This game looks pretty awesome. 4 player coop. I never seen zombies movie like this in a video game until now. I read somewhere that there are 500 zombies coming at you at certain times. Sounds frantic and crazy, like it should be.

I've been jonesing for a new zombie game. I'm going to skip Telltales's Aug launch until all episodes are complete. Days Gone is Feb, which means that Overkill, SoD2, or this, is my zombie go to game for this year.

This demo looked good, especially the physics model. The crazies climbing upon each other at that 4:09 mark in the mall was impressive. Going to keep my eye on this one.

Recap from the week.

Me and my cousin managed to meet up at Solnichniy around 5 days ago. We then set out for Kabanino which is right near the military base. While on this trek we saw some crazy things.

Day 1 - We managed to make it to Staroye. We stuck near the tree line and looked for survivors inside the city, making sure it was safe before we moved in. Everything looked good we started to cross a wide open field to move into the field when out of no where two survivors come running out a house. We quickly hit the dirt and hide behind a low rock wall. One survivor was carrying a fuel tank and the other a axe. I kept my Blaze 95 trained on them as they made their way out the city. Knowing they done hit the city we bypassed Staroye and made our way for the small farm houses along the road north. We ended our night camped out in a second story house. Any time running into survivors quickly adds stress to the situation.

Day 2 - We just so happen to start into a server that was about a hour away from darkness. Part of the fun for us with DayZ is cutting no corners, whatever is thrown at us we face it like you would in real life. No quitting servers and finding one that is easier.

So I load my flashlight and get ready to continue north for Novy Sobor. We don't make it 100 yards out the house and its pouring raining and pitch black (lighting strikes in the middle of night thunder storm is beautiful!!). So we decided to get in a shed, light a fire to dry out waiting on the rain to quit. We take that time to load up on food and water.

The rain finally quits and we start out on our hike. Out of no where I hear a zombie growl and spin my flash light to the left to see two zombies chasing a deer through a field. It was crazy looking and quickly elevated my fear level. Then they saw my flash light and started charging us. I let ring out both my 95 blaze rounds, folding both zombies in their tracks. We quickly both agreed, LETS FIND COVER!!! Last thing we needed was to get jumped by several zombies in the dark and open field. So we managed to find a barn and took shelter in the top loft.

Day 3 - **** hit the fan right outside of us spawning in day three. I'm loaded down with plenty of ammo for my 95 Blaze and my cousin is rocking a SKS with no ammo. So together we look pretty intimidating. Well right after we spawned in the barn we head through a big field covered in hay bails. We see a green house up ahead and make our way for it to scavenge for food and water. So my cousin heads upstairs to search as I search the down stairs. I then realize I left the door open to the house so I head back to close it, RIGHT as I'm closing the door I see a guy run right across. He must of heard the door and started saying "Come out the house or we will come in and kill you". Well we have our Teamspeak setup where we can talk with no buttons pressed but when you hold capslocks it mutes teamspeak but talks in game. Makes coordinating way better behind the scenes. So I'm telling my cousin they don't know he is in here, they think it is just me. So he stays out of sight upstairs.

I then run upstairs and start telling them to "Come on in, come say hello". He then responds with "We have three guys with us, you sure you want us coming in?!?". At this point I think he is bluffing so I tell my cousin to train his SKS out the top window to locate this guy. Finally he spots one but only one. So I tell him to put his crosshair right on that guy. So right at this point I tell the guy "If we wanted you dead you would be", he starts mouthing off and I tell him "Tell your buddy to look upstairs and see what is coming his way". His boy then freaks out and runs towards the house to get out of sight.

So now we are in this standoff of these guys talking crap and us talking crap from the second floor. He starts saying how they are coming in and the front door to the house opens, I let ring out two rounds. One through the opening and one through the wall. I work my way to the door and shut it closed again. We have now been trapped inside this house for 10 min or so when out of no where the guys are no longer responding.

Talk about a tense moment attempting to leave that house!!!!!!! I thought we were going to be cut down the moment we stepped out. Yet we made it out alive. Guess they didn't want to take a chance of getting cut down coming through the door so they cut their losses and moved on. Human nature standoff, only DayZ could create.

At this point we are in Guglovo and continue on towards Kabanino. We decided to settle for the night in a shed between Guglovo and Novy Sobor.

Day 4 - So Monday the 12th made our 6th day of surviving. Took us couple days getting off the coast and then 4 days on our current trek. We at this point we are both completely camoed out and camo backpacks. We look like a two man military squad. Right out the gate, I see a big elk in the distance, I lay down, settle my breath, and dropped the elk.

So we head on towards Novy Sobor. Upon getting near the city we started getting attacked by 2 to 3 zombies over and over again. I'm running through ammo fast and starting to get concerned if the waves will end. In the midst of the attacks my cousin took couple good hits and was bleeding heavily. We decide to run for the police station to hold up, close all the doors, and patch him up.

So we get the bleeding stopped but he takes on a sickness. Over the next hour we fought trying to fight his sickness with alcohol tincture, antibiotics, and Saline IV. Nothing was working, he kept getting sicker and was slowly dying. When he started vomiting I knew he was not going to make it and died at the foot of the stairs. I tried to use my defibrillator on him but he was gone. Sad moment, knowing how long it will take us to ever meet up again!

Day 5 - Yesterday I fought to make it out of Novy Sobor by myself. I was quickly attacked by waves of zombies. I managed to fight them all off but I fractured my leg in the middle of the fights. So I had to chop down a tree and make a splint to repair my leg. I then took off hiking for Stary Sobor which has a grocery store. On the way there my guy develops a sickness himself. So now I'm forced to hit the medical facility in Stary and hope for the best. I hit the first building I came to and held up for the night.

Day 6 - Tonight will be hopefully curing this sickness!!! I sure don't want to go out like this. I've worked far to hard to get the gear I got and so damn close to the military base to really gear up weapon wise. Damn I love this game!!!

Zombies chasing deer - CHECK!
Survivor vs Survivor standoff - CHECK!
Hunting adventures - CHECK!
Fighting off hordes of zombies - CHECK!
Close calls with hiding from survivors - CHECK!
Watching your buddy die a slow death - CHECK!
Being left alone to fend for yourself far away from the coast - CHECK!

Well last night I managed to cure my sickness with a Saline IV bag. My cousin was able to meet up with me in Novy Sobor and administered the bag.

Right after getting the IV we head out for Stary Sobor to hit the medical facility & grocery store. While sneaking up on the grocery store, a survivor comes running out the grocery store. As soon as he saw us he turned the opposite way running down the street. I told my cousin "We have to go that way......I don't want to risk running into this guy down the street". So I laid down, trained my 95 blaze on him sprinting down the street. My shot landed square in the back, he winced when I hit him and he turned to get behind cover. I then let ring out my second shot but couldn't tell if I hit him on the second shot. We moved slowly to see if we could find his body but never could find a trace of him. He was a lucky SOB!!!!!!!!!!!

We then made our way to the north airfield. Upon entering, we took our time and found a bunch of ammo & weapons. We then were climbing up the multistory building when I found a box of 9mm ammo. My cousin needed it so I was throwing it down on the ground when my screen went black, then I hear him say "You just dropped to the ground..............oh **** someone is shooting..........DAMN I'm dead.

I'm guessing we were sniped by a Mosin sniper. He would of only had line of sight by the windows. 30+ hours of character development down the drain........like canes said "That's DayZ for you".

So I didn't have it in me to start a new character last night, but this morning I got up early before work to get a little time in and managed to gear up pretty quick. Gearing up and going to be a bandit this run through!!

So I got a story to share with you guys!!!

Day 1 - So me and my cousin setup a 2 man camp near Black Lake. We decided to go on a loot run to the BNN air strip to the west. After hitting the strip there was zero weapon loot, so we decided on hitting the small military base at the very north of the map. After what felt like 4 hours of running we finally hit Nagornoe which is just East of the military base. So we choose to loot the small village to look for food and drink. We find a decent amount of goods and decided to hit the military base tomorrow.

Day 2 - So the next day I log on about 30 min before him and tell him via text I'm going to hit the military base for him to meet me there. He says he will be there in 15min or so. So I take off alone with my .22 and 1 round chambered because I did not have the 10rd clip. Some defense but very little.

As I make it to the military base I'm finding awesome camo and racking up. The 3rd building I hit had two rooms. So I run in the first room and looking around when I hear foot steps. I go into crouch/stealth mode, walk down the hall and lean looking into the room. Two guys who are geared the hell up are in the room talking and not paying attention. So I pull out my .22 and attempt to head shot the first guy, but it hits him in the shoulder. I then take out running down the hall, but the second guy charges at me and punches me, knocking me out. So now I'm unconscious and I can hear them talking to me....."Why you had to go and do that"..........."Looks like we going to have to torture you"!

Now I come to and I'm laying on the floor with my hands tied behind my back. They are standing behind me with their SKS's pointed at me. This is where the crazy part of DayZ's social aspect comes into play. No one wants to lose dozens of hours in a character build so everyone is scared to die. So I figure I have to do something.

Step 1) I text my cousin first and told him where I was and what went down. To flank these guys with shots through the windows.

Step 2) LIE to diffuse the situation. Flip the script on them.

So as I come to I start tripping out......"What the hell is going on??? I spawn, hear a gun shot, and you two pieces of **** got me tied up. Come on guys this ain't cool". They don't know really how to respond to this and start explaining the situation of what went down. I continue to "I don't know what the hell happened, I just know I spawned and now you guys are being jerks. I just want to enjoy my night and play a little DayZ".

I'm now laughing my *** off because they are falling for it and buying me enough time for my cousin to arrive. So he finally texts me and says he is hitting the tree line and will be there in 10 min.

Now here I slip up, we been constant chatting back and forth for 20 min or at this point. I've pretty much got them convinced, I'll give them all my guns and we both go separate ways. Except I said "Look guys take the gun, I'll sprint one way, you guys sprint the other. I just need to meet up with my buddy". The split second they heard that the panic set in, you could hear it over the mic. "Wait....where is he?"......"You tell him not to come near here!!!!!"........"Your not going anywhere bruh".............They crouch down and take defensive positions in the house.

I'm now left trying to diffuse this damn situation, except they were not buying it. My cousin is now within eye sight of the building. Then out of no where the guy I originally shot, walks up behind me and says "Sorry bruhhhh, you ****ed up" BOOOM.......Lights out.

My cousin then moves in.......finds my body and they are no where to be found.

It went down as one of my top gaming moments. First it was a real type of human interaction which is awesome to see because of the sheer difficulty it takes to effectively gear up. While in reality I got taken hostage, held for about 30 mins of real time, sitting unable to do anything but chat over the mic with these two "survivors". I didn't need to be running or interacting in the game world to have a amazing gaming moment.

I can't wait to see DayZ go to retail, it continues to get better and better.

Any update on when this will be released to consoles?

Phobia, with that 5-day journal you posted, you may have single-handedly sold DayZ for me when it comes out on the PS4.

Just reread through this thread, some really good old memories.

While it might not be out on PS4 yet, XBOX did get DayZ a couple days ago. So if you happen to own an Xbox, you can finally dip your toe into the DayZ survival horror. Just remember the mic and social aspect make the game.

They pulled them out at one time for server stability reasons, so I'm not sure if Xbox has them in, but I'd assume yes.

Actually, that's not a bad thing, especially in a survival game where you come up against experience players who know the game....From the game's description.......

I wanted to get it based on my love of PUBG - but reading the reviews made me choose not to lol, they are overwhelmingly terrible.

PUBG has a vocal minority of people slamming the game for it's issues, but still at least holds a decent score overall. Day Z there is just almost zero good things people say about it on console at least.

If you were getting this game expecting it to be similar to PUBG then it is probably a good thing ended up not getting it. They are not very similar except for being shooters.

Normally, I wont let reviews give me the final decision but after reading this recent one from Push Square, and watching game play on Youtube, it pretty much killed any desire I may have had for it. Especially, with the $40 price tag, Bohemia Interactive should be ashamed for what still looks like a beta version.

it's the balistics and feel of shooting I like in PUBG - I would imagine DAY Z would be almost the same... I with BF felt like this, hell, every shooting game or game w/ shooting elements - soooo satisfying

Ehh, DayZ's shooting lines more up with ARMA, not PUBG. I know that PUBG is supposed to have a more "hardcore" approach to ballistics and shooting compared to the other battle royale games, but I wouldn't really view it as being very similar to DayZ in that regards.
