    Re: No Man's Sky

There's already a good amount of games that at are more or less infinite worlds and they all suffer from repeating designs, objects, etc., lack of personal touch and many other things.

I don't think this game is going to be changing the landscape of gaming much at all because it isn't introducing anything groundbreaking as is. The sheer size is amazing, but a lot of it is literally space and nothing more.

I'd love to see more games use procedural world's if they could maintain the same quality of handcrafted worlds with limited space, but I'm not sure how that would be done.

      Why not?
As morbid as this may sound - I've always wanted an assassination game kind of like hitman but where you're free to move in a small city and get contracts for certain people, but the difference from other existing games is that every single interior, room, stairs, elevator, surface etc is all in the game existing always and nothing is 'off-limits'.

so I think in the future, at least for big budget games it will be extreme detail vs sheer size.

Both have value, but I think the inbetween like gta and watchdogs loose appeal since there are so many artificial boundaries. You could shrink chicago or whatever city in those games to like 1/5 the size as far as I care and make it way more accessible.

You're right but maybe the tech can get better in time to allow for better generation.

Maybe I've missed this, but I have yet to see any of these creatures flee or investigate or attack the player. It's as if the wildlife serve as simple props designed to give the player the appearance of a new planet teeming with alien life, but having no real AI-driven awareness of the player's existence.
The developer said in an interview that they've purposely made animals non threatening in the demos in order to show the planets and not constantly get into fights.

Some of the more dramatic things are being held from the public to uphold the mystique of the title.

One of the few times I've had console envy. This looks like a really cool experience.

This is definitely intriguing. That being said, it looks like something I could easily get bored of. Combat doesn't look particularly interesting (I know that's not the focal point of the game, but still) and from what videos I've seen, the game doesn't seem to have much soul.

The pure scale of the game and the seemingly infinite possibilities are pretty incredible though.

Are you Xbox One only? It's coming to PC same day as PS4.

Yeah I don't have a capable PC. Hopefully soon for the Oculus.

I just found out about this game today and while I understand the basic aspects, exploration/survival game, is there a site or preview I can read to understand more of it? The single/multiplayer aspect? What do you do while exploring? Are there enemies? Can you run into other people on a planet?

Go back in the thread like 4 or 5 pages. I've posted a bunch of links to articles and gameplay videos.

I just can't get over the apparent scope of this game. I mean to me, this is what I always thought about when I think of a true next-gen game.
