I'm not sold on finding other people being as impossible as it's sounding, I'm gonna bet people figure out a way to meet up in the game

Will be funny if they then make it so you can't even see other players, since they expect that to be such an uncommon occurrence.

1 - Sean Murray has avoided this question for the most part. The best answer I've seen is that multiplayer interactions will be like Journey or Dark Souls. MP is not the focus of this game or so he has said. He also said there wouldn't be NPCs and now there are. MP features may be something being held back until they can implement them fully much like NPCs not being discussed until they were implemented.

2 - If you die in space, you respawn at a space station. If you die on a planet, on the planet. I remember reading that dying was going to be punished - ie lose your current ship or something similar. There are save points too - apparently something akin to a star trek transporter beam you step into to save.

2- What happens if I die? Where do you re-spawn?

I did read that we all start with a basic small ship. For us to travel to different galaxies we will need to upgrade our combat defenses, speed technology, as well as protection against all the bio-hazard conditions in space and on planets for our new ship to travel. I'm going to upgrade by purchasing the $80 retail just so I have this upgraded ship at the start.

I'm not going to worry about buyers remorse. If it doesn't fit my expectations it will be used as trade-bait for a game coming out later this year. Hype level still at 10 for me!

Will this game have multiplayer? I tried googling a bit and can't really find a concrete answer. I'm guessing they haven't released any info about multiplayer

Yes it has multiplayer, but they haven't gone into that much detail about. This may be because they want player to find out about it themselves, or don't want it to be the main focus. It should be easier to meet players the closer you are to the center. Gonna have to wait till they release more info.

                Re: No Man's Sky

Here is some additional information shared by Sean Murray reported by Dual Shockers regarding the game.

While in previous presentations Murray had to show visually impressive planets with dinosaurs, but what he really likes to show are UI screens: how you upgrade a weapon, how you upgrade your suit, how you gather resources. That’s the game to him.

When you’re playing a lot of the aesthetics melt away, and you’re more concerned about where to find plutonium or something like that.

The game is based on trading, fighting, survival and exploration. Those things feed into each other.

You can use binoculars if you have that upgrade.

Protection from extreme cold is another possible suit upgrade, but that protection will eventually wear down and then you’ll start taking damage in a cold planet.

You can create new technologies to upgrade yourself.

Exploring more allows you to survive better, as you find more technologies and resources. The longer you survive, the more you can access higher level content, like trading, which allows you to gather resources and bring them to an NPC or a space station or trading post.

There are a bunch of different races and factions. For a long time Hello Games wasn’t happy with the NPCs, so they didn’t know if they would be into the game at all. Now they feel that they make real sense within the world in their current implementation.

Aliens speak to you in their alien languages and you have to learn them. You can learn new words by chatting to them or finding relics.

The more you interact with NPCs the better standing you have with their race, as long as your behavior is positive. If you behave like a “jerk” you lower your standing with them.

The better your standing with the race is, the more options with them you open, like trading, buying ships and weapons, or even receiving things for free if they really like you.

Races have different specializations. Some are more military-focused, others have a more scientific focus and so forth. As a certain type of player you might favor certain races, and since they don’t all get along, you may have to choose who to side with. For instance, if you’re an explorer, you may want to ally yourself with a scientific race, to acquire their technology. They will also like you more by default, because exploring grants you tech, and scientific races like players that have more tech.

A lot of what they are saying sounds cool and all, but I get a feeling this may turn out to be like Spore. I hope not, but I'm definitely tempering my expectations for this one. If it does everything they say it will in a great manner, then this will be an amazing game. I just don't see them nailing everything down as great as we're expecting much like Spore.

All I'm expecting is to be able to explore endlessly. I jut want to turn on Spotify and wander the universe.

All the other "game stuff" they've added is just extra icing on the cake for me

I'm interested when people really play. This is the worry for me, that it's hyped and ends up not quite there.

I think it'll deliver, but it's a risk for sure.

The way I understand multiplayer - it's not really possible to see others.

Let's assume you need to be connected to a 'server' just like DayZ. Someone chime in if that's not a reasonable assumption. Now let's assume the server is bigger than any other before it and it can manage to have 1000 people in it. that means maybe a handful of people would even come within a solar system of someone else even if millions play the game.

If EVERYONE was playing at the same time and on the same server the chances would still be small but I could see it happening - but I just don't think that's how servers work.

I'm really tempted to jump on that deal. My only concern is whether I'll lose some satisfaction from not having built my ship up from the beginning. It's either that or I could get frustrated by the time involved with doing that and I'd probably lose interest if it feels tedious.
