Oh, and Walmart had a poster for the game up today. I thought that was pretty cool.
I am of a different mind set. I'm fine with the "Get to the Center of the Universe" being the "Story". I have been excited for this game for years since I first read about it and I am even more so now.

I am not looking for a grand epic story, or even much of a story at all. I want to be the story, if that makes sense?

Am I a struggling explorer trying to cobble together a Hyperdrive so I can leave my system? Is that Trader ship just to tasty of a target that my pirate side comes out? Do I get intrigued by my first alien contact that I drop everything and learn as much about them as I can. Is some inner turmoil just driving my to find the center of the Universe in hopes of answers. Or better yet am I all of these things at once?

That sounded impressive. Definitely more there than I thought. I'm most definitely going to end up with this.

For me that sounds fun, but then can just turn into fetch quests that end up boring...

Pre-ordered on Amazon and I get a the Alpha Vector Ship out of the gate with lasers and a hyper-drive. This game is in my wheelhouse where I create my own destiny and journey.

              Wow. This game looks incredible.

Is that the special edition with the steel book case? I see its out of stock now. I was lucky and got it last month for about $68 I believe.

Nope...I went standard for 47.99 (20% off for Prime) I just wanted that pre order bonus ship. I did not need the rest.

I had the steel book one pre-ordered then cancelled it. I just felt I did not need the other stuff. The ship upgrade was what was most important to me.

Okay, gotcha. I just figured the special edition was too good to pass up for the price. And I've never had a steel book edition game so I thought that was cool.

This is partially how I feel about the game too. I don't mind the whole "It is whatever yo make it" with this game. If there is no real "true story" that is fine by me. I play plenty of games that have zero story and are driven by the user, but my biggest fear about this game is the lack of depth.

There is quantity with this game obviously, but how deep does it go? Will I need to spend days on a planet to learn all about it or will it take 5 minutes to really see all of what it offers? When I meet aliens do they have just generic things to say to me and each other or are they truly living lives as deep as any other game out there where I can sit and live with them for weeks and still learn about them and from them?

I don't want to land on a planet, instantly know what it offers for the most part, learn an alien language and use that knowledge to read a few relics that have no real impact on the game. Maybe I am expecting too much from this game and am not as into exploring as I want to believe, but I just don't have faith that this game will be as deep as it needs to be to keep most around.

I thought the info on this write up was very good. Although exploring and survival is big part of the game play, being a smart trader and engineer is a huge part that can't be underestimated.

Interesting piece from that IGN article:

The big question on many people’s minds, the one left unanswered by virtually every trailer and even the recent round of first hands-on impressions, is this: Exactly what kind of video game lies behind No Man’s Sky’s seemingly impenetrable veneer of procedural sci-fi exploration porn? I’ve read most of these previews, and while they shed some light, they stop short of filing the experience of playing No Man’s Sky down to a point. Perhaps it’s foolish to even try, given how many different things it does, and the grand scale on which it’s trying to do them, but here’s my attempt:

No Man’s Sky is a survival game.

Yes, you can shoot stuff. You can prospect and raid for fun and profit, or make your money exploring and surveying the vast expanses of space. But survival elements like resource gathering, resource management, and crafting are the constants that bind everything together.

If you want to shoot things, you’ll need ammo, and it doesn’t come in little boxes or clips that drop off enemies. You need to harvest an element that can pass as an energy source and make it yourself. And when the things you shoot invariably start shooting back, taking hunks out of your protective energy shield, it isn’t going to magically regenerate; it’s powered by processing the silicates found in much of the space flotsam you see lying around on a planet’s surface. Finally, if you want to go jet-setting from celestial body to celestial body, you’ll need a hyperdrive made from components that don’t exactly grow on trees. You’ll be braving harsh environments or fighting dangerous foes to get them; either way you’re burning through precious resources in the process, and they'll need to be replenished.

Also, how many space exploration video games do you know can make a claim such as this?

99.9 percent of the planets in No Man's Sky will probably never be visited

I feel like this game is too good to be true. I have a hard time believing a PS4 game is that big where no one will visit 99% of the planets.

We've been waiting for game developers to take risks and go the extra mile. Everything we're hearing or seeing about this game tells us something that we haven't seen, played, or even imagined before on a gaming console. This ambition and the amount of content offered from this dev team is unmatched.

Just remember that you can say the same thing about what Peter Molyneux would sell us....not saying NMS is like that, but I'm just being cautious.
