Re: EA voted Worst Company In America For 2012

Hmm...Well I can think of a few companies that are worse than EA but I won't go there.

I will say though that EA has some serious PR issues despite having huge success in the video game industry.

I would agree. The comments they made about being voted worst company is what they always do when presented with opinions that say their products lack quality. "Well, Madden continues to be our top selling flagship title and according to the metacritic...etc., so we think our games are excellent."

I understand why they do that. EA is a huge company that has to perform and make profit. They can't be shedding negative light on their product. But what hurts their relationship with gamers is how blatant there attempts at making money are and how often their games tend to lack. I still say they make good games and do deliver in key areas, but a case in point would be Fight Night Champion.

EA introduced with FNC the ability to purchase XP points (instead of earning them in game) and apply those points to your created boxer. What happened was the points started to disappear and could no longer be accessed. So you have the consumer that spent money on these XP points, money outside of the initial game purchase, and can no longer access them because of an issue with the game, yet EA was not appropriately fixing the issues and still hasn't.

That's just one issue. I'm sure there are others and it does add up.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Im surprised that EA "won" this poll. I dont have EA anywhere near my worst companies in America.

I find other things like crappy cable companies or a bank charging $5 to use checking fees much worse then a game company.
        MLB: Texas Rangers
        Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
        NCAA: SMU, UTA
        NFL: Dallas Cowboys
        NHL: Dallas Stars
        NBA: Dallas Mavericks

I own a band check it out

I've heard terrible things about EA. Terrible hours, little pay, and everyone getting fired after a project is finished. Not a good rep to have.

Worst video game company, maybe...tied with Activision.

Worse company period? No f'n way.

Bank of America: wanton gambling with investor money and mass defrauding of American taxpayers, not to mention petty nickel-and-diming of their Main Street small fish customers...and that whole mortgage-backed securities disaster thingee that almost collapsed our financial system...

Comcast: monopolistic strong-arming of cable markets and customers, sub-par service at premium prices, glacial adoption of new technology

AT&T: I mean, what more can be said about them? Worst phone company ever.

Look, I hate EA with a passion, but they're a minor sub-boss in level 1-1 compared to the other super-villainous companies in this country...

Many are upset with the way they handle DLC and nickle and dime everyone. Plus I think alot of this has to do with madden believe it or not. Buying the NFL license made so many gamers angry with limiting their choices in the sport. Many have to realize that the NFL put the license up for sale it really had noting to do with EA.

Anyway the truth is that EA is not the worst company in the world, maybe the worst gaming company in the world, but there are plenty of compnies out there far worst than EA that hurt the people in a far more serious matter.

Agree. I don't like EA much as a gaming company, but no way would I say they are the worst company in the world.

EA's impact towards me is with gaming. Other companies hurt me with my way of survivng and raising my family. That is far more important than gaming.

                .
I think most aren't mad they have the license (Like I posted earlier, Blame the NFL and EA did the smart thing), but rather they did diddly poo with it or ESPN license.
Sort of like they crapped on NASCAR license also. Many more companies worse that EA however...many more.

I think you all overestimate how many people cared about NFL 2K5 and that exclusive deal that took place.

and they're still stupid for voting EA the worst company in America. They should be ashamed of themselves.

but wait, Mass Effect 3's ending sucked. Nevermind then. EA is the devil.

Meh, it was bound to happen...If I understand right, it was an online poll, and who is surfing around online (and voting in these things) more than gamers? Had they done the survey exclusively in bars or high-end restaurants, the results would most assuredly have been different...

Yea I agree with that. It is simply entertainment. There are dozens of companies that are doing much worse to humanity. (Cough Cough Monsanto)

                        Pepsi
                        Coca-Cola
                        McDonald's

But the video game company is the devil. Wake up America.

I had to chime in on this being a avid EA basher. Well not really anymore, I've smartened up and flat out dont buy their games very often.

What I think this poll respresents is the long term effect EA had on its initial fanbase that grew up with them since the Sega days. They've crushed the competition by buying out every license and developer that they could get ahold of and this doesn't just include sports games. With many of the dev companies they do end up buying, they're completely rebuilt and turned cookie cutter style. Just the way EA likes it.

Not many of us in here a business savvy but are smart enough to know when you're getting jerked out of your hard earned money. No other company IMO is better at jerking its consumers than EA. There has been countless things mentioned in here already. Its to the point where research is a necessity whenever you buy a game nowadays. Its the EA effect.

Yep. Probably has more to do with Mass Effect 3 than 2K5. A lot of people who play games now barely know what 2K5 was.

One probably does research before he buys any other entertainment good such as a computer, MP3 player, DVD movie, tablet, cell phone, music album, television, etc. etc. to determine relative quality of available goods in the category. Why should video games be any different? When were video games ever any different?

It's a video game company's job to produce a game and convince a consumer that the game is worth buying. It's not the video game company's job to make that purchasing decision for the consumer. People act as if EA holds all the cards here; they really don't. EA isn't jerking people out of money; those unhappy with EA are spending their money poorly.
