Well last night I managed to cure my sickness with a Saline IV bag. My cousin was able to meet up with me in Novy Sobor and administered the bag.

Right after getting the IV we head out for Stary Sobor to hit the medical facility & grocery store. While sneaking up on the grocery store, a survivor comes running out the grocery store. As soon as he saw us he turned the opposite way running down the street. I told my cousin "We have to go that way......I don't want to risk running into this guy down the street". So I laid down, trained my 95 blaze on him sprinting down the street. My shot landed square in the back, he winced when I hit him and he turned to get behind cover. I then let ring out my second shot but couldn't tell if I hit him on the second shot. We moved slowly to see if we could find his body but never could find a trace of him. He was a lucky SOB!!!!!!!!!!!

We then made our way to the north airfield. Upon entering, we took our time and found a bunch of ammo & weapons. We then were climbing up the multistory building when I found a box of 9mm ammo. My cousin needed it so I was throwing it down on the ground when my screen went black, then I hear him say "You just dropped to the ground..............oh **** someone is shooting..........DAMN I'm dead.

I'm guessing we were sniped by a Mosin sniper. He would of only had line of sight by the windows. 30+ hours of character development down the drain........like canes said "That's DayZ for you".

So I didn't have it in me to start a new character last night, but this morning I got up early before work to get a little time in and managed to gear up pretty quick. Gearing up and going to be a bandit this run through!!

Phobia, with that 5-day journal you posted, you may have single-handedly sold DayZ for me when it comes out on the PS4.
      That was an epic summary.

I'm a terrible story teller LOL. Playing it with a buddy is something special though.

Servers having persistent storage has changed this game for me. I already have 100s of hours in it and I'm not even slowing down my play time thanks in part to the persistent storage. The last few days of playing have been my buddy and I trekking through the northern part of the map camping out during night time and exploring during the day.

If it raims, we find shelter and wait it out. We've been killing animals, cooking meat, just surviving. We're not hunting for kills, we're just doing what we can to keep living and load up. We're searching for a tent right now. Once we find it, we'll set up camp somewhere deep in the woods and create a stockpile of guns, ammo, and food. We might even stock up on clothing.

Building up a huge inventory is just as fun as a shootout for me. Exploring towns that are new, finding new items, and trtrying out new mechanics are what make this game special. The best part is the fact it keeps growing each months, and is changing more month to momth than most yearly titles do year to year.

Persistent servers are both great and terrible. For a built up character then persistent servers really fulfills the role playing side of the game, but for a new character it can mean slow death off the coast. All the food and water gobbled up along the coast or stashed in safe houses can mean a fresh spawn struggling to survive the opening hour.

Now I agree I'm hoping for persistence to get fleshed out more, once base building is added (boarding up windows, houses, etc), plus the farming side for food, hunting, better animal AI, and better zombie AI, then this game can get really crazy.

Seems like you need some middle ground where new chars can improve, but also benefit vets

If you have the PC capable of running it, even on medium settings, I'd say you should get it on PC. Mainly because A: the controls would be a lot more simpler than on any controller (mainly because of the inventory for loot) and B: if you buy the alpha, even with all it's bugs, it'll still be cheaper than the $60 retail price that it will sell for when completed.

Once servers are both persistent and loot respawns, I think the balance will be there.

I am really looking forward to the base building and more advanced ai in animals. I can see myself just hunting and having a base. PvP is just icing on the cake for me.

                      Re: Day Z

I just had the most intense PvP battle since I started playing this game back when it was a mod.

I'm in a little isolated town in the north-eastern part of the map, far away from the coast. I'm scavenging outside a house when a random player pops up out of nowhere, completely taking me by surprise. I have a Repeater rifle with 10 bullets, so when the player sees me, he immediately starts saying "friendly, don't shoot!".

The guy doesn't appear to be armed, however he's charging towards me with his hands in the air. Trying to diffuse the situation, I ask him "what's your name?". He answers "My name is Nemo". I'm backing up, trying to keep my distance, when all of a sudden he starts swiping at him with his axe. At this point I open fire with my repeater, however seeing as it's a single fire weapon, I'm having a hard time hitting him since he's so close.

I fire off a good 10 bullets while he's hitting me with his axe, when I finally land a shot and break his legs. Both of us are bleeding profusely at this point; I back off him since he has no mobility and bandage myself. We're now about 20 feet apart staring at each other, I aim my gun to finish him off but I'm out of bullets. I ask him "Why did you have to do that?". He doesn't answer. It was a pretty awkward moment, however I sure as hell wasn't going to let him get away with what he did.

I begin to run off as if I'm done with the confrontation; however I circle around the guy, who is laying prone on the ground at this point, by moving around buildings. I manage to flank him and pull out my axe to try and finish him off. Horrible lag ensues; my hits are not landing and he somehow turns around and starts swiping at me. Both of us are teeing off on one another when finally he drops dead. He managed to break my arm, but I stole most of his stuff.

He had a military vest on him and a handgun with no ammo. I tried to replenish some of my health by eating a raw deer steak, by I think my guy's developed an infection because of it (the sick icon has popped up). Next time I'll be trying to scavenge up the materials to make a splint.

I've started to play Dayz again (honestly because I couldn't even get H1Z1 to launch). I've been enjoying myself. I'm playing solo right now without my wife and it definitely changes the game for me. The game is still as clunky as it's ever been (honestly a problem more with the arma engine) but it definitely feels brutal out in the world now and it's nice not to be randomly killed by a rock or a ladder anymore.

I haven't shot at a real enemy person in so many weeks that I don't know what to do. My buddy and I just got shot at by some dude at the NW airfield. My buddy got shot 4 times within a second. He died. Somehow I made it out alive, taking one shot, but never actually bleeding. I probably ran 2 miles before I stopped. The guy kept shooting me, but somehow lost his accuracy on me after being so dead on with my buddy.

We've decided to meet up again with his new character and we're going to stop focusing on looting and we're basically going to be bandits. We both need practice aiming. I haven't killed anyone who wasn't laying down unarmed in probably a few months. We've been too focused on looting and trying out all the different mechanics and whatnot.

That is changing though. We're going back to the old bandit ways we used to have. The nights of killing 7 or 8 guys without them ever knowing we were there. We've gotten too fast paced and unaware of our surroundings lately. We're going back to the very slow, stalking ways we used to play with. We might not cover a lot of map, but we'll definitely live for a long time and rack up a lot of kills.

It actually excites me. This game has so many ways to play it. It is one of, if not my favorite game right now. GTA V is tough competition, but DayZ is something very special. Camping out and picking off players here we come. Sorry if we take out any OS'ers .

Im on almost every night, just hit me up on steam.

Edit: For the guys that don't know, you can have 2 characters. One for standard Dayz with 1st/3rd person point of view and one on hardcore with only first person. I've been running my standard character with my cousin, but I've been running sole on my hardcore character. So I'd like to make my hardcore character a OS squad hive.

This is the hardcore server I have Favorited, that I will run on regardless of people in it, or time of day. It was dark my entire play through last night. I just died (got into a gun fight with 2 bandits, killed one but I died also), so I will be respawning tonight on the coast, if anyone is interested in joining up.

Me and my cousin running as Bandits on our standard character, we should team up so we have a 4 man bandit squad. Once persistence gets fully fleshed out and we can build hideouts with gardens, food storage, supply racks, etc. It will be cool to make raids on peoples hideouts.

I can only think of this
