    Re: No Man's Sky

Couldn't play all weekend. Lots of things to do.

Finally played for a little bit today. Explored more of my second planet while riding on my ship.

This place is basically hell. It's just red, and sounds like lava is flowing everywhere. Some of the large plants have lava flowing inside them. I wanted to take a picture but what good will that do? You need to see it in action.

I was worried at first that caves would be flowing with lava but I don't think that's the case. Still afraid to jump into some.

This planet does have a lot of plutonium inside the caves and I found platinum which I did not see in my starter planet.

Crazy how different a feel this planet is.

Think I spent like 5 hours on my ~6th planet. Picked up a 24 slot ship for $1.5m or so, but feel like I'm ready for a break. Finally left my hazardous sentinel planet (any other planet will feel strange to not be constantly harassed... 205 sentinels died to me on that planet), warped, and got my Atlas Pass.

What helped me the most was being able to identify where they're coming from. There are some white circles that appear where the ships will warp in from. Once I realized that, it made it much easier to shoot them down before they all got positioning on me.

R1 and L1 were big helps, too. Make you turn sharper to avoid fire a little better and to get around them.

Also, focus on one ship until it's dead.

Another is use the beams. Photon cannon is OK, takes more skill to use, and is honestly more fun, but the beams wreck. Then what you can do, make sure any weapon upgrades are on your beams.

Yeah focus on one ship at a time. And agree on using the photon beam...what I do is I wreck them with the beam a lot...then switch over to the cannon to finish them off while the beam recharges. toggling is important. Also make sure whne your using the cannon your firing in the circle ahead of the ship (leading them right into the fire path).

Also doing dead stops (L2) and getting them to fly by you (Top Gun Maverick move) and then blasting them is fun.

My dog fights are getting more and more intense as I play.

Also, you can recharge your shield mid-combat, not sure if that was mentioned.

Holy Crap, have you guys read this post?

                  https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTh...es_a_big_list/

It's not just a vague "yo we got lied to" post, they actually link to every statement/promise directly while compiling a long list of things that don appear to be in the game at all or don't appear to function as shown before.

A couple of the things on the list aren't valid IMO. It has only been a week, just because someone hasn't seen an animal from the trailers yet doesn't mean it's not there. That being said, I mean, the post covers so many thing. The "Trade, Resources, and Crafting" section concerns me the most.

My opinion of the game hasn't changed. I still enjoy it the same as I enjoyed it before this read, but I now definitely understand why so many people feel lied to. I am not condemning Sean or HG, just saying, I mean, read the post. There is a lot there. It just makes me think and wonder what has been happening behind closed doors the last 6 months or so. Maybe the game needed another year of development?

I am always curious to hear what this community thinks of stuff like this as I find there is much more rationality here than elsewhere.

I don't really feel like I was lied to, and I'm glad it wasn't delayed another year. I really like the game as it is, and can't wait to see what future updates will bring.

Something happened with some of those things but that's NOT why the people that don't like this game don't like it. I'm sure they'll try to say it is but it's not.

Those are reasons for people that do enjoy it to wonder what happened to the little things that added strategy and physics to the game. It sucks a lot of that stuff is missing.

But I honestly forgot all about it when I picked it up. The only things I've noticed were the animals not being as independent or active as I thought they should be, and the planet rotations not seeming to be right (turns out they aren't rotating at all). I wonder if that's what was changed in the day 0 patch.

The only thing I can tell everyone is I'm in a solar system with probably 11-12 planets. I've discovered about 5 or 6 (can't remember). Not caring about the life forms discovery although one was off the wall.

                        Spoiler

There are planets that I've scanned that are just to far away for me to travel so my main mission at the moment is to find a bigger ship. Almost came across 2. One was wrecked on a planet but reminded me of the Apollo capsules which was much smaller than my existing ship. The other, I almost bought at the trade market with a scientist but it only had 2 more slots than mine so I refused and went about my business.

                        I need/want a bigger boat!!!!!!!

The future updates aspect address the issues I bet. I do think that Sean is a honest guy and got trapped up in saying things too early and the game changing over time.

Will be interesting to see the updates as they come.

Reading that post though, it's pretty honest and open. Not just someone trying to skewer the game, but backing up with facts? Can't really deny what he's saying. Doesn't mean the game's not fun, but showing this is a victim of E3 demo-itis.

Everyone KILLS Watch Dogs for this, so only fair other games get it as well.

They were way too open during the development process apparently, and/or the game pivoted pretty drastically on a number of fronts for a number of reasons and they did a poor job communicating that.

I'm enjoying the game, but yeah, lots wrong with that post, and hopefully they're able to end up pulling some of that off.

Had I not tried the game myself and found my own ways to enjoy it, that post would be the banner reason for not giving these guys any of my money.

The core tenants of the game really shifted to something that was very friendly but the cost was sacrificing the ability to 'just be a pirate' 'just be a trader' etc.

It seems like the game can still reach some of those though, that's key....I would agree in the communication questioning in the comments there...

Though, if they communicate clearly does that kill sales?

Hopefully they can make some killer free DLC.

I'd rather think they were afraid of losing sales than trying to rationalize it with other labels or respond because they're not nearly as nice.
