Think I'm passing for now. I have plenty to play until DA or Evil Within if I decide to grab it. I'll certainly watch some streams though

Geez, 34GB download plus another 3GB for the ultra high rez textures. Looks like this will take me over Comcast's bs bandwidth limit.

Ouch. I would be dead if Comcast implemented a bandwidth limit here. I routinely go way over 750GB.

I do like that they have hi-rez textures available to download though. Can't wait to pick this game up today. It really came out of nowhere for me as well. As a LotR fan, I figured I'd wait until the price dropped and play through it for what it is, but after reading about the implementation of the Nemesis system and stuff it made it a day-one purchase for me.

Pretty excited about it. Hopefully impressions will start flowing.

Yeah, our cap here is 300GB, resets on the 1st of the month. Checked and I was at 272GB tonight.

Gonna start streaming to hitbox in a bit. I'm already going over, **** it. http://www.hitbox.tv/Super-king

                Re: Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Game is fun. Took me a while to get a handle on the controls, but now I am getting it. Orcs talk **** to you if they have killed you before, pretty nice touch. Nemesis system is a great mechanic. Love the names of the Orcs as well, adds a lot of personality.

If you like the Batman games from RockSteady and have a passing interest in LOTR you will enjoy it.

So far I have only seen freeing slaves from Orcs and a side mission pursuing and interacting with Gollum. But you can choose who you want to kill in terms of the Orc Leadership. It starts you out with the lower levels, but if they kill you the Orcs get promoted and become harder to kill. I got killed by "Tugluk The Judge" twice and was finally able to kill him, but before I did I interrogated him to get info on another Orc Leader.

I only played for two hours so far. I am leaving now so I look forward to playing more later on.

My major hold-back from picking this up at full MSRP is that the combat, while fun and engaging, is the driving force for the gameplay and could become a bit repetitious over 25-30 hours.

If you're using Fraps, or Afterburner or any similar overlay, you'll have to turn it off.

Like LingeringRegime said, there are missions to free slaves. There are also side quests/challenges dealing with your different weapons. Some might require you to kill a certain amount of enemies within a certain amount of time. Some might require stealth kills as a bonus, execution moves, etc. There are also hunting and gathering challenges in each area where you have to kill so many of a creature type plus gather different plant types.

As for it getting repetitive after 25-30 hours, it may for some. Maybe even me, we'll see. The combat is fun though and nemesis mechanic is very cool. It also took an element from Far Cry 3 where you can use some creatures to kill orcs for you, except these monsters put the tigers and bears of FC3 to shame in terms of toughness and effectiveness. I did one of side missions for the sword and got overwhelmed quickly. After rezzing, I lured two Caragors (those huge rideable dog looking animals) to the spot and they wrecked shop for me. Those two killed every orc in the place except for an archer hanging up top where they couldn't reach it.

The models look beautiful. Benchmarks came out at an even 60FPS on my 7950 with no OC. I did some weird stuff going on during a lightning storm. Whenever lightning strikes, the ground gets this weird rainbow thing going on. Like seeing traces of gasoline on a wet road. Have seen other people talk about this too. The ground itself could look better in some spots but the hi-res pack may help with that.

I read in a recent review there are hunting missions sort of like in Red Dead Redemption.

I would, personally, think that the driving force for the gameplay is the nemesis system while the combat is the glue holding it together.

Haven't played it yet, though. Best Buy doesn't open for another hour so I can't pick my copy up quite yet.

Mine is waiting for me at best buy. Did the preorder for the $10 bonus but not sure if the game is for me or not. Going to wait it out a day or two before deciding.
