The impression I got back in the day was the purpose of exploration is to basically find clues as to where the "center" is and otherwise, without those clues, you're basically just going blind, wandering without a compass. Communicating with alien races and learning about what happened on inhabited planets helps you figure out where to go next trying to find the "center" or "where it all began." The resources you collect help your ship keep running and I think upgrading allows you to go deeper snd deeper

Again I'm mostly going off of videos and interviews I saw a long time ago, I haven't watched a lot of recent stuff

I'm confused as well, as the devs seem to be purposefully coy and mysterious
This is what I'm hoping the answer was. Makes me hope that the game doesn't have like a "story," but that we all have the same center we can get to all the same.

      Interesting wording

One part mentions finding the "center of the galaxy" another part mentions multiple "solar systems."

Is "galaxy" basically just the word their using in place "universe?"

Is there such thing as a galaxy with multiple solar systems?

Yeah, galaxy is their universe, every star seems to be a solar system (have they said otherwise?), etc.

Don't think there are multiple galaxies, the entire universe looks like a massive nebula in every map we've been shown, with the 'center' being a vague bright spot in the distance.

Galaxies have billions of stars. And among those stars many have planets (solar systems)

Yeah I feel dumb. I think I was mixing up stars with galaxies when guy was exploring in the old video I saw.

So yeah I really don't kno anything about how this game works for sure.

And if you want your mind blown, scientists think there are over 40 BILLION Earth like planets in our galaxy alone. And there are over 200 billion galaxies in the universe. That we know of.

I don't know maybe I am just wanting something different from some of you guys.

I am not looking for more realism here. I want just a "simple" exploration/adventure game. By simple I mean story and plot wise. I really would like a game that is just fun and exciting, maybe even boring sometimes with cool things to discover. There are plenty of games out there that are super realistic and super deep. I would like a game where my course of action does not need to lead to the saving of the Universe or the redemption of the human race. I am not looking for a GTA in space or the next Mass Effect. I have Mass Effect for that.

I want to hop in my ship fly around, explore, collect, construct, modify and fly around some more. Maybe get into a scrape of two but I don't need some grand conflict. Sure a planet that is 700 Celsius should be a ball of flame, I guess, but I also don't care. I upgrade my suit and I can walk on the planet? Great, I'm good with that. I just want a game that is fun to play and I can just make out if it what I want it to be.

This all day for me. I want some realism, of course, but I'm good with a few shortcuts being taken to make things fun.

Edit: If things are as big as they say and running into other human players is so rare, I want to not just feel bored once in a while (obviously not a LOT!) but feel the loneliness of being a solo explorer in space.

Crazy how there's this much info/buzz going on and it's not out until June....sometimes its good, sometimes it's bad (can be better to just let people wait until it comes out without burning out due to hype)

I don't care too much for saving the world, er I guess universe, but I just wish it was more alive than we've been told so far. I'd be fine if there was no end game, you just explore and let the AI live and do their thing and you make it what you want.

What is this guy talking about in the first paragraph of that spoiler?

That doesn't make any sense. It is implied that we can travel outside of the earths orbit. Don't see how he sees that as not realistic.

I don't think that's the realism that people have been talking about.

I'm also pretty sure I've seen more to the planets than just different colors of the same animals, or environment.

Bullit's post is spot on for how I feel.

Somehow I have been living under a rock and am just now starting to read up on this. But I will definitely be checking it out. I love the idea behind the open world and freedom and to the degree they are shooting for. I can certainly understand some of the doubts and hesitation but if this game even lives up to half of what they are saying it has the potential to be something special.
