I know what you mean. I took on an abduction mission that one of the rewards was a recruit that I really needed: a Captain/Support. But in the process, I lost another high-ranking soldier However, it turned out to be a worthy sacrifice in that case.

Killed me when I lost my top sniper. Took a while to recover from that as well (I hadn't groomed a backup since I usually just had 1 sniper on a mission). I learned and started grooming backups really fast.

Rely on your main team too often and you'll be screwed when someone dies.

This really can't be overstated. I learned QUICK about having an 'A' team and a 'B' team. I'm very comfortable with my soldiers right now (and two outstanding snipers), just gotta make sure to keep bringing low rankers along. I like to have about 15 well-trained soldiers and one SHIV.

The game definitely gets tougher as you go, even when you believe your troops are pretty powered up w/top armors and weapons.

However, my tactics are improving, and I had a great moment this weekend.

UFO crash site, and I was doing my cautious, leap-frogging and overwatch sweeps. Slow going, but it saves lives. I had advanced four soldiers into an area with good cover and everyone on overwatch. Then a Bezerker ran into the kill-zone and my four forward units AND my sniper unleashed hell simultaneously on this thing! A hail of plasma fire shredded him and that was that! I just sat back and laughed.

Oh BTW, I love those guided alien-powered rockets the heavies get later! They make me happy...

            This game is so cool.

Yeah I am hooked again. Playing here and there to get a break from The Show 13.

I am now seeing if my top 3 soldiers can get psi powers.

Me too...my colonel sniper is in testing right now. I am not sure how much I will actually use those powers as I like the tactics I am using now.

Just started playing this game. It's crack that makes you cry.

I have named a couple of my soldiers after my friends who I play football/soccer with. Thankfully, none have died YET but man is it nerve-wracking to assault the aliens. I have also had the UK withdraw their support, hopefully it's not that bad a loss.

Is there a mission/time limit in the campaign? I can

You can assault the base whenever you like. I tried it relatively early on but I was so lousy with tactics that I got wiped out. I decided to reload and wait until I was more 'burly' with top armor and weapons and it was much easier, especially after learning how 'overwatch' works and learning better team tactics.

Well, I'm happy/sad because I completed the game yesterday.

Such a great experience! I delayed and put off triggering that final mission with the volunteer for a long time. I just kept scanning for world incidents and going off on terror missions, bomb missions, crashed UFO's etc. Just to keep soldier-building. It's so fun.

Finally relented and did the final mission. Man it was a tough go. When I struck the final blow, three of my team members were in critical condition.

Good stuff! Enjoyed this about as much as Far Cry 3. I feel fortunate to have found two such outstanding games this year.

My goals next playthrough include getting a soldier through the whole game, every mission alive for the cheevo, and cutting my soldier losses by about 50%.

After putting it down after getting stuck last year, decided to start a new game yesterday on Ironman. Knowing how facilities and research work now has made building a lot more optimal. Decided to try and research a Satellite Nexus as soon as possible while holding off on some of the priority buildings like Alien Containment. Definitely did not have enough satellites on my last playthrough.

All soldiers are being named after NFL players. I usually keep their initials and figure out a name from there. Figures that my only soldier to die so far is Joey Harrington. Steve McNair has been tearing it up so far though.

Havent played since my kick *** sniper got killed just before going to the alien base. Took an extra mission instead of just going to the base and i screwed the mission all up. Lost half my team that i had from the beginning and havent found the courage to play again lol
