Re: No Man's Sky
This game is amazing. Just hit my 3rd planet in my starting system. First planet was a freezing cold planet with little life. Second planet was a red, extremely toxic planet with abundant aggressive life. I had to constantly recharge my suit because of the atmosphere. The planet I just hit is VERY earth like with plenty of plant life, herbivores, water, and abundant resources. The atmosphere is completely friendly it seems, as I don't even need to recharge my environmental protection.
There's so much more I want to go into that I've found, but I'd be typing forever. Love this game.

Re: No Man's Sky
About the Atlas...
SpoilerWhen I jumped to my 3rd star system I promptly got a message about a ruin involved with Atlas. When I went there and activated it I got a message talking about some kind of guidance, but because I ignored that Atlas beacon at the very start it wouldn't help me. So, at this point I don't know, but I'm guessing that's just supposed to be some way of pointing you towards the galaxy core and "beating the game, so to speak". In any event, looks like I'll be doing things my own way....lol.
If anyone decides take the advice of that first Atlas thing at the beginning, can you let us know what it does? I'm a little curious since now it seems I won't have that option.

Re: No Man's Sky
Little run-down of my first session. Just gonna spoil for length mostly.
Spoiler
Almost died my first night as temps plummeted and I nearly froze. Couldn't find the right things needed to recharge my hazard suit and life support got down to like 10% before daylight came and normalized temps and saved me.
The second day I was able to get my bearings and stocked up on the right stuff to survive the night and headed off towards some materials I needed to finish repairing the ship. Scanner said it was 10 minutes away. Figured out how to analyze things and started discovering and logging new plants left and right and even a few animals. Before I knew it it was getting dark again but I soon saw a cavern entrance so I headed in to see what I could see. Scanner said my needed minerals were still 8 minutes away so I tried to head in the general direction of the beacon while following the cave system. To my surprise the temps climbed up while underground and I didn't need to repair my suit from the cold.
I was still losing life and hazard suit energy fast though and that's when I finally noticed the toxic level on the HUD I had seen people mentioning. OK, more numbers to keep an eye on. That's fine I had a plethora mats to recharge so no big deal. An hour plus later I finally get out of the cave system and I'm still 6 minutes away from the material beacon. Damn....
So off I head above ground. I see a question mark beacon in the distance and head towards that instead. Terrain gets really craggy and sharp and it takes me a long time to cover the distance to that marker having to jet pack out of deal crevasses. The beacon is a new location and it saves my progress. Phew! I look for the material beacon I originally set out for it's still 6 minutes away?!
Break/snack time. I will reach that material beacon in my next play. I hope. But then I have to treck all the way back to my ship again. Maybe I'll get off this planet tonight, maybe I won't.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: No Man's Sky
One thing that is irking me about this game is certain waypoints disappear from my radar, or that there's no "compass."
I'll be heading toward a question mark area, then as a cute animal comes and I want to feed it or I see some Plutonium that I need, I get lost in my own footsteps and the thing doesn't pop up again.
A compass wouldn't make sense. What is really North/ South etc on alien planets?

Re: No Man's Sky
I got so far off track, my hud says my ship is 11 minutes away.
I don't even know how I walked that far from it. Last night I was scared to walk away from my ship. Today, I'm out here taking brisk mile long walks."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: No Man's Sky
Blow up asteroids to recharge your pulse engine.....sorta your light speed boosters to get where you want faster.
All I can say at this point....2 hours in is freaking wow.
Just wow. It;s pretty much exactly what I thought it would be. Massive...just massive exploration, crafting, mining and you will have hostile encounters.
I fed a species on my home world I discovered.....freaking cool.
I will playing a lot tonight (and streaming).
I see myself dumping 100's upon 100's of hours into this over the next several years exploring the galaxy.
So my home planet is named:
Armor & Sword Alpha 23
My system is called "The Barchetta System"
I am going to have a prog rock theme to naming almost everything. Rush is my favorite band and that will be one of a few bands I will use as my naming inspiration. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: No Man's Sky
2 people managed to get to the same place at the same time but weren't able to meet each other. They had different day/night cycles and whatnot. They're going to try again in a bit.

Re: No Man's Sky
So once I pop in that code for my Vector Alpha Ship...do I have to go somewhere to get it? Does my current ships inventory transfer over?
Thanks for some guidance on that.
Cooking dinner....then settling in to exploring my home planet tonight. 40% discovery already in 2 hours. I got lost in a massive cave too....took my 30 minutes to find my way out LOL.
Game is insanely cool. Took off from my planet to experience that...then went right back and landed again.
Just wow man.Now Playing on PS5:

That's exactly what I am talking about. Even gamespot seems to have been misled on this, which is fairly surprising.
