    Re: The Witcher 3

Don't really play games in this genre, but the more I hear people talk about this game, the more I'm intrigued. Do I need to play the other games in the series or can I just jump into this one?

I played this with no knowledge of the previous games and it's still one of favorite games ever.

I, personally, dont ever see I time in my life when I wont be playing this game. I kept my PS3 for Red Dead, Skyrim, Batman and Assassins Creed series. But I will keep my PS4 forever simply because I will always want to play The Witcher.

I'm not familiar with bloodborne and I'm only 99% sure of this answer but The Witcher doesn't lock you out of anything. You can free roam after the story is over. The dlc's are stand alone narratives and don't tie into the base game.

              Re: The Witcher 3

              So excited for this.

Summary of all the previews for Blood and Wine.

              The Numbers:
              • 30+ hour adventure.
              • Over 90 new quests.
              • Over 40 new points of interest.
              • Dynamic points of interest system.
              • 14,000 lines of dialogue (Hearts of Stone had 6,000).
              • 100 individual pieces of armor (including new Witcher sets).
              • More than 20 new monsters.
              • New Game + maximum level increased to 100.

              Armor and Weapons:
              • New Witcher armor class "Grandmaster".
              • New armor merchant who is the only one able to craft this level of Witcher gear.
              • Can get blue hooded armor from Witcher 2, armor from Witcher 1, Ursine Witcher armor with furry pauldron that was in the artbook but cut from the main game.
              • More than 30 new weapons.
              • Can now dye armor. Dyes can be bought from a merchant, crafted or looted. Only obtainable in Toussaint.

              New Mutation System:
              • Mutations. 12 new abilities.
              • The UI resembles Witcher 2's character customization screen. Basically they're super strong abilities/stat boosts that require mutagens and skill points to unlock. Can only pick one at a time but you have to unlock earlier ones to get the others.
              • Despite unlocking it at level 34+ (recommended level to venture to Touissant) the system and anything you've unlocked carries over to New Game+ so you won't have to unlock it again.

              UI Changes:
              • Greatly redesigned User Interface.
              • Can now rotate Geralt in stats screen.
              • Books moved to glossary.
              • Upon looting a readable item a little notification pops up in bottom left of screen. Upon clicking in the right stick (on Xbox One controller), you can read the text of recently looted books, letters, notes etc without having to go to the menu, inventory, finding the right book and so on.
              • Option to remove fish-eye effect from Witcher Sense.

              Home Base:
              • Geralt gets his own vineyard.
              • It's called Corvo Bianco.
              • You can renovate it with large sums of money.
              • You can add a greenhouse of sorts where you can grow herbs for all your Witcher potion needs, an armorer's table, a stable for Roach (with its own stat bonuses), upgrade your bed, renovated interior and exterior, secret lab, guest room.
              • Guest room where old friends will come to stay.
              • Scaffolding and workers will appear after you choose to build something. Each change takes a certain amount of in-game time to complete, but you can just meditate til everything's done.
              • Can display your armor, weapons, paintings and books.
              • Some paintings can be bought, or specially made, others are obtained through quests.

              Other Tidbits:
              • Over 2 hours of new musical content.
              • Can enter Geralt in a tournament, creating his own logo and team colors.
              • Can enter under a fake name, although you may not fool everyone.
              • New sword sheathing option. With this new option Geralt no longer automatically unsheathes his sword at the start of combat. Also, he no longer switches weapons to match the opponent. The player has to do it on their own.

I started this game.....and it's amazing. But when The Show came out I lost focus.

I am going to restart it again this fall. I have the gorgeous hard cover guide which I have been reading and I have totally rethought how I am approaching the game. I will take my sweet time exploring and building my character now that I have a nice guide to help me figure out all the minutia and detail in how I can craft my world and fate.

No doubt this game is amazing in the short 15 hours I spent with it....I barely scratched the surface and knew it was special.

Mine is still shrink wrapped from when I bought it on Black Friday. The Show has also taken me away from it, as well as ESO. I'll get to it soon enough.

CDPR is hosting an event in a castle in Italy to youtubers & media like they did when the released the game. It looks amazing.

They really make an extra effort for it.

Popped this game on kind of late last night thinking I'd just get an hour in. LOL, that turned into 2 AM really quick. At least I finally made my way to Skellige in this playthrough.

I'm playing in much smaller doses than my first time through, and it really highlights just how well put together this game is compared to everything else I've played this gen. I think Uncharted 4 will definitely give it a run story/graphics wise, but it's going to be a long time before another game comes along that has the depth of quality that Witcher 3 brings.

Still haven't gotten to Hearts of Stone yet. Blood & Wine looks amazing.
