    Crysis 3

It very much looks like Crysis 3 is real, then. Eurogamer have spotted several images of various boxed editions on Origin, and some box art of a nano-suited soldier posing with a bow, of all things. The prospect of taking on an army of gun-toting soldiers with a piece of medieval weaponry is certainly appealing, hopefully the suit comes with a MAXIMUM SHOW-OFF mode to go with it.It looks as

Apparently Crysis 3 box art and an ad banner were leaked on EA's Origin today. If this is true, I really hope this doesn't turn out to be another Crysis 2 with horrible patch support and a boring, linear gameplay.

Crysis 3 game announcement most likely coming on April 16th. Crytek Founder Cevat Yerli said this on his Twitter:

It seams, the best kept secret in #shooters just can't be contained Stay tuned for more information on April 16.

I didnt find Crysis 2 boring, but I can see why you felt that way. It wasn't nothing special either.

    It was a decent game.

I will give crysis 3 a shot. I will try out the demo and see how it feels.

      Re: Crysis 3

I didn't find Crysis 2 boring either, I thought it was a good game. However after playing Crysis after it came out for consoles I can see why people were upset with some of the changes in Crysis 2 and I prefer Crysis 1. I did think there were some things that Crysis 2 did better, but thought Crysis 1 was the better game and has more re-playability. The last 1/3 or so of Crysis 1 was sub-par and was extremely linear, though. That downgraded the game slightly for me, because the rest of the game was fantastic.

I would like to see them move back towards more of the freedom offered in the first Crysis 1 (at least the level of freedom offered in the first 2/3rds of the game), with Crysis 3. I would actually prefer to see Crysis 3 as a launch title for the next consoles. I think the current consoles are probably too limited to improve significantly upon Crysis 2.

        Looks like its official.

Players take on the role of ‘Prophet’ as he returns to New York, only to discover that the city has been encased in a Nanodome created by the corrupt Cell Corporation. The New York City Liberty Dome is a veritable urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers. Within the Liberty Dome, seven distinct and treacherous environments become known as the Seven Wonders. This dangerous new world demands advanced weapons and tactics. Prophet will utilize a lethal composite bow, an enhanced Nanosuit and devastating alien tech to become the deadliest hunter on the planet.

Crysis was a fantastic game, but the second game didn't quite pull me in. I do want to go back and try it again, maybe my mind will change on Crysis 2. Crysis 3 looks to blend the first 2 games together which could be neat.

Hopefully Crysis 3 goes back to the open world format that the original Crysis had. I hated the linear gameplay of Crysis 2.

Sounds interesting. That bow is pretty sweet, stealth with the bow should be fun. Seems like there going for a blend between the first and second game, which is fine by me since I enjoyed both of them. I do hope it is closer to Crysis 1 though, in terms of freedom offered.

I couldn't force my way through even half of Crysis 2... something about it just didn't do it for me.

Not gonna lie though... that's a badass cover and makes me want to play this

                  Re: Crysis 3

More from an interview that was put up before an embargo:

With Crysis 3 we wanted to combine the best aspects of Crysis 1 and 2 and add on top of that. You can certainly say that it builds on the foundation of the series - we have a lot of the wide gameplay from the original Crysis and a lot of the verticality of Crysis 2 and that we combine in a really stellar and beautifully unique setting – the New York City Liberty Dome that introduces the Seven Wonders and creates a real urban rainforest complete with jungles, swamps, grasslands, canyons and more.
There is no primary weapon but the bow is a cool new addition and it goes well with the whole concept of going back to the roots which is a theme that resonates across the game. There are plenty more cool new weapons in the game – and this time, you will even be able to use alien weaponry. That’s pretty fantastic.
There are several new traditional weapons but more interestingly is the fact that you’ll be able to fire Ceph weapons. This really adds a cool new flair to the look and feel of the game. Also as mentioned earlier there is a bow featured which you can equip with several types of arrows – both stealthy and loud as hell.
In terms of enemies you’ll be fighting both humans and aliens – with several brand new Ceph archetypes having been added to the mix as well as the oldies having undergone severe adjustments to fit them into the context of the urban rainforest.

I'd like to see it get back to what Crysis 1 was like. I only got halfway through with Crysis 2 before I stopped. Not a bad game, but I just thought Crysis 1 was a lot better. I enjoyed having the more open space.

EDGE Preview: Crysis 3 Heading back to the jungle

Crysis proved that the right setting could elevate a shooter, and Crysis 2 confirmed that the wrong setting can just as easily undermine one. On the original’s island paradise, riddled with sandy cliffs and 5km draw distances, a job lot of guns and a hi-tech Nanosuit came together to create an action game in which you could set your own pace and choose your own path. In the sequel’s war-torn New York, however, with rubble clogging every intersection and skyscraper canyons blocking out the sky, you were ceaselessly funnelled from one set-piece to the next. The mechanics hadn’t changed much, but the environment wasn’t playing along any more. Predator became commuter.

Crysis 3 suggests that Crytek’s eager to make amends. The series’ third instalment hasn’t ditched Manhattan, but it’s rolled the clock forward 20 years and changed the landscape beyond measure. Buildings have fallen, streets have been split apart, and nature’s forced its way back onto the island. Trees rise through the husks of brownstones, rivers flow along Fifth Avenue, and Times Square has become a savannah of rustcoloured grasslands. The jungle has claimed the city. Crytek’s back in its comfort zone.
Crysis 3 will be a mix of limited, very vertical sandboxes, and much more open locations. Definitely, though, we’re going back to our roots and making you feel part of a larger environment.”

That larger environment is the Liberty Dome of 2047, a hi-tech exclusion zone that resembles a futuristic Centre Parcs. All of Manhattan is nestled inside the structure, which has been built by the corrupt CELL organisation. Officially, it’s meant to keep the world safe from the bedraggled remnants of the Ceph – the alien invaders who were meant to have been wiped out at the end of Crysis 2. At the start of Crysis 3, however, Prophet, who has spent the last two decades in prison, breaks free from captivity and heads back to the city to investigate. Once inside, he finds that the Ceph are regrouping, and that CELL is still meddling with humanity’s future.
                            ...

Crytek plans on showing players “the seven wonders of New York”, according to Yerli, and they range from lakes and forests to canyons and rolling plains.
The bow is the first Crysis weapon that you can fire while cloaked without draining extra energy, and it’s a tool that Crytek hopes will shape player behaviour. “There wasn’t really any stealth weaponry over range in the first games,” argues senior creative director Rasmus Højengaard, “but beyond that, the bow reminds you that the feel of things is super-important. In order to act badass, you need to feel badass. If you don’t feel like that from the get-go, you approach the game all wrong. You play differently when you feel meek, but if you pull out this bow and it looks awesome, that changes you. We never underestimate the power of perception.”
A few minutes into the demo, entirely new aliens turn up, too. First, there are floating drones that remove Prophet’s camouflage, alerting nearby foot soldiers to his location, and then there are scuttling quadruped fire turrets known internally as Scorchers. “It’s an attempt to create more variety in the AI, and more variety within a single character,” explains senior development director Jan Lechner. “The Scorcher has a defensive state in which it’s hard to apply damage, and then an open state, where he uses his fire weapon to apply area-of-effect stuff. He can swipe you out of cover, and there’s also some limited fire propagation.”

When stealth’s not an option, using the bow’s explosive arrows is almost shamefully entertaining, but the Nanosuit’s also been given a few offensive upgrades, too. It can now hack into alien technology, turning a Ceph turret on its allies, and it allows Prophet to finally use alien weaponry such as the plasma rifle and heavy mortar, both of which light up the jungle with firework projectile animations and prove more effective against the Ceph than traditional guns.
The degree of control over the landscape that Crytek’s new approach allows for means that the team no longer has to stick to a tourist’s itinerary. This time, in fact, the action moves location based on the emotional beats of the campaign. “Instead of deciding which streets to pick for a sequence based on mere location, we can say, ‘OK, we want a level with a horror theme – which part of our New York would fit that?’” says Højengaard. “In Crysis, you only had two varieties [of terrain]: pre- and post-alien invasion. Now there are seven distinct landscapes, and they help us to tell a more involving story.”
