Especially with Halloween right around the corner.

It has dropped almost 2 bucks on Amazon. Small consolation.

      Re: The Evil Within

The Evil Within is a very good game but the problem is that it should be great. Instead of an 8/10 (where I would rate it now), It should be a 9/10. the reason it isn't is due to three negatives, all major in my opinion.

      1) Wide screen aspect. Sorry but no video game should have black bars on the top and bottom period. I'm not watching a movie. I'm playing a video game. Not only does this cut off your screen but it also lessens the field of view which is bad to begin with.

      2) Camera zooms so much when aiming that it looks like a first person shooter. Not only is this bad but when trying to use the Agony Crossbow and surrounded by enemies, it becomes very aggravating and frustrating.

      3) Camera in general is too close behind the character. Needed to be zoomed out a little more. I was literally just playing chapter 4 and there's a part im completely surrounded by enemies and backed up against a wall. Trying to shoot your way out is nearly impossible because of these three negatives. I decided to stop playing and take a break because it's just too much aggravation and frustration.

Even more than the above three negatives is that this was all done on purpose by Mikami to give the game a cinematic feel and to keep the tension and feeling of being closed in as much as possible but to me, it makes it all feel cheap. I'm 36 and no game is going to actually scare me and I seriously doubt that the majority of those playing this game will get scared either so instead of trying to force something, they should have eliminated these negatives.

I'm actually playing on 480p in order to eliminate the black bars by zooming in the picture. Granted, the black bars are very minimal on the top and bottom of the screen yet the field of view and everything else is still bad. This helps but not as much as I was hoping. Basically, you're screwed either way.

It's just horrible designs and decisions like this that make me pissed off when I see people complain about 1080p and 30fps or 60fps because quite honestly, that doesn't matter at all when the game has far more serious problems.

Aside from the above, the game itself is good, damn good and im actually enjoying a lot of the aspects of the game. It's the closest you're going to get to old school Resident Evil and Silent Hill. That angers me even more because like a said above in a previous post, WHY?, WHY?, WHY?

As for the trade in value at Best Buy, it's not posted yet so you won't be able to trade it in. I didn't notice that until late last night after I posted the previous message about me wanting to trade the game in.

Loved watching YT videos of Outlast after I was done with the game.
Haven't watched any for Evil Within yet as I want to play first.
          Love horror games... always will.

No. Honestly, I have no interest in that game. The first person perspective is my least favorite genre as I have only finished four FPS ever. Fifth will be Far Cry 4 even though im somewhat tempted by Shadow Warrior since it's supposed to be an old school retro FPS. I know that Outlast isn't a FPS but im not a fan of the perspective and to walk around through corridors holding a camera isn't for me. LOL.

That's a shame, I'd definitely recommend it if you're a fan of the horror genre. Such a great, traumatizing experience.

I watched the opening on YouTube and within five minutes, I already knew that it's not for me. Glad you enjoyed the game though.

After playing Condemned and the first Dead Space, games just do not scare me at all anymore. Even outlast to me was not scary, just a different experience.

I'm on chapter 6 and have already put in over 10 hours into the game and if you count the time of re-loading, it's easily over 15 hours.

There's also a lot of collectibles to find if you're into that stuff.

I think this might depend on what you'd consider survival horror? I'm 2 chapters in, not far but resources are scarse and the horror elements are pretty creepy, hoping for a bit more as I move along though as most enemies I can see/hear from miles away so there's no real "HOLY CRAP" moments yet other than 1 or 2 in a cutscene.

It's challenging that's for sure, I died 4 times only to find out I was only playing the intro! no game has killed me before running the opening credits before.

I got through that actually pretty well.
Really like the game so far BUT something I can't quite put my finger on is holding it back from being really good.
Some things just seem forced on you regardless of what you do etc..

Supposed to get better from Chapter 3 on so we'll see.

Currently on chapter 9. I can rate this game as low as a 7 but as high as a 9. So many great things about the game but yet, so many things that just makes me scratch my head, saying "why?".

Was torn between getting this or Alien Isolation. I went with this. And GOOD LORD who the heck at Bethesda said ok to the widescreen only??!?!?!? It is beyond awful IMO. The field of view is smashed and having to constantly look up and down to make sure im not missing something(you'll miss button prompts that are alittle higher than the top of your head if you dont look up) makes me nauseated. Every once in awhile i'll get engrossed in the game and kinda tune it out, but those moments are very very few and far between. Those black bars are intrusive and take away from the game tremendously IMO. Other than that giant mistake, the game is good. The framerate is chuggy in outdoor sections and textures pop in pretty noticably during cutscenes but the textures look good when they finally load. The game is challenging and not too cheap(except for some enemies...that sorta pop out of nowhere). Honestly, this game would be a 8 or 9 if those damn black bars would go away. I absolutely hate the fact that there isnt at least a option to disable them. Until there is a patch for those bars of death i'll play it for an hour a day or until i feel the need to vomit due to motion sickness.

Does this concern anyone else for 1886 The Order? It seems the big hate has been the widescreen view and isn't The Order going same route?
