Looks like nobody has it right now. I guess I got lucky when I got it from Amazon a while back.

If a video game where you can explore an entire universe wasn't promising, then I might as well just quit gaming altogether right now.

          But what do you do?

Also, and I could be wrong, but pretty sure the crux of the exploration is all planet based, it's how you learn languages and talk to the aliens. The examples shown elsewhere were mostly conflict and trading. So if you just want to be a trader or pirate it's conceivable you might spend the session just flying around looking for AI to mess/trade with.

The game is planets though, everything in between playing second fiddle as best I can tell.
Wait...is that confirmed? If so that pretty dumb. If I want to excavate a planet, leave the planet for something to come back to it later it suck to have everything I have done on the planet lost.

It is the interpretation from 15:09 of this video: https://youtu.be/D-uMFHoF8VA?t=15m8s

I don't think the game is built to remember the changes n players make to n planets' geometry, but rather the seed for each planet and once you've done enough they names mapped to those seeds.

Looks like it's been more specifically stated as early as October of last year. This video covers some of the things you can change, but still a lot of uncertainty.

“Changes the player makes are saved locally,” Murray explained. “So if you start destructing the terrain, that’s saved on your own machine. And if you try and make -- what we would consider -- really significant [changes], some of those [changes] are stored on the server, along with the discoveries that you make. But in general, a lot of what you’re doing is considered insignificant. If you kill a creature, we scratch that, we save that that’s happened, but we don’t feel the need to like, kill that creature for everybody.”

Following an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Sean Murray of Hello Games co-hosted a panel with New Yorker staff writer Raffi Khatchadourian. The 90-minute panel explored the history of Hello Games, their background, design ethos, and of course, No Man’s Sky. Those hoping ...

Oh I take that as it saves what I did when I leave then stores it on the server but to improve loading it doesnt use it until I or someone else goes back to the planet. It then "regenerates" what I did to the planet when it loads up.

                      Edited to add more.

Of course it doesn't say that our locally stored changes are re-loaded when we revisit. Certainly things like cave networks aren't considered significant, he's said a number of times that the tiny holes we're drilling into these massive planets are exactly that.

What if you spend like 1000 hours completely sculpting a planet into a penis?

Some might consider that a really significant change.

So here's the deal. I'm not a smart man. I've read all this stuff posted recently and I just want to make sure I understand, so explain it to me like I'm a third grader.

Big changes, like creating a "Grand Canyon" or exterminating all life on the planet, will be saved globally and other players who visit that planet will see it.

Small changes, like killing a few things, digging some holes, will be saved locally and reset once I leave, and not apply to other players' experiences when they visit said planet.

Am I right or wrong in this assessment?

Surely if we're all going to be heading to the center of the universe, there's going to be some solar systems near the center that are going to experience heavy traffic I'd imagine.
