Thanks man, cause I was enjoying the game. Guess I don't have the same patience as when I was younger.

and then it's just SO MUCH repetitiveness I put it down and now haven't played in a couple of months. To me, it just didn't capture the magic of Mafia II.

Didn't know if I should spoiler something so minor, but I guess better safe than sorry.

First, there's SO MUCH repetitiveness is EVERY open world game. MGSV, Fallout 4, Batman AK, The Witcher III, FFXV, etc. Seriously, they all have the same problem in this regard. None of them are perfect. They all have their strong area with the rest being weak, average or solid.

Second, I enjoyed the area that's in your spoiler. There's a lot of good set piece areas in the game.

Third, you have to be invested in the story and Lincoln. I was easily. The story also gets deeper a little further along as there's more to it than what's on the surface.

I can understand the repetitiveness as I get it but it's in every damn game. Exactly what I would do in reality if I wasn't just going to go for the main number one target.

You guys can skip some stuff if you want. I completed and enjoyed everything but in fairness, im way more favored towards open world games than linear especially if they follow the Ubisoft formula.

Mafia II was a solid 7/10 for me back years ago but Mafia III surpasses it in nearly every way. Only area it doesn't is in the enemy AI but it's open world so I can understand it as most open world games have the same problem/flaw/negative.

Also, if you've been playing other open world games, that would probably have a negative affect on this game for you. I was coming off five or so linear games in a row so this was exactly what I needed. It was between this and Watch Dogs 2 and as everyone here knows, I love Ubisoft but went with Mafia III. Haven't played much of Watch Dogs 2 but from what I have played, read, seen and heard, I don't even think that it will surpass the original for me so that was also why I went with Mafia III.

I'm also excited for the expansions in Mafia III. Easily underrated game in my opinion and gets crapped on for the same reasons other games get a free pass on. Makes no sense to me.

Obviously, up to you if you want to finish the game or not but at the very least, should just finish the story because it's real good and in my opinion, should have won story and characters awards in 2016.

But the AI weaknesses in this game are much worse than most open world games.

Still a fun game, but everything in between the good story feels like a chore more than a challenge because of this.

Worse? Yes. Much worse? That's debatable. Playing on hard, the AI is still bad but they do take more damage to kill sometimes and they dish out more damage. To me, that kind of makes up for it. As for being a chore, the only thing that irked me was getting the electronic parts as I collected them all just because im a 100% complete gamer. That would be one of my pet peeves in every open world game...stuff like that always ends up being too much where it should even out with what you need them for.

But what can I say? I fully enjoyed the game so much that it's my 2016 game of the year.

Throwing more enemies at you or upping their stats doesn't fix bad AI. Once you figure this game out it becomes incredibly easy which is sad because there are some very good things about it.

True but this can be said about every game. Once you learn enemy patterns and whatnot, anyone if good enough can make the AI look bad or worse.

I don't want to compare it to other games because it needs to stand on its own first - which it doesn't.

You get behind cover and pick off one guy at a time. Sometimes two guys flank together. There is no coherent strategy in how the AI reacts to a one-man army coming through their door.

This type of AI was OK on the PS2, but there needed to be more variation to their patrols both before and after being alerted of Clay's presence.

I rented this but the game keeps freezing my ps4. I downloaded the patches but it will get stuck loading after a death. When it freezes i cant even close out the game, or turn off my ps4. I had to keep unplugging my ps4 from the plug outlet. When i did get a chance to play i fell through the map and was floating around. I am just going to watch the cut scenes on youtube as a movie. I never had any game act up as bad as this one.

Where did you rent from? If it's GameFly, I have had three disc problems in which I had to file a complaint as it being defective. None of the three were Mafia III though.

Delete the saved game data and then uninstall the game. Reinstall the game without being connected online. Once done, download the patch/update. After that, go to the title screen and let it fully install the game before playing. See if that works.

I rented it from redbox. The back of the disc looks clear like a new game. I decided to watch the cut scenes to see how the story turns out.

I respectfully disagree, the repetitiveness in this game is worse then any game I can recall and stating that all open world games suffer from this isn't completely true either. I never once had this feeling when I played GTA for instance and it's clearly open world as well. Not only was this game repetitive you'd clear out the rackets, go back to take out the boss and end up going right back to a location you were already at, as if they ran out of resources and thus had to recycle one location in each district and that doesn't help with the feeling of repetitiveness at all.

The enemy AI is also worse then most games I've played. There is really no strategy to sitting back and whistling while one guy after another slowly trots over so you can perform a stealth takedown then rinse and repeat.

As for the collectibles, they were completely pointless. In the beginning I collected everything I could find until I unlocked some perk that allowed me to see all enemies on screen etc without needing to do the junction boxes anymore, from that point on I scratched collecting anything unless I just stumbled across it during a mission, ie. Vargas paintings in a warehouse that I was taking over. There were no trophies for it, none of it tied into the story outside of the junction boxes and even that was short lived as well.

The only reason I finished the game was due to the story, some trophies were glitched, pop in was really bad to the point I'd have cars suddenly appear in front of me when driving on the highway, enemy AI was poor, collectibles were all but pointless, a couple times I parked my car, saved and my car had somehow sunk into the concrete and it couldn't be moved forcing me to ditch the car entirely.

I love mob games and movies which is why I stuck it out but imo this game was just not that good in nearly every aspect outside of the story itself.
