    Re: Cities: Skylines

Picked this up and played around with it a while last night, getting up to a small town of around 1500. Tried to load up my save and everything on the map had disappeared. Fortunately I had some rolling saves so I was able to load a different file with about 400 less people. The first save was a cloud save, so be wary about using that.

Love playing around with the free-form roads. I'm more about creating aesthetically-pleasing towns and neigborhoods than huge grids - that's part of why I can still enjoy playing SimCity too.

Would like to see some elevation changes too - are all the presets pretty flat and that's something I'd have to do with the map editor?

No traffic problems so far, but again the town's pretty small. I'm starting to get services put in now.

Yeah you can change it with the map editor to make the maps not so flat. This game is really addictive, I just have to stick with 1 city. Last night I ran another test city and the problem I ran into was running out of power. And the down side was the map I was using had VERY LITTLE wind.

One thing for sure, time flies when playing this game. Early this morning I said I wanted to play just for 20 minutes to test some things, looked at the clock, 45 minutes had passed LOL. I do love the elevated roads and trains you can build. Only thing that kind of weird about this game is that crime is pretty low and that you can't manually upgrade police stations and fire stations. I would rather add more cars or fire trucks to a particular station then having to build multiple ones like you have to do in this game.

please explain, I have not discovered this feature.

I believe you can add police cars/fire trucks at your stations by increasing the corresponding budget, although it distributes them evenly across all your stations - there's no way to have extra police cruisers at one station versus another.

Question - are you guaranteed a body of water in every pre-made starting landmass you get? Because waste water dumping seems like a basic requirement and you couldn't do that without a source for the water pump?

Basically what I'm asking is that you can't get a city going with just a water tower like you could in SC?

Yes, every map must have a body of water on it.

I need to plan out my power and water routes better. I feel like I have way too many power poles sometimes. How close does it have to be to a properly to provide power and can one power pole provide power for more than one business ? Wish I could just run my electricity underground.

I tried creating a city on the beach, but construction cost for initial roadwork is pricy and the sewage has to run a long way, which also costs a decent amount of money.

Within the blue outline of said building. Power spreads automatically from building to building that are next to each other. So really you only need a line to one part of the map and power will just spread automatically along all buildings if they are close to each other.

Yeah, I plan on redoing my power grid to be a bit more pleasant looking now that I'm up and running. Kinda hard to make it look nice when I was just struggling to stay in the green.

I used a lot of my map even in the beginning in order to keep industry far away from residential, and for a while I thought I was a little too ambitious. Love the way it's looking now though - I'll get some screens up at some point.

Slowly starting to figure this game out and it's becoming quite fun and time consuming. I caught myself watching firefighters respond to a house fire tonight.

Click on a bus with no tool selected and hit the "Edit" button in the call-out. You'll be presented with bus line name and color options (and an option to delete the route so be careful haha).

You can also customize underground metro and above-ground passenger rail routes the same way, though the procedure is has one more step - you click on any of the routes while viewing your city through the mass transit view (the bus icon on the collapsable far left panel).

I downloaded the ammu-nation building and those have begun popping up in my city.
