Sounds like the patch mostly just reduced frequency of checkpoints which caused some of the frame rate issues, but didn't eliminate it. I'd likely still wait for a 1.05 or later before diving in. If you have other things to do, might as well wait for a patch to drop that eliminates the stutter (coincidentally, the price will continue to drop).

The game is 40 bucks new, or for Power Up members you can get it for 31 bucks used at GameStop now.
