    Re: Watch Dogs

I am on the final mission of the campaign and this mission is insane...I've almost threw my Windows 360 controller across the room twice....

But I can't stop playing it because I love this game so much....

Man, did a trailing mission. Thought this guy was trying to out run me. Nope. He's at "the bridge". Probably the worst case scenario for me. I follow him thru, get out the car without even trying to hide it since I didn't have time. ID'd him as he made his way back in his vehicle as he probably was just alerted he was being invaded. Hid in the brush like a G.

Then I hit the highway to celebrate my victory.

After I died, it kicked me back to free roam, where I went to start another Online Hacking mission. However I was unable to. I then noticed what the menu read when selecting which sort of Online Mission you wanted to play. It told me I needed to complete the Online Hacking introduction mission to gain access. At first I thought it was just a load error, so I restarted. But to no avail. I then noticed other issues. I lost my weapons and my skills. They were still visible as unlocked on the tree, but I couldn't use any of them. I.E had the door unlock skill, but Aiden would still break the window to get into the car.

After some diligent internet searching, and failed backup attempts, if I want to do these things, I'm going to have to play the game again, which I have no desire to do. Ubisoft says they are aware of the issue, but of course have no idea how to fix it on the back end.

Pretty disappointing. Probably going to just trade it in tonight for Wolfenstein.

You didn't have backup files saved in the cloud?

I'm wondering if those that gave up on this game even gave the storyline a try. once you get past Act I you find yourself in some intense firefights. I"m liking this story.

I'm going to attempt a possible fix this evening that relates to using the backup cloud saves.

Found this late last night. Really hoping it fixes it:

I don't care too much for the side stuff, but the story itself has become a bit more interesting. I just sat and played an hour and didn't even realize it.

The grenade launcher has made my life so much easier. I also started using a silenced pistol for most of my day to day activities. There's less hassle with wasting comms jammers on snitches.

I was following the old saying "snitches get stitches.... or bullets".

I'm glad I decided to stay in and play.

Other than the AR and Fixer Contracts I've cleared the initial section of the map and I've yet to fire a gun.

Apparently when you're in pursuit of an armed criminal and somebody calls the cops you're the suspect that the cops go after - not the armed criminal. Fun times.

What Act are you on ? I guess I'm just lazy and prefer shooting most dudes.

Some of the missions in the first Act basically required for me to fire on some dudes, but I rarely ever use an AR.

I just hacked ctOS for the second section of the map in the campaign. I think I'm on the 4th or 5th mission.

                              Re: Watch Dogs

The game's online is great, but also leaves a lot to be desired. The flaws IMO are that a player can know they are being invaded quite easily, getting a notification you're being hacked takes the fun out of it, and it's too easy to profile people.

                              My suggestions would be:

Don't ever tell a player they are being invaded.

If they start a mission, fast travel, etc, give the offensive hacker an option to (1) wait for player to be available or (2) find another player. It's too easy to just start running around like a chicken with its head cut off as soon as you're being invaded. So don't ever let the victim know they are being invaded, regardless of what they do. Even make the world continue if you pause in single player so they can't use that trick. And if a player enters a mission or something mid-hack, give the hacker reduced points for based on % for getting however far he got whether it be 35%, 4%, 88%, etc

                              ---

Don't openly tell a player they are being hacked.

As soon as they see the % meter they start freaking out. It kinda takes the fun out of it, from a stealth point of view. My idea would be to not give them the % meter unless they figure out on their own that they're being hacked. Make their environmental hacks not work, other stuff in their phone not work, etc. Then, they can have a prompt (button combo) to find the % and the location (purple circle). It makes them have to always be on their toes. If they aren't paying attention, then it's an easy win.

                              ---

                              Make profiling harder.

Right now, when you're getting hacked, all you have to do is have your profiler cursor pass over the hacker and it ends the hack. I say make the player have to press a button to profile someone (different each time--square one time, x another, R1 another, etc) and decrease the distance you need to profile someone. As it is right now, hiding in a crowd of people or "blending in" is not an option. If you do that, you'll get profiled right away.

On the other hand, don't highlight the victim in purple. Make the hacker have to actually seek out and find the victim (with a given description) via profiling before they can start the hack. Once it's started, maybe the hacker can have a GPS location for the phone to know the location, but still get rid of the purple highlighting.

Also, if a hacker is hiding in a car with the "hide in car" function, he should be difficult to spot/profile.

Conversely, the hacker should have to be within a certain distance of the hackee a la online tailing. If the hackee tries to escape, the purple circle can change/disappear based on the location of the hacker. This could create a high speed chase or even a shootout, which could be really fun.

Obviously for that, the game should let either player kill the other. So If the hacker kills the hackee, they each get minimal points (hackee gets points for stopping the hack/spotting the hacker, hacker gets points for eliminating the hackee--but if hacker kills the hackee before being spotted, no one gets points). And if the hackee kills the hacker, he gets the points. You should be rewarded more for eliminating the hacker, rather than just getting away

With these ideas, it would change the way players do online hacking. Players would have to choose carefully when they begin the hack, as to not be detected. You don't want to start the hack on someone who is currently on their phone profiling other people. Potential victims would have to blend in as well, because they must be profiled before a hack begins. If they blend in well enough, the hack might never even begin.
