    Re: No Man's Sky

Buying ships in this game is just not good, your selections are really limited unless you want to have massive compromises (visual design instead of much larger capacity). Mining/foraging for units and buying ships is just not a long term solution, it can get you a good boost especially earlier on, but the returns on spending more money plummet fast once you get above the low 30's capacity (48 is max). So you have to find crashed ships, a single planet can easily hold a dozen crashed ships, and once you know how to look you can filter through them for 5 or 6 incremental upgrades before you repair them completely. Bring lots of heridium, you'll have to repair the launch, pulse engines, and shield systems (shields aren't required to work, but it will constantly sound that irritating alert). That's my current mission in the game, ship upgrades.

Made it all the way through the Korvax story, pretty good and hopefully I end up back in Gek and Vy'keen territories to finish up those.

I was going to actually ask if I should/could be flying from waypoint to waypoint instead of walking everywehwere. 30 suit slots, 18 slot multitool later, and I never flew my fully fueled and repaired ship once, lol. I was afraid it would auto launch me to space the first time. I would just call it to waypoints as I moved on from other areas of the starting planet.

Can you land them anywhere on the planet? Does not have to be at a waypoint correct?

I did that at first too, walked all over the place. Now, unless I am secifically mining/gathering something, I don't go too far from the ship and waypoints. Yes, you can land anywhere as long as your ship can touch solid ground without interference, so no water. I usually hold the square button when trying to land, if the initial spot isn't good it will land soon enough.

Definitely will try rebuilding the database, can't hurt.

Nice! Going to fly my ship for the first time tonight (but not leave this wretched place until I find that darn final creature, lol). Going to make me much more efficient now.

And I noticed the 'subspecies' that did not count since they are the same root name the other day as well... I got so excited, then, NOPE!

Wow you guys have over 20m? I am jealous. I maxed out my exosuit inventory which broke my bank, then I mined a crapload of gravitron cubes and emiril to get back up to 3 mil. Gonna take me forever to get that kind of fortune.

My exosuit is maxed out but my multitool is only like 19 slotted and same with my ship so I have a lot of room to upgrade there.

I see people talk about "farming" crashed ships, but I have no idea how to find them. I ran over one accidentally while exploring and that's it. I also don't know for sure which building it is that always has a multitool available to be compared. I feel like I should know these things after all my time with the game, but I am a slow learner sometimes.

Each race's buildings are different, but one will have some form of radar dish on them (Korvax is actually a radome so it looks like a big ball) and that building has a console that gives you landmarks after you solve a simple number sequence (monoliths it seems like, at least that's what they usually give me). Another building has a giant antenna on it, these will give you distress signals (crashed ships) from a console inside after a slightly harder number sequence.

I believe the crashed ship farming is from the orange beam waypoints that you use the basic card on. You can choose 4 options, one is a 'distress signal' or something like that, and it usually is always a crashed ship.

The buildings that have the multitool is the 'outpost' option on that list I believe as well (which leads to 'intelligent life'). Never read up on it, but assumed that is what people mean based on self discovery.

Been doing mainly the monoliths/ruins, but need to change it up. I think I have 60 words learned or something like that, and still barely scratch coherent sentences. They did a great job on how large in depth the languages are.

Ah, yes, this makes sense too. Maybe I am misremembering and getting the two confused (blending them together) at the moment. Will mess around when I get home from work.

The first 2 nights I played 6 hours each (time flies big time in this). The last time I played a game where I would be so absorbed and time flew was Star Wars Galaxies MMO, and Diablo 2 before that...

But on my original point, there were no errors. Played again the 3rd night, got the hard lock 1 hour in, then reset my PS4, it did the whole error check, etc.. It happened again about 2-3 hours later, but that time I let it sit and do it's own thing for the error message, then relaunched the game.

Usually doing a 'Rebuild Database' clears this up, so I did that and have not had it since, but again, it could all be sporadic and just placebo. But doing a rebuild every so often with how much this type of game fetches for files/maths would not hurt until they patch the issue.

All that depends for me and it really comes down to the type of planet I am on.

A paradise planet like I recently found (named Paradise Coronado) I walk everywhere and take in the beauty with no wildlife threats on land to speak of...and just perfect gorgeous weather. However once that Exo-Suit fills up you can't transfer to your ship which may end up being too far away. But I do walk around a lot on safer planets.

I have also walked far away on hazerdous planets with frequent solar storms etc and have had to scramble to seek shelter in caves and what not. I even hung out in an Alien Artifact to ride out a storm if I did not have enough resources to get my coolant back to levels I need to weather it.

But I will fly from point to point. However I do it leisurely when I am still in the full on exploration phase of the planet.

Some planets I have had no desire to stick around. The fact we have millions to explore allows us to be more selective of our time and how we want to play.

That to me is the games biggest strength. I am not grinding to finish....to me the game really has no end point unless you want to speed to the center if that is your goal.

My mission objectives are to play the three faction story-lines, the Atlas Path, explore planets I find highly interesting, and become a respected trader. I am really starting to get good at dog fighting. Took down 9 ships out of 15 before getting shot down last night. That was a big deal. The dog fights have been fun and are becoming more and more frequent as I carry huge payloads of Gold, Emril, Copper etc etc to the space stations to trade.

Big question is.....and I have not seen a way to do it. Can we rename our ships? I would love that ability. Hope they can patch that in if it is not in the game and I am just missing something.

                Ahhh, ok. Simple enough.

Man finding the last species on a planet is a serious chore sometimes. I spent close to 8 hours on one planet before just giving up. Considering the size of some of these planets and how some species only spawn at certain times of the day and/or at certain elevations, well, it can definitely be a pain sometimes.

Makes perfect sense, and sounds like a very similar play-style I am taking. I am in no rush to get to the center... this is a game I expect to play for quite some time, especially as they update it.

I have proton grenades on my multitool... so if I get really stuck in a heat storm on my starting planet... and not near some of the nice cave systems, I just dig a hole, and hide out to recharge the Hazard Protection, lol.

I also have an upgrade on the exosuit so the Hazard Protection lasts much longer and it is only +1.

That will be my next thing to check. Forgot all about the time of day/elevation thing.

The big solo antennas lead you to trading spots I believe, the buildings with the single landing pads. Not sure, I don't use them, I'll find plenty of that sort of thing just flying around.

The small things with the orange/red beam that you need bypass chips for, they give you four options: monolith, outpost, radio signal, shelter. Only one I ever use is monolith, so not real sure what each leads you to.

Edit: Also, on completing species lists, I find that covering a good bit of distance helps for some reason. Pop into orbit, pulse engine a few seconds across the planet (not just out from it) and then go back down. Could also hit orbit, scan, then hopefully it gives you a landmark a decent ways away from where you were and you can go there.

                      Ah yes, there it is.

I tried Radio Signal and it brought me to the crashed ships I believe. (Then again, maybe they bring me to the places you describe, then those places bring me to the ships, lol.)

Mainly used them for Monoliths myself, but I need to move on from the area because they are starting to lead me to ruins already discovered.

Outpost has brought me to 'intelligent life' those 'synthetic beings (on the starting planet), and usually there is a multitool inside more often than not and/or a trade terminal.

Never did Shelter. I assumed just the basic 2 shelter things that have money/health or tech inside. And/or suit upgrade markers.

I plasma grenades as well (love those things) never thought of just blasting a hole...good one!

I have hazard upgrades as well for both heat and cold....but I kinda role play a little and add some drama when storms come and I need shelter he he he.

Barren planets are pretty cool. I found a few lifeless planets already....but they have huge amounts for gold, aluminum, sometimes emril etc....but man they are just ugly to walk around on and quite eerie. Cool change of pace from some of the beautiful ones I have discovered.

I have also been doing some serious deep sea diving and exploring. That is tense and fun all at the same time. I had a huge predator creep up on me. I think I posted the photo of it a few pages back.....crazy stuff (edit...that was a different predator on Jurassic Gem. I found another one I need to post a pic of that was a giant shark basically). I got lost in a cave underwater for over 20 minutes....was really getting nervous...but finally found my way out LOL.

I highly recommend diving and exploring in the vast oceans on some of these planets. Really cool change of pace.

Looking forward to the next planet, hoping there is water on it. My starting has no water. Just hot, gorgeous caves, and 'squishy' patches of 'wet areas' that are basically like mud since the sound effect changes and they look like water when it does the area waypoint marker thing. Can't proton grenade in them to see if there is an underground spring unfortunately.

Quick question, when chilling in your ship on a planet, and the main center console shows planets... is that what is in your current star system?

Mine has 3, assuming the largest one in front is the one I am on since it has a similar color palette.

Quick question, when chilling in your ship on a planet, and the main center console shows planets... is that what is in your current star system?

Mine has 3, assuming the largest one in front is the one I am on since it has a similar color palette.
That is correct and their relative position to you.

Anyone play this game with the Interstellar sound track playing in the background? its legit.

Finally got my Atlas pass and man does it make warping around easym every atlas pack seems to either have a anti matter or the mats to make em, awesome!

Anyone get their Atlas Pass 2 or 3 yet?

I am on my third Atlas Waypoint now.

                              Nice! Thanks for the reply.

Glad mine seems to have 3 for my first Star System. Helps with the 'slow burn' and wanting to explore my home solar system more before I venture out to others.

Did not have a chance to play last night, but will definitely try and hunt down the final creature (give myself an hour) tonight, then finally jumping into space for the first time. Will also fly my ship looking for said creature for the first time tonight as well.

Nice man! I got like 14 star systems explored and about 2 dozen planets.

I am starting to run out of cool names.
