    The Witcher 3

Been wanting to pick this up. I'm waiting to see what the price will be for digital during Microsofts Black Friday sale. If it's not much of a sale then I'll just get it from Best Buy.

What's the combat/ controls like? Similar to any other games?

PSN has it digital for $25 during their Black Friday sale so I would assume Xbox would have the same price.

          Re: The Witcher 3

For you guys jumping in now, I highly suggest investing in researching the background story and politics of the witcher 3 landscape before starting up. The game tries to clue you in but there's layers upon layers of whats happening across the world. When the game came out kotaku and some you tubers put up great "things to know" and "getting started" tutorials, I'll try to find those old links.

As far as whether or not you'll like it or not all I can say is if you enjoy atmosphere and immersion, you can really get into this game. It's a marvel of a game, a real accomplishment, especially with the post launch support, and even if you never fully get into it it's a steal for 25 bucks, I mean an amazing deal. I'm not sure I've felt as attached to a character and really enjoyed a true role playing experience quite like I have with witcher 3. Don't be afraid to make decisions, there will be consequences to anything you so, just really try to enjoy the journey of where carving your own personal Geralt adventure takes you. I don't believe there's a "best way" to play this game.

Also, get into Gwent! Gwent is awesome and once you figure it out I bet ull love building your decks and challenging npcs across the map,

Also again, don't be afraid to just wander the map and get lost, you'll find things that the map POIs don't always indicate.

As someone who has never played either of the first two games of this series, would I be missing out on crucial information needed?

Actions/incidents/developments from the second game tie directly into the third.i never played the second game except for a few minutes, so I had to read some guides and the re-read them after the few couple hours of gameplay before I had a firm grasp on what was going on, who was who, etc.

In game there is an encyclopedia of characters that updates itself and informs you as the games storyline progresses and that helps but there's definitely backstory worth researching IMO

Also, there is a point near The beginning where you are asked questions about the actions of the second game as a way of simulating your save game from witcher 2. I think mass effect 2 and 3 do the same thing, so you can carry on your playthrough from witcher 2 to witcher 3. It gives you the option, if I remember correctly, to not answer questions and just play in the "default" setup, which I did the first time I played. The second time I picked my answers after researching what each choice meant

              Edit:

As far as the stuff from witcher snd witcher 2 being "crucial," which was your original question, I guess that's debatable. If you wanna just jump in and plays you'll be ok, I just think it helps to look up the witcher 3 beginner guide first

I appreciate your response. That definitely helps. I'll be sure to look at some story lines from 1 and 2 to get my feet wet.

I will be in the clueless holiday playing camp.

Here is a nice background article (I think).
Need a refresher on the characters, politics, and events of The Witcher and The Witcher 2? Here you go.

I am a huge Witcher geek. I have read all of the books, played all of the games. I have even seen the movie and tv show (both horrible).

Just ask away and I will do my best to help.

I've been getting really bored with Fallout 4 so I decided to work on my NG+ playthrough for the first time in weeks and this game sucked me back in immediately. I'm jealous of those getting to experience it for the first time.

Man, same here!! I was anxious for Fallout4, bought it and have been playing for a bit now, but "The Witcher 3" is calling my name. Fallout 4 just seems bland and shallow compared to Witcher. Never thought I would say that but its true. I'm still kind of forcing my way through Fallout, just not as NEARLY wrapped up in it like I was with Witcher.

By the way, I'm only probably about 5 - 10 % into each game so I'll be switching back and forth I guess. Witcher is definitely the better of the two.

Also, I'm hoping we can get some DLC with small side stories or at least extra skins of those other three witchers. I would like to play as one of them.
