I'm at work, so I can't watch the video, but I played a good amount over the weekend. I am liking .58. For the first time in forever I'm actually doing things like crafting fire drill kits tll, carrying rain jackets and other jackets depending on if my player gets cold or if it rains, etc. The loot economy seems so much better.

The game had taken great steps forward. Very happy with the progress I've seen over the last 2 years almost.

I'm currently on close to 3 weeks of survival with my character. I'm decked out in summer hunting jacket, summer hunting pants, cross bow, 10 bolts, quiver, crossbow sight, and range finder. I'm setup to be the ultimate silent assassin. Tonight it is looking like we are going searching for netting to craft ghillie suits.

        Re: Day Z

I've never used the crossbow, just the improvised bow which was deadly at the time(don't know if they messed with it or not since). I think I have hunter pants on, but my jackets are black and red. My guy was cold when wearing the rain coat, so I got a black jacket that seems to help, but I keep the raincoat for rain obviously haha.

What server do you guys play on? We tend to DayZUnderground private hive.

            DayZ Game Night

            **4 hours of play time**

We had a awesome run last night. We ran in a 3 man group from Severograd to North West Berezhki fishing village in search of nets to make ghillie suits. We then continued on a dangerous trek south following the coast.

Upon heading south, we stopped outside Svetlojarsk before moving through to scope the situation out. Its a common move through point of new spawns. So I'm posted up checking out the city when I spot a fresh spawn. He runs up to a crane and starts climbing, so I'm relaying to the team we have a spawn to keep eyes on before we duck off through the city real quick. Just then he gets to the top of the crane, then proceeds to commit suicide and jumps off LOL.

We then sprint on through to get in the woods and into some cover. We then follow the coast hitting all the boats and found lots of netting, 8 to be exact. We made it through Berezino surprisingly with no contact and continued our journey all the way to Elektro.

When we hit the edge of Elektro, we knew this is when weeks of character building could end, we had to stick on each others hip and move tactical. We proceeded to bound from building to building covering all angles. As we moved on through it was appearing pretty untouched for once, so we made the decision to hit the police station even against our better judgement.

I then made my way to the police station roof to get some high ground to see if I could see anyone or anything. That was when I spotted a dead guy on top of a small building. So I radio to the crew downstairs we got a dead guy lets go loot him.

So my one buddy with a Winchester & hunting scope proceeds to climb a high rise to cover us, then me with my crossbow, and my other buddy with his blaze 95 start climbing the ladder to go check this dead body out.

So I should also mention at this time, we have been on a 4 hour play time at this point. We've used all our food and were starting to fall in the orange in hunger, being we were along the coast, food is scarce. So the situation was becoming dire.

As I checked the guys body he didn't have anything which would be useful to us, so I ask my buddies,

Me: "Look guys we are not finding food, I think we might have to eat this guy. How do you guys feel about that?".
High rise Buddy(Wes): "I don't want to get brain sickness, so I'm not. We have to find food somewhere!"
Blaze Buddy(Jordy): "I don't think we have much of a choice"
Me: I'll crave him up and we will split the meat, we can continue looking and if we find enough food ditch this human meat somewhere, BUT at least we will have it to prevent dying."

So I start cutting this guy up.

Me: "Jordy, here take 2 of these steaks"
Jordy: "Ohhhh so you going to set me up with the crime"

Weird Voice: "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I DIDN'T SEE NOTHING....ohh crap, sorry guys I didn't see nothing"

I turn and this guy with a fireman ax and fireman helmet is peering over the side of the building hanging on the ladder. When I see him he starts climbing down. So I run over to the edge, of course train my crossbow on him and tell him to drop the ax and don't move. He takes off full sprint (pretty smart we were stuck on roof lol). So I start climbing down and my buddy wes on the highrise calls out...."He went into police station". Ok good, I locked the back door with lock pick so he has to come out the front. So we move to the front door and post up in position.

Me: "Come on out man, you are stuck and surrounded. Drop the ax and come out with your hands up. If you don't you will be shot as you leave."
Voice: "Ok ok I'm coming out"

So we tell him to get on the ground, we tied his hands behind his back and proceed to search him. He didn't have anything but we couldn't get a straight answer if he had friends playing so we thought it would be best to focus their energy on saving him JUST in case he did. So we stripped him naked, left him hand cuffed in the street and started on our merry way.

            Just then in the distance

Another voice: "He man, why are you naked?"

So everyone jumps into hidden positions watching these two exchange conversation in the road. I can hear the bound dude start asking for help that he was held up. So it was time to intervene.

            Me: "DROP THE GUN!"
Voice: "Dude you are naked why would I drop the gun?"
Me: "DROP THE GUN YOUR FINAL WARNING"
            Voice: "Fucc...."
Me: **Arrow slams into his leg**
Voice: "Ahhhhh WTF how did you......oooohhhhh I see whats going on here! Ok ok....gun is on the ground"
Me: "Put your hands over your head"
(As you can tell, this guy thought the naked dude was telling him to drop his gun LMAO!!)

We all run out, new guy has his hands up, naked dude is standing next to him still tied up and now he is crying lol. I'm not sure if he was roleplaying or truly crying but it sounded real haha.

As we close in on the new guy I see his character is a women so I start ragging on him.

Me: "Hey we got Caitlyn Jenner here!!!"
New Guy: "**** you, you a bitch!"
Me: "Really, you are the only women in the group!"
New Guy: "What....I'm a women??? Why am I a women"

We just died laughing at this point. In the mist of this conversation, crying naked guy starts sneaking off, when my buddy hollers.

Wes: "We got another guy rolling up!!!!!"
Me: "Ok this is getting out of hand, the middle of Elekro is not the place to have all this going on. We have to get out of here."

As I turn, I see the naked guy standing in front the new guy I guess asking for help. So I raise my crossbow and put a bolt through the back of his head from about 30 yards away. Wes, pulls out his sawed off shotgun and blasts Mrs Caitlyn in the head, and we sprint off leaving the new guy to tell the tale.

At this point we are all in the red starving now. I'm not going out like this!! We run off north of Elekro a bit, light a fire and proceed to cook our human meat. We all feast on his remains, we all get brain disease, we all get food poisoning, and we all pop charcoal tabs then log off.

I'm unsure how our trip will go the rest of the week, but I'm sure it will be three cannibals with a psycho laugh running north looking for some real food

                Re: Day Z

Haha sounds awesome Phobia. You can see no action for hours, even days of playing it, then when you interact with people, being it's all real, you never know what will happen. I remember my days of KoS. Guy came up to my buddy and I telling us how his friends are scouting the NWAF out because his buddy got shot in cold blood by the dude with a blue mountain pack on.We let him tell his tale for about 7 or 8 minutes. Then when he's like, "So will you help us bring justice" I just popped one bullet in between his eyes and we went on our way.

I remember sticking a guy up and telling him if he can make me laugh he will live. We sit there, he can't think of a joke, I raise my weapon and the second I shoot we hear him start to tell a joke. I think the fact that the timing was so perfect was funnier than whatever joke he was going to tell. There was a time we held up 2 or 3 new spawns at once and one guy tried to run away and we shot him in the leg and he screamed over the game like he had really been shot. That guy was dedicated to role playing and even cried when on the ground.

There's so many memories with this game and I've only logged 300 hours into it. The key is everything is real interaction. It makes the game truly dynamic and amazing.

Phobia, I know we talked last night and we found out we'd been running on the same server together for God knows how long(wonder if we have ever crossed paths and never knew?), but I signed up for a RP server for the heck of it. I don't know if I'll enjoy it. I've never done RP in any game before really. It seems lenient enough that it isn't cheesy, but has the structure that will allow camps, bases, factions, etc. That is what drew me to it. I haven't been on the server yet, but I am anxious to see how it plays out. It'll be neat to play on a server that isn't a KoS fest(not that Underground is either) and has some actual societal framework built into it to try and create a different setting than most public servers.

                  Re: Day Z

Yea that is why we run on underground so much because it is not a kos fest. Its has its place, but should be done sparingly. For instance, this last engagement. We were caught red handed cannibalizing a dead player. Most likely we would of been accused of killing him TO eat him but that was not the case, so unluckily for the guys they stumbled into the wrong situation and couldn't be left alive to spread what happened.

The vast majority of our interactions end up being civil because we always play the hero role. We held up a guy the other day, he just found a Winchester with scope and all I had was a pistol with no ammo (he didn't know). I let him keep the Winchester with all the ammo and only took his backpack and 1 bag of rice. We left him with everything else, then allowed him to leave with a simple BE SAFE lol.

Survival in DayZ is tough and sometimes that means you have to do things which will label you a dick even when you don't want to be, BUT to live they must be done. We didn't want to eat the dead guy but its the only way we were not going to starve to death.

So I guess from here we will start to merge these characters into lunatic bandits with brain disease. Next character I'll go back to my ol hero self

You are right, there is no other game out which offers the interactions and memories DayZ can give. It's awesome and its still only in alpha, by the time it goes gold this game will be incredible. I'm glad I'm along for the ride, now I'm thinking about starting to make movies similar to Mr. Moon if I can find the time to edit video footage.

                    Re: Day Z

Yea, I have the being a dick part down in the game. It's the hero side I struggle with haha. I don't particularly KoS, but my buddy and I are not exactly innocent of doing things like breaking players legs and making them crawl to the morphine or stint just to pick it up before they get there and move it again.

Or just straight up stalking people and baiting them into situations.

It's funny, when the game first released a couple years back I felt bad when we'd shoot someone first, but then one night we went on a spree and killed like 15 people in a bunch of different ways and now I struggle with being a hero haha. But like I said, we don't KoS as much anymore unless we feel we need to, but we don't exactly just let someone live without paying a price.

And I was in a similar situation as you once with no ammo. Had an empty sks and stumbled upon a group of 3. All had weapons, but they had them on their backs. I ran up and held up all 3 by myself. I think I ended up giving them an extra can opener in exchange for enough food to fill my backpack. They didn't know I had no ammo and I went on my way. I think that character survived nearly a whole month playing 4 days a week or more.

Does it still take forever to find a gun, or is it a bit better?

I mean I get that you have to hunt a bit to find stuff, but there were times I'd play for hours and never find anything lootable...

This was on the Mod DayZ though, are you guys on the Standalone?

Always wonder if I should fire it back up on my PC sometime, but then I realize that I don't have 3 hours a night to waste wandering around never finding anything before i get cheaply killed.

                        Re: Day Z

Depends on what type of gun you're looking for. I have no trouble finding pistols. Shotguns aren't too rare, neither are basic hunting type rifles. If you're looking for AK's, M4's, and that sort of weqpon, then you'll have a harder time, but each time I've started a new life I've had no trouble at least finding a pistol within 30 minutes.

The loot is setup now to where if you want a pistol, search police cars and buildings. If you want some sort of Mosin or any other bolt action, then check hunting stands or remote houses/cabins, smaller villages. And obviously military grade weaponry is at military locations.

As for overall loot, if you're wanting it to be like it used to where you can be fully geared in an hour, it's no longer like that. You might be stuck just looking for a better pair of pants or a rain jacket for an hour or two, or even a backpack. However, you can always go the improvised route on almost any sort of item in the game which is nice.

Their ultimate goal is for this to be hard core survival, I imagine the loot economy is going to become even harder on the player which I am a fan of. If looting for 4 hours and and not being fully geared sounds boring to you, the game might not be turning into what you want.

That's both the best and worst thing about the game... I LOVE the hardcore survival aspect, but I hate that I don't happen to have the time to really enjoy this game.

Nevertheless, I made sure I logged onto Steam yesterday to get the update after reading Phobia's write-up. I didn't have more than 5 minutes to play last night, but hopefully I'll get in some time tonight.

Get in what you can if you really want to play. I used to think I need at least an hour and a half to set aside to play the game, but now I've realized I can sit down, take 30 minutes to do minor looting and then log back out. Sometimes I find nothing, sometimes I'm lucky and find a Mosin. It may not be action packed, but ever since I just gave it a try and started doing that, I don't regret the time spent like I thought I might. Just yesterday I spent 45 minutes I'm the game and was able to find 3 raincoats, a backpack, the CZR rifle, 2 protector cases, powdered milk, a first aid kit, and a few other minor items. I also ran into a guy and let him have a raincoat for nothing in return.

Then I found a house in a village that I felt comfortable logging out in and ended my short adventure. It just adds another aspect to DayZ in a way.

Anyone who checked out the stream last night(Almost 7 hour streaming). We had some crazy experiences. I'll try and grab some highlights from it today to post. Here is couple I can remember.
                                • Hit the North West Airfield with a buddy. He got sniped and I couldn't find the two which were popping shots at people. They finally located me and were able to land a couple shots to knock me unconscious. They then held me up and were talking crap, I knew they were going to kill me so I just made a break for it lol.
                                • Ran into 5 or 6 fresh spawns and we united with axes to attack two bandits holding up some fresh spawns. It was a funny altercation which ended with mad chaos of us all chasing them down axing them to death. I took a stray bullet from a friendly.
                                • On one occasion we run into a fresh spawn and he proceeds to tell us there is hackers in Elektro. All three of us head out to kill some hackers but along our way we run into a guy which was talkative. He had ammo which I needed so I proceeded to demand for the ammo. Well it was my mistake, I should of just shot him and took it because he set us up. The entire time he was talking and delaying the situation so his buddies could arrive. They mowed us down then laughed how they set us up.
