Has there, or will there be anything about this game at E3?

I don't think so, I know it's been at the last couple E3s so I figured they'd have a booth set up or something

That's a pretty big hurdle considering they won against Microsoft previously.

That would not surprise me at all. In today's society, we know the lawyers run the show.

Lol.......Sky plc is Rupert Murdoch's Europe-based broadcasting company. They're trying to copyright the word sky? Unbelievable.

What an idiotic and frivolous lawsuit. Im surprised it took 3 years to get thrown out.

They had to settle. So who knows what that means really.

The first mistake was giving the company rights to the word Sky. That should have never passed through as a trademark.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Lawyers - how can the word sky be trademarked when it already existed as a word for centuries before sky tv came along? Lawyers ruined one of my favorite sports games too, NCAA football.

So what about other games that had the word "Sky" in their title? For example: Stalker Clear Sky, Iron Sky...? What about movies - Eye in the Sky, Sky High, Vanilla Sky...? Does anyone remember any similar lawsuits before No Man's Sky?

And I agree, buying rights to a word is just ridiculous.

Why does everyone blame the lawyers. They are just doing their job. Blame the guys who paid for them or the law that allows it.

*I'm thinking people are confused about what it means to trademark a word and why it's important to do so. The article posted says Microsoft went through the same thing with OneDrive/SkyDrive.
"A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs, that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others."

Also, lawyers didn't ruin NCAA Football. If you're looking for someone to blame look in the direction of the NCAA/EA Sports. If you want people to be in your game you should pay them to do so.

*I'm not a lawyer and agree that most people in the US will not think of Sky News when they think of NMS. I think this may be different in the UK. Just wanted to try to help a few people understand what is an understandably complicated legal situation.

We understand. The point is the word should have never been allowed to be trademarked for the company name.

Having gone through trademark nonsense, it's crazy it was allowed because of situations like this likely coming up.
