where I'll completely fail.

If you go to the hangar Tab you can build more interceptors in different countries

Wow, musta missed that somehow, I'll take a look tonight.

Is that a good strategy? Get a couple ships up to give us more coverage, along with building satellites?

Now I'm not sure I can recover from the 3ish countries who aren't too happy with me right now.

Whenever I put up a new satellite I would always make sure I had at least two interceptors there too. And if I was chasing a UFO but my planes were getting nailed hard I would abort the mission before losing the plane. Sometimes I'd lose the UFO, which can come back to bite you.

I have aliens popping out of every orifice now, lol. Things are spiraling out of control and now have many countries upset with me.

I do have question, if I have a sattelite over a country that pulls out do I lose that sattelite or can it be moved somewhere else?

                    You lose the satellite.

Yeah, somehow I skipped over or didn't see the interceptor option.

I wanted to restart without the tutorial anyways, so makes sense now that I understand that stuff a bit more...

Plus my steam locations were all on the bottom row, that blows big time.

Any downside to skipping tutorial on normal?

I don't think so, although I'm playing on easy. In fact I thought it was better skipping the tutorial because I could build a satellite uplink next to the existing one you start with and get that adjacent squares bonus. In the tutorial it forces you to build that alien containment facility there. So just from that standpoint it was worth skipping.

Yeah, I noticed that now...i remember being annoyed that I couldn't lay out my base like I wanted at first, but my restart last night was better. Only one Steam area, but I'll manage that.

I found the Hangar I was skipping over before, so am now getting 2 interceptors whenever I throw up a satellite over a new continent....much nicer. Now I just have to figure out when I can buy better ships and when to upgrade.

I feel I can do well this time though managing the terror. Just have to be more careful on missions and not get too cocky. Cocky=death in XCOM!

Does the game get progressively harder as you go? On normal, and most missions end with a wound or two, but haven't lost a key soldier in a long time. Wondering if it's time to bump it up...

I didn't get super far into it, but in my experience it did get harder. I played the first hour or so and was getting cocky...this ended up in my entire team getting killed on the first UFO invasion mission. One mistake can get someone killed.

These guys here will have more input though.

Take Two's saying that XCOM is both a "commercial and critical success". Awesome! Should mean that a sequel is possible, and I can only imagine what Jake and all the other devs can do to build on such a great game.
