What made EA back in the day was quality over everyone else. You couldn't compare a game like Lakers vs. Celtics with a Tecmo Basketball or Tony Larrusa Baseball with RBI 94. The difference in quality (not fun factor) was night and day. This is what they built their brand on. Flash forward to today, its the exact opposite.

So yes, I do or did expect a certain quality from EA or anything EA related. They were fine up until the early 2000s when they must have realized that they can sell water to a well. They been testing the market and seeing what we'll pay for, what we'll stand for and what excuses they can drop on us ever since. All while at the same time scaling back on game production. I was a fan. I diehard fan of EA till sites like this shed some light.
So then Nintendo should never publish a bad game, right? Or Konami? Or Capcom? Come on. That's silly.

BTW, in terms of introducing new IP, EA has done an amazing job this generation. Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Rockband, Dragon Age, Shadows of the Damned, Left 4 Dead (they get credit for publishing since it's apparently their fault if a game isn't good), Deathspank, Bulletstorm, Crysis, and others were all brand new IP introduced in the last few years. Can you say the same for Nintendo? Ubi? Konami? In fact, if you made a list of ALL new IPs released this gen, I'd feel pretty certain that EA has published more than their fair share of new properties. It's certainly more than Ubi (Assassin's Creed and...?), Konami (?), Capcom (?), and some of the other big publishers.

Blind brand support or dislike is immature and silly. Support games you like or devs you trust. It's 2012. If you buy a bad game, it's your own fault.

This crap is stupid. An entertainment company should NEVER be near a list of "worst companies in America". NEVER.

They helped publish one of the more under rated games this gen in Brutal Legend. And Rock Band has some of the best support of any game out there right now. Can't really call EA the worst company IMO. EA was just a bandwagon pick on this poll to me.

I feel you man. Whether I like it not I will own a EA brand game at some point. Dont really have any agenda against them or their games. I'm not gone front though, my disdain for them stems simply from the EA Sports brand. I'm willing to bet that a nice portion of people who voted has the same type of loathing I have. What they did still shocks me. I cant even enjoy the genre like I used to. We can say the NFL approached them with the deal...whatever. The timing still sucked. Doesn't really matter who got hurt in the end, business is business, right?

EA Sports raised me man. They raised me.. The current situation with what used to be a passion of mine is still stinging 7 years later. They've yet to impress me or the tons of fans who've been begging them to step it up for almost a decade. Dont get me wrong, the games that they publish are usually dope but they treat they're sports divisions like trash. So this thread IMO is where the general consensus of EA is at this point. They beat out a bank and a oil company. LMAO. I had no idea that gamers had so much hatred in their hearts.

Man I must be a terrible person. 90 percent of my joy in gaming comes from games with EA on the cover. I'll gladly keep giving money to EA for their games and DLC for certain games. Yeah they make some mistakes, but I think a lot of them get overblown by people who look for any reason at all to hate EA.

Slightly more deserving following the SimCity debacle but still...they're not even the worst video game related company.

                    Worst company is laughable.

When it comes to video games, though, when I see the EA logo I simply don't buy the game.

Re: EA voted Worst Company In America For 2012

I think it's somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but I doubt that most people really truly think that EA is the actual worst company in America...I think that they might be responding to the company that their own personal relationship with is seemingly the worst. And also just trying to make a point to the company that a lot of people have beef with. I know we can listen to arguments all day long about how many other companies on the list do much worse things, and those arguments are likely mostly correct. But the point is that most people don't feel like their relationship to a company that engaged in high-risk subprime mortgage backed securities trading without understanding the risks and resulting in a near collapse of the banking system is - at a personal level - all that terrible. I go to the bank, I put my money in, I get it out from the ATM's...in essence, I'm getting the service I expect from those limited transactions. Now, of course people probably should be angrier about a company that engaged in corportate or civic malefeasance, but for whatever reasons they don't feel those things personally. But the fact that EA is even in the running, let alone the "winner" two years in a row, suggests that they have a very poor relationship with their customers and are viewed overwhelmingly negatively (by those that chose to respond to such a survey, anyway). Another easy way to see that their relationship with their consumers is tenuous, at best, is by simply looking at their stock price....

Anyway, no matter what, it's funny. And in the end, that's really all that matters...

CM Hooe had an explanation in the thread on this in the Madden forum that I agree 100% with.

Long story short - sampling bias. A rather loud, vocal contingent of video gamers having their say on an internet poll.

Of course, you can probably imagine the responses he got...
