    Downloading it now, too!!

Will play Thur/Fri night, and really enjoy this game regardless (unless freezing / glitches literally impede my progress, I'll get over it).

Then it's ME2 for Platinum, and ME3 for the first time after that.

I'm pretty excited about this having only played the middle game.

I played 2 and 3 and it felt kind of incomplete. I never felt fully immersed as part one is major to flow into part two. So much back story I know I missed. The comic was alright but nothing like having the chance to immerse myself into the complete trilogy!

      Pumped to say the least.

        A guy's impressions on GAF:

So I got up to walking around the Citadel. Here's some quick observations from a PSN copy downloaded on a 7200RPM 500gb HDD:

+ Indeed it's very surreal playing this on a PS3!
+ Just feels smoother overall than 360 version.
+ They reduced the overdone motionblur. Reduced or maybe they couldn't replicate it, I don't know for sure
+ That texture flicker that you would see on Geth models in some cinemas (like the white one) on Eden Prime is seemingly gone. Interesting nip/tuck as I always remember being there on both the 360 and PC versions.
+ Some kind of AA? I don't remember the edges being so smoothed over
+ Trophies are a match for the 360 achievements, complete with their own menu/unlocks like before
+ 7.1 audio sounds pretty good!
+ Auto saves now do take longer
+ Once again, overall image/UI is nice and crisp!
+ Some PC textures used? IE: Sheperd's hair stubble
        + Vsync!
+ Dreaded UE3 texture pop is now almost entirely gone! Like I only saw one instant of it thus far during a cinema. Non during gameplay, not even during Equipment/Weapon menu transitions Now, it fades in ala Gears of War 2.
+ Elevator loadtimes seem like they're only as long as the audio clips that play over them
+ The Random loading halts when running around the Citadel are still here =/
+ Framerate still get's dicey in stressful spots like heavy firefights and the Citadel. To be fair, I remember my desktop though couldn't even run the open districts of the Citadel at a locked 60fps.

I still want to make it up to the effects heavy planets like Noveria to see how the framerate holds up.

Overall though, at this point I'm thinking it's safe to declare this to be the definitive console version of Mass Effect 1. Edge of Reality should be commended for successfully bringing over what was a technical mess on the 360.

If anyone just picks up a used copy of ME2 or ME3 for the 360 I have the Cerberus code for ME2 and the online pass for ME3. Wanted to get all three games in one package but already have the codes from when I originally bought the games.

Back to the Beginning: Bringing Mass Effect to PS3

I’m Ryan Warden, the External Producer for Mass Effect Trilogy. I’ve been with BioWare for almost nine years now – lately I’ve been working to help bring you Mass Effect Trilogy for PlayStation 3, and today I’m honored to be able to write a post for PlayStation.Blog!

We began work on Mass Effect Trilogy in earnest last April, shortly after Mass Effect 3 had shipped. The trilogy was complete, but there was a slight complication — there were people who had missed out on one (or more) titles in the series. Clearly this included PS3 owners, who had never had the chance to play the original Mass Effect. Mass Effect Trilogy was a great opportunity to rectify that!

We partnered with Edge of Reality, an external team with whom we’ve worked on many previous projects. Edge of Reality has a deep understanding of how PS3 works, under the hood, so we thought the project would be a perfect fit. We had a huge head start because of the work we had done with Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 for PS3, but we still wanted to maintain the look and feel – the classic experience – of the original Mass Effect.
“We got some huge gains in performance.”

We tinkered with the audio engine, and with the way that memory was allocated to various chunks of the game. We brought over some lighting and visual effects improvements from Mass Effect 2 and 3, and combined them with the original Mass Effect systems. In essence, we invited the Wu Tang Clan to a rap battle… and it paid off. We got some huge gains in performance – especially with regard to texture popping, which has been dramatically improved – yet we were still able to maintain the classic look and feel of the introduction to the Mass Effect universe.

At the end of my first playthrough during development, I saw a scene that had once been so familiar – the Normandy jumps to FTL, the screen fades to black, and That Song kicks in. I had sat through this scene countless times during the development of Mass Effect. Every single time, the delay-soaked guitar of Faunts’ “M4 Part II” put a grin on my face, just like the first time I saw it. I’m lucky that I got to relive the eight years of my life that I’ve spent working on the Mass Effect series. And now PS3 owners can experience the full trilogy for the first time.

You can finally create your Shepard at the beginning of Mass Effect, and bring that same character through the rest of the series. You can stand on the moon, drive the Mako across an asteroid, chase a rogue Spectre to the edges of the galaxy, and deliver right hooks to your heart’s content. Then you can pop the Mass Effect 2 disc in the tray.

I’m really proud of the work that the team has done to bring Mass Effect Trilogy to the PS3, and I can’t wait for you to play through the whole series. I hope you enjoy it!

I'll be downloading Mass Effect tonight. I'm not an RPG guy (played a couple of Zelda games, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and the first Final Fantasy game, but that's it) but this game sounds like it'd be one that I would enjoy.

Hopefully I'll get hooked and will download 2 & 3 after I finish the first game.

Put the money aside. I couldn't even get through Zelda, and I wouldn't trade Mass Effect for anything!

Right where you guys are, and yes ... that's happened to me too. Funny, because I've reloaded when that happened, and it was fine, so there's no specific lines of dialogue. Just random occurences.

GREAT game already. Having to make sense of how to upgrade my weapon, not use too much medi-gel, etc. It's all quite different from ME2, so it's taking me longer to adjust than I thought. But worth the effort!

                              Open for advice on ME1
