Re: Final Fantasy XV
I almost bought it for $38 the other day but I've heard some people aren't happy with it for one reason or another and that the developers are going to be improving it in the future so until then I'll hold off.Comment

Re: Final Fantasy XV
Picked this up last Friday for 40, played about 5 hours, got past the first chapter and I'm actually bored.
I must admit, the Witcher has me spoiled in terms of story telling, world traveling and combat. While FFXV's combat isn't bad, it's a bit to Super Smash Brothers fast for my liking. Each battle, there is so much going on, it's hard to follow. I end up doing linked chain combos and have no idea how I did them. Pressing buttons and warping all over the place. While the idea of having teammates is nice, there execution in the flow of combat is meh. Enemies running all over the place, lights and sparks flying, the "press X" prompt disrupting the flow of combat....its a bit to chaotic. And when the final enemy drops and your xp gains, the music stops and the immersion disappears. Hard to explain.
As for the world itself, granted I've only been to a few rest stops and drove around a bit, the world still feels dead and barren. Doesn't seem to be any nooks or hidden caves to discover, no incentive to traverse the terrain except to find small little treasures, rest spots and ingredients scattered about. And they still do the classic "random encounter" at night or while roaming around. The car rides started off cool but with minimal control, it became just a way to pass time. The need to rest to level up, keep your car tank full and eat for bonuses became an exercise in futility quick. Clever ideas with poor execution.
Speaking on quest, the second I did a quest wear I needed to catch a fish, cook the fish and feed a cat was the second that I knew this game would be too kiddy for me. Then another side quest where I simply needed a repair kit just mad me mad. I understand most if not all RPGs are fetch quest but come on now...don't belittle me with trash like this. If I'm not prying it off a dead beast/human/chest it doesn't feel like an adventure. It's simply a go get this and bring it back type of quest. Weak.
Lastly, the story seems like it will be good but the writing was made for the PG crowd. I felt like I was watching one of my daughters anime shows with English dub overs. The voice acting for the NPC's is horrible. Oh, lets make a big boob auto mechanic sound like a prissy farmer girl...or the guy you meet who says he'll get you a boat to sound like Joe Pesci who looks nothing in the realm of Italian. The in game music thus far has no dramatic feel and can grate on your nerves after about 20 mins continuously.
I will try to play some more before I totally give up. So far, I'm not feeling it.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

I can see where it would be enjoyable for some but it just doesn't seem to suit my tastes. I usually force myself to try a new series out by finishing at least one game but I'm not even feeling like doing that this time.
Again, it's not that it's a bad game at all...just not something that seems to suit my style. Curious if it's the whole FF series or just the particular game that I chose to start with.PSN: JWGoNDComment

Re: Final Fantasy XV
Hey man, just curious...is this your first Final Fantasy game? I've been intrigued with them from afar for quite a while and picked up FFX/FFX-2 a couple weeks ago (half the price and better reviews than FFXV). I'm feeling kinda the same way as you...

Its just the design of the FF games for me. The story isn't mature enough, the RPG elements compared to other games are pretty bare bones basic to me. And the open world is bare as well. All the little mini things you have to do, including sidequest in between missions are a way to make it feel like you're adventuring but they actually feel like a way to stretch the game out.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Final Fantasy XV
I will say, I struggled to get into XV until about Chapter 3 rolled around. Until then I was really worried I was gonna have to force my way through it like XIII

Re: Final Fantasy XV
I rented it a couple days ago, but had reservations about the combat system. I really prefer the old turn based combat, but I have to say I am really enjoying it. I'm using the "wait" option and feel like it's at least a little better than straight up hack and slash. I'm still in chapter one, but I'm really enjoying it so far and find my self wanting to play it while I'm not. And that's rare for me.
I ended up just buying it on Amazon for $38 since I had some gift card credit on there. Really excited to keep playing. The game is absolutely gorgeous.Comment

Re: Final Fantasy XV
So. I was enjoying this game a lot early on. Almost 40 hours get to chapter 9, grinding, side quests, etc.
However, I have reached chapter 12 in what seems like mere minutes after getting to chapter 9.
Super small linear areas, weird story elements and "twists". I'm just super confused and have ZERO clue what's going on.
Kinda turning me off at this point.
Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Final Fantasy XV
Yea I was not a fan of the way they flipped the script on the game play either. I put the game down and haven't picked it back up. I know it opens back up eventually but right now I've got better things to play.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: Final Fantasy XV
Finally beat the story, got to level 50 by chapter 9 and bought a ton of healing potions which made the story easy. The fighting doesn't take much skill with basically unlimited potions its hard to die, in big battles all I did was survive long enough to build Armiger or wait for a summon. Throughout the story Noctis never felt like a king or acted like a king to me, just came off as a normal guy and I never felt he was deeply in love with Lady Luna. The game was pretty good not the best rpg but not bad I'd give it a 7.5/10.
Dragon Age Inquisition is a superior rpg imo, though I like the combat in FF15 better everything else is better in DAI.
