Re: No Man's Sky
But most devs don't offer demos out of fear that people will see everything there's to see in the game.
NMS is exactly like this. What you saw and did in the first 3 hours is exactly all you see and do for the next 30 or 300 hours.
The problem is that the game is as big as it is shallow.
I already know what happens when you get to the objective of the game, and IMO, it will let a lot of people (who are loving the game right now) down.
When i said i was skeptical about the game when it was first announced, i feared it would be exactly as it is now, instead of being like they alluded to before Sean Murray starter dodging questions and giving vague, ambiguous answers.
It's a shame, cause it had potential to be a lot more than thisLast edited by razorkaos; 08-13-2016, 04:05 PM.PSN ID/Street Fighter V Fighter ID: razorkaosComment

No, most devs don't offer a demo because they're a pain in the *** to develop and package. It's boring, tedious and problematic with a lot of games. It would be far easier to have someone download an entire game and then put a wrapper around it (ea access) than to put together a specialized build. For story based games, do you just create a special level without any spoilers or just let them play through an opening sequence something?
Your story isn't unlike other games. In sports games, you play that sport for hours on end. Sure there are different modes, but the core game play is the same. If you hate how the ball physics work, you're not going to enjoy the game for 30 hours after your first two. Same holds true for other action games. If the gun play sucks and is boring, you'll find out two hours in.
You don't like NMS and you would have found out two hours in. A lot of people have played it a lot longer than two hours so it's clear that, to them, the game offers more than two hours worth of unique game play.Last edited by sbauer318; 08-13-2016, 04:16 PM.Comment

If someone enjoys doing the same thing over and over again, more power to them. It's like Minecraft, to be honest. I don't like the game, but i understand why people like it.
What i meant to say with "you'll do these same things all game long" is that, for people expecting new things from the game as the time passes, it's just something they'll not see.
As I've said, if you enjoy what you're doing in the game now, and you think you'll still enjoy doing these things for the next 100 hours, I'm fine with it. But for me, its just too shallow and repetitive, even if there's a quintillion planets to visit, you'll still do exactly what you did in the first planet.
Don't get me wrong. I may not like how NMS turned out to be, but i hope those who bought it can enjoy it. Last time i bought a game that i didn't like (Final Fantasy 13), i was really pissed, it's not a good feeling, and i don't wish to see others feeling like this.PSN ID/Street Fighter V Fighter ID: razorkaosComment

This is the reason I tend to avoid OS because I read things like this and it can get in my head and make me think the same way about a game. Right now about 5 or 6 hours in I'm loving it and I very well may end up agreeing with this sentiment...I certainly am more prone to it if I read this a bit.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, no doubt, and I am not saying you shouldn't post it here or anything, I'm just saying that this is actually why I avoid game threads until I form my own opinion.
For example , I've got about 100 hours in Far Cry and I've never yet visited that thread but I'd bet if I do I'd see a lot of reasons to hate the game and may never have kept playing it if I had..

No problem. I just think that if you grow tired of a game, it's not because someone told you that it would gonna happen. Eventually everyone decides to move away from a game, but the reason is always between the player and the game.PSN ID/Street Fighter V Fighter ID: razorkaosComment

So I'm definitely not disappointed because I didn't assume things that I wanted. I got exactly what was promised.
It does seem the complaints are from people saying, "I didn't expect this" or "I didn't know what kind of game it was."
That's the gamers fault."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
