    Final Fantasy XV

I do like the photography in the game. And I like the road tripping to a point. But seems like they should've added hours worth of idle dialogue there to help mediate the mundane.

Outside of that, my only real complaint is that it's too easy to over level (not a big deal), and that it gets a little crazy during battle and it's hard to tell what the hell is going on sometimes.

    But so far so good.

I have played about 3 hours still in Chapter 1 and I am really enjoying. However it DOES NOT feel like a Final Fantasy game. But in this instance it works. The game so far has drawn me in.

Am I the only one occasionally struggling with combat?

It's moreso when I'm out killing monsters either for or around sidequests, and everytime I do, a squad of soldiers comes out of nowhere and it becomes fairly overwhelming. I've got plenty of potions and elixirs so I usually make it through the fights ok, but then I'm running with my squad only having half of their max health for a while.

It just seems like every fight turns into some crazy lopsided affair. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hell out of it as the combat is incredibly fun. Just curious if anyone else is having the same struggles.

BTW, I'm on normal difficulty and have switched to wait mode as of late. It does make it slightly easier to get a read on the battlefield.

Combat seems really disjointed to me. It just seems like complete chaos. I try to do warp attack and all that stuff but it just seems like what I'm doing doesn't really matter. Half the time I hit the block button to parry he doesn't block and I get knocked down. Who know maybe I'm doing something wrong.

                    Beat the game.

Pretty good game man. Got a bit emotional at the end there.

                        Re: Final Fantasy XV

Not horrible, but not a good game. The pacing is screwy, the combat is too simplistic and feels clunky/dated, and even if you assume the plot won't make a lot of sense because it's a FF game there are so many loose ends. Without the FF brand I don't think many people would be talking about this game.

It's not all bad: Noctis and his crew are very likable and the game does a great job of making you care for them. But then it throws out the party concept for a lot of solo rolling in the second half. Considering how much effort is made to make you care about your friends it was a very strange choice to then split you away from them so much in the end.

TLDR You can feel the unfocused, tumultuous development behind the scenes. Ambitious but also somehow rushed despite the decade in development.

I think the point of this was to signify (both to the player and to the character) that Noctis truly needs those close to him to survive and achieve.

I stopped doing side stuff and wanted to beat the game. It's a pretty short main story if you ignore the fluff side content. At some point I got really tired of watching Ignis drive me back and forth for pointless mini quests.

It actually took me out of the immersion. I'm suppose to be saving the realm, and here I am on a long *** side road trip to collect red frogs. I had enough.

In the end I had 30hrs. My friend who was doing every single quest in the game is at the very end of the game now at 60hrs. It's all about how you want to play.

ubernoob, you are correct as to why the solo line was included but I think it was too late in the story and too long lasting. Noctis obviously needed to make the transition from boy to man and realizing his need for family, friends, and duty to take on his father's power was important. However, in a game that focused so much on building camaraderie and group dynamics having that all cast aside for most of the third act didn't work. It isn't so much the transition from open world to linear plot that bothers me but the slow relaxed pace switching to a blitz to the finish around the hallways mark. Everything about the second half felt rushed and either not totally thought out or more likely poorly executed.
