As others have said, if this allows more polish, then this should be done with all games. Sony has been very accommodating to their developers in this regard this gen, something I wish EA, Ubisoft, and Activision would adapt to.

My backlog still thanks the delay, lol.
Great post and I agree (except for thanking the delay, lol)

As soon as people saw a ship seamlessly enter a planets orbit as well as heard the number for how many planets you can find in the game, imaginations ran wild. I don't think the devs themselves have overpromised anything, I think it is a very humble project that fans and people outside the dev studio have kind of built up to be this AAA killer app due to how cool the galaxy generating technology and base exploration mechanic sounded. I don't expect to be blown away with Mass Effedct style decision making and Witcher 3 style character lore. I expect the majority of my time in the game to be exploring new planets and harvesting materials, which is really all that the devs themselves promised (a lot of planets to explore) with the alien race and space battle stuff (basically everything they've added the last couple years) as side activities

Pretty sure you can go back to planets you've explored. But either way the game is obviously not for you, so not sure why you felt the need to come in here and bash it.

It harkens back to the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books I read as a kid. The retro art style, sense of scale, etc.. What you get out of the game, will depend a lot on your own imagination on top of the gameplay features, etc..

That is my only concern mainstream wise (for the criticisms it may get), since a lot of games are so 'hand holding' the last 15+ years, people have lost a lot of imagination, not just in gaming, but in almost all facets of life. We had to imagine and role player hard back in the Commodore 64/Atari days, lol.

          Re: No Man's Sky

I have already preordered this and I haven't been this excited about a title since the Skyrim release back on the PS3, to be honest.

The only thing I am worried about is the repetitiveness/monotony we may ensue after hours of gameplay...I'm hoping that's not the case and I am banking on this being one of the most innovative games we've seen.

As far as the delay, I am 100% ok with the extra time for polish as I agree w/ Enigma that more developers need to do this if they need be - and to be completely honest, this 'delay' only helps this game by providing more hype for a game, giving more people the opportunity to find out what this game is all about...it's not an intentional marketing tool, by any means, but if it is....

I've been thinking of ways to chronicle my adventures.

All I can gather is I don't know a damn thing. I need to get to the center.

I also assume we are placed on a planet and left with no other info.

So I'm going to approach it that way. A space Explorer (maybe?) who knows nothing. Twitter here I come.

              Re: No Man's Sky

It's definitely the gamers themselves that overhype games. I try to go into every game with low to medium expectations and hype because doing so allows me to enjoy the game more for what it is as opposed to what I want it to be.

With that said, im hoping for some Stargate type ship battles in space. Hopefully, NMS gives me my fix for that.

Is it illegal to broadcast your game on YouTube?

I tried this with Uncharted as a test to see how it sounds, looks because I'm thinking I'll broadcast and save my NMS adventures, but the next day there was a copyright claim.

I didn't look too deep into it because I didn't care. It was just a test. But found it weird.

You mean through their streaming service? It definitely should not be illegal. That's weird. I bet it was some kind of mistake.

I definitely will be streaming NMS. It seems like it will be the perfect game to stream since everyone's adventure will be different.

Wonder how clumped up the player base will be, or if starting points will be random. If it's the latter it's unlikely many of us would ever be able to reach each other or anyone we know if we're on average tens if not hundreds of thousands of stars from other players. If the entire playerbase starts from the same bubble of 1 million or so star systems and then explores from there it's a very different story though.

I'm hoping we're kind of spread out, because if we're trying to reach the "center" then there will be a massive amount of systems that we wouldn't ever see.

Say we started "north" of the center. How would people ever find their way to planets "south" of the center if we're trying to get to the center?

Hope that makes sense. This of course will also mean there are some people we will likely never see, because they'll be on a completely different end.

EDIT: This still might not matter though, because wherever I start I still won't see that other side regardless (unless I feel compelled to prior to reaching the center).

As far as speculation goes though, reaching the center probably provides us with some kind of God mode where we can traverse any planet at our very whim, and maybe even find our friends at the press of a button as well.

Or maybe the center has a perfectly scaled map of Earth, buildings and all. Probably not.

I agree....but what annoyed me a little is all the IGN exclusive info for the past 4 months it feels like....

They're pushing the game so hardcore, then say it's delayed.

It's good that they get it right, just way more media attention than other games and it's burning me out....

It was embarrassing reading those comments on the developer's delay blog.

Holy smokes people are messed up in the head.

This still remains my most anticipated game this gen, but I'm not taking vacation days and I'm not "pissed" at the developer lol They don't owe anybody anything.
