I definitely approached this game the wrong way. I would just look for level and quests without preparation or exploring the world, or even making money. I'm so tempted to restart and give it the time and patience it needs. Thankfully I'm only a level 4 or so.

I feel the same way as you man. I haven't been able to play often as I've been really busy but I'm a level 8 and feel like I want to restart so I can take my time and relearn things. I'm still really confused on basic concepts in this game so I think this would be a good idea to do.

I was super busy when I began and just tried cruising through which can't happen. Now I am just going to start playing it, and let things sink in and enjoy it.

I'm stuck on the first boss in the expansion. I know how to beat it, but the fight goes on forever, and requires perfect dodging as he has moves that stunlock you if they hit and he'll take down half your health in 1 or 2 hits.

I never had this much trouble with any other boss fight. I've done all the side quests I've found so far in the expansion, and most of it is pretty good.

I might stop playing after giving the boss a few more shots though. The game is fun, but coming back to after a few months off, I can see how much of a weakness the combat in the game is. Definitely not meant to handle long, tough battles like Dark Souls/Bloodborne is.

            Melee build?

I've read a lot of people say they had trouble with that fight with a more melee focused build. I didn't have to much trouble with a sign build. Yrden + Igni made it pretty easy. There's a couple other fights that I could see being a pain for melee builds.

I finished it and thought it was really good. Writing and quest design is at least as good as anything in the main game. It's pretty substantial compared to most modern DLC too. Looking forward to Blood and Wine next year.

Yeah, mine is more melee build. I have enough points saved up where I can switch over to sign build, but I never messed with different build types that much in the main game. I didn't even know Igni was effective. I remember Geralt saying that fire doesn't affect it, so I didn't even bother using it. I was mainly using Yrden and Axii against it.

Apparently the Northen Wind bomb is very effective in that fight too. Was missing one of the ingredients I need to craft it though.

After googling for witcher builds I came across a thread on reddit about an all alchemy build. Read it and decided to respec Geralt.

I am now a bomb throwing potion junkie demi god lol. I'm thinking of adding some fast attacks with the build when I go hunt down the cat school gear as I still prefer sword play over bombs.

Dead Man's Party might be my favorite quest in the game. The dialogue between Geralt and Shani also seems better and more natural than the conversations between Triss or Yennefer in the main game.

Has anyone made a combat or potion cheat sheet to use during play? I'd love to print one up to help me improve my combat skills.

Getting close to finishing up the main quest. Should I finish up any side quest I want to do before finishing?

Or save them for your second play thru so you have something new to do in between.

So when this game came out I logged about 90 hours in before getting distracted by other games

Finally picked it up again last night and am hooked again. Loving all the post-release support, the free DLC and patches are awesome.

I love the new game+ the most, sounds great. Now I don't have to obsess over getting everything done first time through!

This game really is amazing. Devs who make games like this deserve so much credit for the amount of content they deliver.

It's great because I can't afford Fallout 4 at the moment and this will tide me over until theres a deal

I might have to get this game.. it's going on sale for $25 very soon, which sounds like a great deal for a game that'll probably creep me out a ton.
