Update rolling out to help with stablity:

    Update - Wednesday 03.06.2013 (07:00 EST/06:00 CST/04:00 PST)

Over the next few hours, we'll be deploying a server update which should help to improve game performance and resolve the following issues:
    • Trading not working consistently
    • Unable to load/claim city errors
    • Getting stuck in a loop in the tutorial

While this update is being applied, you may experience intermittent performance issues, which we apologize for. We'll provide more information on the update process as it becomes available.

Welcome to EA Forums, where you can chat about games with other players, help each other out, share feedback, and report issues you’re having with EA games.

So SimCity is now a multiplayer game then? Now sure how that would work if that's the case, and personally, I wouldn't want to play it as a MP based on the old games gameplay mechanics. Wish companies, especially EA, would stop trying to make every game MP/online. Some games are just fine, and a far better fit, as a single player experience.

Yes, SimCity being an online-only multiplayer game is roughly 9-month old news.

I don't expect anything to really change your mind after reading stuff like https://twitter.com/Valdarez/status/309371726087737345 though.

If you'd actually like to formulate an informed opinion this thread is a year old, and they happen to have a website too! http://www.simcity.com.

You don't need to play with others, you can set your region to private and do whatever you want. Build one city, or build 16 and control them yourself.

Even solo you can buy and sell from the global market, rank on leaderboards, participate on challenges, etc.

Global market is a big deal if you want a coal powerplant and have no coal, for example or are importing materials for Great Works in your region.

Looks like they're done patching the NA servers.

The only problem I've had with the new Simcity is my computer overheating when I play it for long periods of time. no server issues, no graphic bugs, no school problems. Once I solve the overheating, I'll be able to enjoy it much more.

Does anyone know how to send invites? Does the person have to be actively on and on the same server?

Yep. Not a fan of unnecessary online constant connection. Huge fan of Blizzard and Diablo 3 was a major let down for that reason (and many others come to find out after playing the game). I won't be buying/playing SimCity myself, primarily for online/constant connection reason. Voting with our wallets is the only thing we can do to protest after all.

Interested in hearing/reading more on the MP aspect though. When I think of MP, I think of one thing and that's warfare (FPS - shooting, RPG - arenas, RTS - armies), and I'm genuinely intrigued at what concepts they came up with for the MP aspect of the game and whether it's a good/fun mode, or just another tacked on MP mode like so many games tend to do these days.

How do I join my friends’ regions?
You can search for your friends’ regions from the Play menu under the Join Game tab. From here, select the Friends tab and choose which friends you would like to filter your search by. Invitations to regions will appear in the Games Invites button on the main menu. From here, click on the invite to join the region and claim a city. You can also view CityLog to see what regions your friends are playing and it will take you directly to their region.

How do I invite my friends to play in a region with me?
From the Play menu, go to the Resume Game tab. From here, open one of your saved regions and click the “Invite Friends” tab to send requests to join your region. You can also invite friends when creating a new region, even if it’s private.

Why can’t I find my Origin friends using the SimCity search?
Your SimCity friend list will only show friends playing on the same server – if you’re on different servers, you won’t show up for each other. In order to play with your friends, you’ll all need to join the same server. If you aren’t sure how to change server, please take a look at this article.

I'm guessing they need to be on the same server, but since friends list isnt working I'm not sure.

Do you guys think my laptop will run this? I checked System Requirements Lab, and the only thing that fails is the graphics card. All i've got is the plain old Intel(R) HD graphics. Everything else checks out fine, but i'm worried this thing will be slow as molasses. I'd play it on my desktop if it hadn't just crapped the bed on me.

For what it's worth, i'd be alright with turning the graphics down fairly low. That doesn't really bother me with a game like this. As long as it doesn't run incredibly slow, i'm cool.

It would be slow as hell the more stuff you have on screen, but with the lowest settings it might be still playable until your city gets really big.

Had zero issues installing and none so far playing. Love the game. Glad some things like laying water lines down is gone but if I ever want to go back to that kind of micro work I'll fire up SC4.

So far it's been giving me fun times.
