Re: No Man's Sky
One has to wonder if the reason Murray didn't come out sooner about this situation that they were scrambling to make sure they had all their legal bases covered.
He did say they don't even use the superformula. Which is interesting since he mentioned a year ago they were using it.
Either way, I'm just glad that this is finally happening.
I went to Gamestop today for something totally unrelated and asked if they've gotten their copies of NMS yet and the guy smiled at me then said I can't reveal that information. Then of course he tried to get me to preorder 34 different games.Comment

I'm guessing they looked at the superformula and made their own version for their own purposes. It's interesting, are Gielis' patents tied to that exact formula, or are the formulas given more examples? Similar for other formula based patents, how different does something need to be before it's unique and no longer an infringement?Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
Should have told the Gamestop employee you would preorder anything he wanted if he "lost" one of those copies and you found it.

Genicap's claims were a long shot at best.
EDIT: Someone found a sound byte from Murray saying while he tried the superformula, he decided against using it because it created a lot of weird stuff or something like that.Last edited by PVarck31; 07-23-2016, 07:59 PM.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
The game is apparently playable at a Japanese Playstation event. The subreddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/ has a bunch of cell phone pics and videos from the retail game.
Obvious spoilers if you check it out.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
Its been a really bad day as I lost my cat of 14 years today. But I am trying to have positive thoughts and that keeps leading me to this game. Is that crazy? I feel like it's kinda crazy. But anyway..
I'm wondering how you feel about this game. Like what is it that draws you to it? For me, it's the wonders of space and exploration of the universe. Ever since I was a kid I loved space. I remember when I was about 8-10 years old my dad bought me a pretty nice telescope. We would look at Saturn and see the rings. We would look at Jupiter and see some of its moons. I was hooked on it.
As I grew up I kinda got away from it, but then I started getting back into astronomy in college after take an astronomy class. I think I'm a little obsessed. I constantly read about the universe. Recent discoveries, potential life, I wonder what's out there a lot. I watch all the tv shows about space too.
So when I heard about this game I thought wow, this could be everything I've always wanted. I get to explore an endless universe. I hope it lives up to my hype. I'm literally counting the hours now. lol
Sorry for the long post. Just can't sleep tonight.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
Sorry for your loss PV.
I'm the same way about the game and as far as what draws me in about it. I grew up in the Space and Rocket capital of the world. Space has always been a part of my family. My grandfather went to work for NASA after the war and was involved with the Mercury program and later the Gemini program. My mother worked with Von Braun for many years and always had good stories for my brother and I. I was lucky enough to go to Space Camp twice while growing up. I wasn't smart enough to be an astronaut lol, but it was something I always wanted to be growing up.
