    Re: SimCity 5

Heh. Kind of amused that this has caught USA Today's radar.

A senior producer for the city-building simulation SimCity says studio Maxis is working to alleviate problems preventing players from connecting and playing the PC game.

In a statement posted on the game's official forums, senior producer Kip Katsarelis says the studio is "deploying more servers over the coming two days" to cut back on long wait times, as well as push several patches to fix key technical bugs.

"We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and enthusiasm from our fans which has made it even more upsetting for us that technical issues have become more prominent in the last 24 hours," says Katsarelis.
I tried to play for the first time last night, but gave up after about 15 minutes. At one point it looked like I had successfully connected to NA East 1 and took me to a loading screen, but then it gave me an error message and booted me back to the main menu.

Fingers crossed for better luck tonight.

This should be warning to all companies to not have online always as a requirement to play a game. I so hope EA doesn't use this requirement for their future games they make.

Game has been pulled by Amazon now due to all the chargebacks. Words cant describe this debacle. Cheetah speed has been removed to, which is going to slow down the game drastically.

I'm showing that it's still there just with a warning about the servers..edit that is the limited edition, standard is gone like OP stated.

                        * Fix for crash caused most commonly occurring on servers experiencing lag. This crash would happen most often when claiming a new city when playing in a region.

                        * Disabled Cheetah speed. Cheetah speed is is now the same as llama speed.
                        * Crash fix for finding closest points.
                        * Crash fixes in transport and pedestrian code.

I don't have as much of a problem with the "Online Only" requirement as I do with the fact that they were completely unprepared for the load their servers were going to take with this launch. You've just got to have people in place who can predict the load better than this.

Saw that story on Kotaku. F'n hilarious. Everytime I see another news agency picking up this story, I grow more and more confident that they'll either A: Get their **** together quicker or B: Offer some sort of free DLC for the early adopters of this game/headache.

I'm trying to get the OSVille started if it hasn't been done already. Though I think we could buy land and build a real city quicker than this is taking.

Yup. Like others have said, I'm sure I'll love this game once it's functional, so all the talk of refunds seems a bit silly. I can't imagine this whole debacle lasting more than a couple days. But some free DLC sure would be a nice gesture on EA's part, and completely warranted.

To be honest, you should probably just wait until the thing has stabilized. I'd hate to have a bunch of us put in a decent amount of time to build our city, only to have it somehow lost with all this server nonsense.

                                Just my two cents...
