I'm a sucker. I'll be pre-ordering for the Special Edition. Just a tribute to the great work anticipated from a respected developer. I'll admit it. They have me.

No different for me with Undead Labs and the State of Decay series. I bought the Ultimate Edition of State of Decay 2 only partially to be able to play it four days early, but mainly as a show of support and tribute to Undead Labs, especially considering they were releasing SoD2 for only $30. Even paying $50 for the Ultimate Edition, I was still paying less than regular full price for a new game. I won't think twice about spending extra on a higher price edition of a game for developers that I respect and for game series that I love. I won't do it for every game or developer, but there are a couple that I won't hesitate to buy an Ultimate Edition or something.

Exactly. This is Rockstar. Their track record gets my money. And last I cheked there was still 3 different versions including the $59.99 like most games. Hell, I would pay $200 for the standard version if that was the going rate. Again....for THIS game THIS company.

Yep, between RDR, the GTA series and Bully, Rockstar has had a great track record for me. They've earned my faith in them to where I have no issue at all pre-ordering RDR2 and getting one of the special editions.

Like you said, THIS game THIS company. Few companies and games have achieved my blind faith in them, but Rockstar is one of them.

            Re: Red Dead Redemption 2

I used to be a Rockstar fanboy, but then GTA V happened so I don't know what to expect from the game. The single player of GTA V was lacking compared to San Andreas, but an upgrade over IV. The online part of the game, was fun at times, I did drop serious hours into it, but what it has become and what Rockstar has done.... I'm not a fan of it.

Hopefully this game has a long story to it and much to do in single player. That's my biggest complaints about V. It's story is so short, 61 missions I think, close to it at least, and a good portion of those are 45 second tasks to prep for a heist. RDR was much like GTA SA for me where it took me 50+ hours to beat because the story was long and there was a lot to do. Hopefully the sequel can match that.

Did any trailers come out of MS's show yesterday? Any chance Sony might show something tonight?

I'm in the same boat. GTA Online made me push Rockstar aside. If they would have still released the single player additions for GTA V, I probably wouldn't have cared as much, but they took the easy cash out. From the business side, I understand, but from the consumer standpoint, I didn't like it. For me personally, they need to re-earn that trust.

We'll see how RDR2 shakes out. I'm somewhat cynical about it, though, so I'm going to stay away from it for a little while.

I'm definitely not the biggest GTA 5 fan but it has 79 story missions. Even if it was only 61 or if RDR 2 is only 61, that's still more than double the story missions of AC Origins, Horizon Zero Dawn and several other games. A last gen game having more story missions than a current gen game is embarrassing to say the least. I haven't been a hardcore Rockstar fan since PS2 but story wise, their games are great and better than the majority out there.

It's not embarrassing at all. Maybe it's more expensive to make games compared to then and maybe companies don't want to overspend. Also it takes longer to make games. For example last gen we had 3 uncharted games. This gen we only have Uncharted 4.

How many of those 79 "story" missions are of any real consequence? I finished both AC Origins and Horizon - both of which are fantastic games with rich open worlds and a cast of memorable characters (Horizon's story is clearly the better of the two), but struggled to get more than half way on both the last gen and current gen versions of GTAV.
