    Re: Day Z

This weeks status update from Brain Hicks, my favorite in bold.

    Greetings Survivors!

As we move forward with January’s stable branch update (0.53) the focus of the gameplay programming and production teams is primarily on security. As mentioned prior in the September 15 Status Report - only so much can be done in tandem with engine and gameplay changes coming with every update (and maintain a rapid update frequency to stable branch). That said, as the primary vulnerability on the security side for DayZ right now is less on engine and/or scripting and more on modifying/accessing the process memory we have several Q1 goals we are aiming to complete.

Deployment of a new form of BattlEye
This has been delayed to allow testing/regression around any potential bugs and/or compatibility issues so as not to cause any major issues to those participating in Early Access
Server side sanity checks and protection against certain currently exploited methods
Closer work with Valve and the VAC team
This will initially be seen by allowing players to report in-game suspected cheaters and will expand from there to a program that best fits DayZ and how it operates
Expanded vigilance in reporting all known tools and methods currently used to access the DayZ process for less than honorable methods.
Beyond that, Q1 has a good deal of exciting work for DayZ. Be it work on the new infected AI, to implementation of the central economy or diseases - this should be an exciting few months.
On the note of work to come, I’d like to expand upon confusion around persistence - how it is intended to operate, and the role that weekly persistence wipes currently serve.

Persistence is a core pillar of DayZ and its design. Currently persistence functionality is tied to the incomplete economy functions. As we expand upon the systems surrounding the central economy - What is saved/How it is saved, Cleanup, Respawn, etc will be handled properly. In addition to that, the secondary cause of persistence wipes (issues with reading modifiers on saved items, improperly saved items, etc) can be addressed.
Once we have addressed these two issues, persistence can and will be moved from an “opt-in” feature, to a core function of DayZ - and something that is universal across all servers. Once this is complete, I personally look forward to truly seeing the “camp/base building” side of the title start to be more universally adopted. Be it vehicles, barricaded buildings, tents, containers, or even farms setup via horticulture.

In addition, if you have any questions surrounding this topic (or any others) - I encourage you to head over to the Developer Discussion subforums at the official DayZ forums. Eugen and myself both are accessible via the Service section.

I wish I could bundle a microphone with every copy of DayZ.
    - Brian Hicks / Lead Producer

I just picked this up this weekend after reading through this thread. I'm still learning the ropes, learning to read maps, going in every house 😂, ect, but wouldn't mind joining up with some people to increase my survival odds.

I will add you on my Steam tonight; we should definitely start an OS clan for DayZ, especially since base building is coming soon.

We use Teamspeak. If you set it up correctly, its the perfect voice program to use for DayZ.

DayZ in game chat is caps lock. If you set Teamspeak to mute its self when caps lock is held then you can talk the entire time to your buddy but when you need to talk in game you just hold caps lock.

              Re: Day Z

Well last night I was on a 48 player server and **** was intense! Short version of this story.

I was scavenging at night (sun was rising) with my new character when I came across a police station all lite up. So like a bug I was attracted to the light. I was standing looking around a fence when I took this picture (with my cell phone, I texted it to my cousin is reason I did not use in game screen shot). So right as I was snapping this a round hits right by me. So I take off running to flank around to see if I can sneak up on these guys.

So as I flanked around, I could barely make out a couple guys on the roof. Its hard to make it out in this picture BUT evidently what they were doing is using the light as bait to draw in guys to kill. It almost worked lol

I also do a lot of 24/7 day servers because for some reason most times when its night nothing works. Everything is black, my flash light (Even when on) doesnt light up anything. Very weird.

That sounds like a GPU driver issue. I would check your video card for updated drivers, also try down playing your graphics to just normal. Sometimes all the post processing effects can screw things up, so turn off all post processing effects and set everything else to normal.

Will try that. I was just on and found some stuff, a mousin with a silencer. No ammo though. There was also a shotgun there but chose the mousin instead. I got a baseball Bat, a Shock rod, Tripod Cooking kit, Bandages, some anitbiotics, soda, beans, Medical Wire, a Map and some seeds. Not sure what most of this stuff is used for but oh well. Lol.

I never have luck with ammo. Im in some city along the coast. Its about medium size and has a train station in it with a giant warehouse near the water. Not real sure where I am though but I guess the map can help. I am also cold and shaking and have no clue how to warm up other than running around outside.

I didnt encounter any zombies but that is mainly because there was a group of three running through the city. I kept my distance and moves through the city behind them as they cleaned everything up. I went door to door and scavenged what they ran past, lol. Towards the end I saw 2 of the 3 turn around and I took off into a house. Im not sure if they seen me or not but I closed the doors and layed prone next to the bed, lol. Someone ran into the room I was in but must of not seen me and left. I then proceeded to log out. XD

Screw the in game maps. Join this group.
iZurvive provides you with the best maps for DayZ Standalone (up to date for DayZ 1.28 Release Version for PC, PS4 and Xbox) with loot positions, lets you place tactical markers on it and automatically shares those markers with the friends in your group.

                        Group Name = OS DayZ
                        Secret = operationsports

Add markers when you find your location and it makes finding each other and meeting up much easier. Just mark a meeting point on the map and everyone can see markers put down.

Thegut, did you end up surviving last night?

I ended up running across a survivor, then out of no where 5 more guys came out. All 6 surrounded me and started talking smack. They told me to run towards a zombie, so I told them hell no. Then one guy with a red bandana face mask walked up to me and said "You are the same guy I killed earlier". To which I responded, "I have not died in a while". Then he put his shotgun in my face and blew my head off as they all stood surrounding me.

Them boys were running as a 6 man squad. It was a pretty badass sight to be honest, even though I was killed I was laughing my *** off.

                              Re: Day Z

I had a pretty great moment last night.

I joined a high pop server with a friend and decided to travel through Elecktro to meet up with him at the Lumber Factory, right as I entered Elecktro, I ran into a scripter who started to split all of my supplies and made my character randomly bandage himself.

After being killed by him a few minutes later, I respawned just north of Berenzino. While making my way down, I see a geared character come out of nowhere. She sounded friendly, offered me food and talked a bit to me about scripters on the server. As I went to eat the food, I get shot by two different people, who were camping near by. Then I hear the person who set me up saying, sorry, sorry, we just want flesh to eat.

10 minutes later, I'm running towards Rify as another new spawn. While on the boat, I run into the same person again. She starts off by saying the same stuff and I immediately respond with, "oh no you witch, I'm not falling for this again, I trusted you before and you lied." Her response was just hilarious, "oh it's you again... look I'm sorry, truly I am.. we won't kill you again, I swear. Look I'll leave food by the front of the boat and I'll leave."

A few minutes go by of us going back and forth of me continuing to state my distrust, and she actually ends up getting lost on the boat. During this time I told her I know this boat like the back of my palm, and I end up behind her with the perfect chance to kill her, when out of nowhere her friend appears again and shots me once. Instead of being easy prey for them, I decide to take away their pleasure of killing new spawns by trying to jump to my death, however for the first time I could remember, I did not die jumping from the boat, instead, I break my arm and legs and end up just laying there. I start to talk smack to them, and they all run up to me with their guns pointed, I end up just saying "kill me, I have nothing else to prove as a new spawn, kill me."

A few minutes of silence goes by (obviously they were on team speak or skype) and one of the guys starts talking, "Actually, we'll let you live." They all walk up to me, ask if anything is broken and literally craft and apply splints on my character, they also fed me, gave me water, new shoes (who carries shoes around?) and finally left by leaving me a shotgun with 12 rounds of ammo. I sat there stunned, they apologized for killing me earlier, saying they were bored of fighting and dying to scripters and that they just wanted to have some fun with new spawns. I told them no hard feelings, I was glad to actually have interactions like that versus a scripter anyway. They eventually logged off.

I don't know, I was so pleased with that sequence.

Yep I'm still surviving. I was attack by two bandits in the military barracks just south of the NW airfield. I killed one of the bandits with a SKS I just found and I never saw the other bandit but heard them talking to one another. I booked it west and the other bandit fired a couple of shots at me but he ended up not pursuing me.

I really lucked out because if they got to me two minutes before hand I would have had to fight my way out with a splitting ax but the DayZ gods smiled on me and I found that SKS and 5 bullets. Evened the odds a bit
